A great time was had by all I'm sure!
-
What was Lee Kilby's role at Swindon as a matter of interest?
-
Yes of course that's been their "story" all along but don't hold your breath!
-
I've just located it on the relevant Gov.UK site and it's still active apparently.
-
Slightly off tangent but whilst on the NYMR last week I spoke to a passenger who was from Hoddesdon and was very aware of Rye House and the present situation and on discussion found out that his great Uncle is Clive Hitch (who is still with us) and son Martin who both rode speedway...I remember watching Clive when riding for the "Robins".
-
It was/is a perculiar one "on ice". I know that Reading's was put "on ice" during the development of Smallmead and I believe the same applied to King's Lynn when "Buster" Chapman (remember him as a novice riding for Oxford!) was negotiating the purchase of Saddlebow Road? Oxford purchased Hackney's licence when they re-entered the British League in 1984...would be interested to learn the situation regarding Swindon's licence and who actually owns it?
-
In the past licences were put "on ice" but I believe that was at the discretion of the relevant "authority"?

That's got to be worth a bid? -
R.I.P. John Hyam/Gustix/Speedyguy/Jack Keen

May you rest in peace John. -
I don't think there is a connection?
-
Totally agree! He quotes total rubbish and anyone knowing his history will realise.
-
Ditto.
-
He can quote whatever rhetoric he feels appropriate but still doesn't hide the fact the good folk of Swindon were told a pack of lies for a number of years now with false promises.
-
That's sad to read...remember when he rode for the "Cheetahs" in 1976. A great friend of Jack Millen now together again in that great track in the sky. RIP
-
Sad news indeed. A great servant to the sport. RIP

Although not my favourite track the "Cheetahs" had some memorable meetings there and Momore Green will be a sad loss. -

Who COULD Have Been a Major Force in World Speedway?

Remember Dag's sublime 15 point maximum in absymal conditions during Mike Keen's Testimonial Meeting at Swindon in 1976. Dag achieved his desired move to Cowley in 1975 and then had it taken from him due to the enforced move of the "Rebels" to Wood Lane where he never really settled. He remained faithful to the JAP engine which didn't really suit the wide open spaces at White City. -
I would have thought that someone would have given Conny another chance as he did show some pretty good performances away from Cowley but perhaps it was his own decision to give the UK a miss?

His priorties were Grasstrack and Longtrack....should have achieved more in speedway (altough his record was impressive) if he had applied more in my opinion. I saw him during his hey-day riding for the "Cheetahs" and he proved to be both inspirational and frustrating at times. Hans always said that Wiggy was forever tinkering with his bikes even when they were going well which cost him points. -

I first saw Toni ride for Hackney at Swindon during his first season here and looked very impressive. Alas no longer with us. -

If the 1980 World Championship had been run on GP lines he may well have been champion rather than Michael Lee? DJ dominated the qualifying rounds if I recall? -
I think I'm correct in that Dean Barker was once Charlotte's partner?

Simmo summed him up in his book...DJ would cut corners to save money and it proved costly more than once.
