Again I haven't seen any unless you count one of the LADA Wembley Indoor Meetings where I think a woman rode but can't recall a name (Bobbi something?)
-
Dag & Ulf Lovaas, Svein Kaasa, Helge Langli, Odd Fossengen, Reidar Eide, Tom Godal (because he wore Dag's discarded leathers!!), Oyvind S.Berg. Einar Kylingstad (for that brilliant 15 point maximum at Swindon!)
-
I think that I only saw two Canadians ride - Mark Conroy (?) for Weymouth ans Shawn Venebles.
-
Cieslak, Jurzynski, Plech, Jancarz, Jankowski, Mucha, Walosek, Szczakiel (actually saw him ride at Cowley...well as far as the first bend!), Gollob, Woryna.
-
...what basically finished Bobby was witnessing the terrible crash at Hackney that left Vic Harding dead and Steve Weatherley paralysed. He has admitted since that he took it hard.
-
...unfortunately Bobby was another who got away from us. Again a regular second-halver (great days those at Cowley) but he rode for Reading during their championship winning year (1973) snd when they closed returned to Oxford in 1974 (doubling up with 'The Eagles' - perhaps one season too many?) When he eventually moved up appeared down the rode at Swindon.
-
I don't recall having ever seen one?
-
Having watched Roger ride for Eastbourne and a regular second-halver and occasional team member at Cowley (due to our promotional tie up) he slipped the net and when he eventually moved up ended up at Plough Lane where he gave sterling service over many years. Speedway can only exist with riders such as Roger and the 'Bernie Leighs' of this world.
-
Yes I'm only including riders I have seen ride and unfortunately Pander was before my time although when mum worked at the local health centre she recalls that he was a regular visitor!
-
H.Nielsen, J.Rasmussen, Sorensen, B.Petersen, J.O.Pedersen, Rosenkilde...no way Olsen would get on any favourite list of mine!
-
Holmqvist, T.Jansson, C.Lofqvist, Michanek, B.Jansson, Hellsen, T.Johansson, S.Sjosten, Nygren, Dalle Andersson.
-
McKinlay, McMillan, B.Beaton, Harkins, Hunter, MacLean, K.McKinna, Lamb, Gould, C.Caffrey.
-
I certainly wouldn't invest my money (if I had any!) in a speedway promotion. The days of profits generated has long past us by.
-
I base this one on English and impossibe to call but here goes...different list tomorrow! G.Kennett, Betts, Ashby, Wigg, Dugard...actually I give up! Impossible too many to call and can't decide!
-
Really difficult this one and I have to include Sprouts Elder for his name if nothing else! Based on riders I have seen: Autrey, Kelly & Shawn Moran, Preston, Caruso, Schwartz, Penhall, McKnight, Cook...and dare I say Gresham although he used to annoy the hell out of me!
-
Difficult but based on riders I have seen: Middleton, Crump, Sanders, Butler, Titman, Carlson, Curtis, Airey, Cameron, Valentine.
-
These lists are very difficult...ask me tomorrow and I'd probably come up with a different list. Based on riders I have seen: Mauger, Moore, Briggs, Timmo, Millen, Cribb, Ross, Stapleton, Wells, Brown.

Thank you to the BSPA

Makes one wonder why there is a Colour Marshall on duty or is there no longer such an official in the pits? -
Saw Colin as a 15 year old riding during the interval at Cowley in 1974. A match/exhibition race was put on between him and another 15 year old a certain Michael Lee and Colin was the victor. 1977 was Colin's year and he was another who didn't fulfill his undoubted potential (in my opinion) in the higher sphere of racing although he had a couple of initial useful seasons at Plough Lane before injury slowed him down and after moving to King's Lynn he eventually ended up back at Arlington.

I would have thought, and I'm no expert, that getting the base right was the most important factor. We all remember the nonsense that was Bristol and I recall that when Peterborough's track was first laid they dug down a number of feet to lay a decent foundation so as the track wouldn't cut up and also drain satisfactorily.
-
I seem to recall that Romford's track was laid within a week (?) however the Swindon debacle seems to go and on!

I viewed his grave a couple of years ago. -

...I recall that there was talk that he may have have joined Halifax prior to Cradley stepping in. Can you imagine a team tracking Penhall & Carter together in the same team! -
Rosco was always a bit of a scatterbrain as a rider!
