  1. Hasse Holmkvist and Hasse Holmqvist.
  2. Superb race again...speedway at its very best! This is the best thread by far on the BSF!
  3. Brilliant ride by John Cook...often overlooked but was as exciting as anyone before or since in his prime.
  4. I have no technical/mechanical expertise but it may have someting to do with differing tyre widths and/or compounds/up right compared to lay down engines etc? Interesting observation all the same.
  5. A great stylist but never fullfilled his true potential in my view allowing his off-track antics to get in the way.
  6. ...and yet another great race! Different era but just as spectacular.
  7. was his real name something Humphreys?
  8. Another great race! Shame about his tarnished image but I guess he's not the only one and no doubt the last.
  9. One of the reasons why I was never a fan of Play-Offs deciding who ends up as Champions.
  10. I'm the first to admit that there is a lot of dull stuff but when one witneses a race of the calibre one has seen on this thread it emphasises that there is no sport like speedway when conditions are right...whatever the era.
  11. Best thread on the BSF in my opinion with all this doom and gloom surrounding us! Keep them coming!
  12. I agree that Billy was the better rider on the international stage (Individual & Pairs) but rated Phil the better of the two at domestic level. Never saw Doyle or Holder ride and unfortunately I am only aware of Ward's off track 'activities'.
  13. A rider I would have much liked to have seen. Ivan Mauger gave him great credit as regards the help and advice he received from him when he based himself in Australia after his first attempt establishing himself in Britain was aborted.
  14. Attended said meeting and witnessed White City's Gordon Kennett sneak thru' to his one and only World Final and going on and very nearly winning it (which I missed due to a pre-booked holiday to Jersey as my brother keeps reminding me!!)
  15. Peter Collins could quite easily have won three titles on the trot if some idiot hadn't let loose with the hose pipe in 1975 and his cruel injury picked up just prior to the 1977 Final. We would now be contemplating Peter being perhaps England's greatest rider? Funny how fate can turn a cruel hand!
  16. ...and Sunderland came along and stuffed them in 1973 FA Cup Final! Yes I would agree that Leeds were packed full of talent unfortunately they often resorted to dirty tactics when on the pitch which was to their detriment.. Interesting reading Brian Clough's book and how he despised them (especially Don Revie) but ended up managing them albeit for a short while and walked away with a big fat cheque!
