  1. ...one reason I don't tend to watch sport on TV.
  2. I had the chance to go to Sunderland in 1973 but my relations weren't speedway orientated! I have since passed the stadium on a couple of occasions when passing by.
  3. It's a while since I saw the DVD but I think it may well be featured on the DVD covering the 1970's World Finals released by retro-speedway?
  4. ...and further down the leagues Oxford Utd's original Manor Ground when they transferred to the soulless Kassam Stadium to which there are plans apparently to re-locate near to Kidlington?
  5. I can somewhat equate with that and I occasionally dip in and out of "televised" races (although I have never subscribed to any "pay" channels") but I always prefered watching racing "live" and the banter one could have with regular collleagues on the terraces and the general atmosphere that creates. Even during the heady days of "World of Sport" (which I viewed religiously) it never replaced actually being present and all that entails. On a seperate issue I tend to avoid watching sport on TV because of all the hype, over analysis with all those studio "experts" and screaming commentators.
  6. ...if I still lived in Oxford (Littlemore) I would certainly attend but I won't travel 60 plus miles to attend a meeting personally for reasons I have given previously.
  7. The last time I saw Sandor ride was in the snow at Cowley in 1975 when the Cradley team withdrew from the meeting which resulted in a 58-14 for the "Rebels". From that day Cradley's John Boulger was christened by the Oxford faithful as "Snowflake".
  8. Particularly enjoyed reading about the Czech Golden Helmet...didn't realise the backgound to it before now.
  9. I've said it many times but I would expect more than just fifteen heats of racing after paying my admission price and petrol to travel to my local track some 60 plus miles away irrspective of the expected rise in the cost of living.
  10. Remember the race well (I was there). As the tapes rose Neil steared slightly into Erik's lane and Gundersen hesitated and the race was lost.
  11. One of my eternal regrets was selling all my programes...such memories held within them. I used to place comments in them covering each race.
  12. Apparently Hans Nielsen will be making an appearance? Will certainly help raise the profile of the sport returning to Cowley.
  13. ...a school friend of my mother married Gordon McGregor.
  14. An article on Sandor will prove very interesting and can't wait to read it...my last memory of him was riding in the snow at Cowley for Cradley before the "Heathens" withdrew from the meeting gifting Oxford a 58-14 win! John Boulger was thereafter christened by the Oxford faithful as "Snowflake!"
  15. Vaguely remember him riding for Eastbourne when the promotion seemed intent signing relatively unknown foreigners.
  16. Another very excellent read...particularly enjoyed the interview with Eric Boocock.
  17. I think I'm right in that Dag Lovaas said he would make a return trip if speedway ever returned to Cowley?
  18. Wouldn't be greatt if Hans Nielsen was able to attend the grand re-opening meeting?
  19. Also looked like a Wolf's Head? Not sure if that intentional!?
  20. As a matter of interest were they "Briggo" or "Daytona" branded boots? I know that Ole Olsen produced a style of boot but they were very different I recall.
  21. Mike Broadbank(s) didn't have the most conventional style!
