World Championship Ice Racing R3 & 4
Wolfslayer replied to Conkers's topic in International World of Speedway
Don't worry Jamie I too have felt like s**t since I got back Monday, but I've had to go into the school where I work. It wouldn't half look bad that I'm off for a weekend in Berlin after a weekend in the Netherlands, and I go Pat&Mick with a cold. Mind you if all the kids have the flu next week...... (Note to Iris123 & Wolfslayer and chums: I might be on the shorts to cure my cold this weekend ) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> First rounds on you then mate!!!!!! -
Ross,Kelvin finished 3rd in the '86 World Final. You remember Heat 15 don't you? When Hans Nielsen put Tommy Knudsen into the fence,Tommy's bike bouncing back & hitting Armando Castagna in the right leg? I think that left Armando with a broken leg,not sure.Sam Ermolenko finished 3rd in '87 after being beaten by Erik Gundersen in a run off for 2nd & 3rd place. Whilst we're down memory lane & the Heat 15's with Tommy & what a strong side the Bees had, they couldn't pull off the Leauge & KO Cup double in '87 & '88 though could they.

Thanks for that iris123. Makes sense as he's not long back from injury.
-
Anybody know what happened to Bulankin in his last ride?. Good to see Bauer ,Aakko & Zorn giving the Russians a run for the money. With Posa & Klatovsky in there too,it's looking to be a strong line-up for the GP series.
-
Conkers! How you doin'?Icanicant & myself were on about that the other night in the pub.The hotel were we're staying is not too far from the stadium & from what Icanicant tells me,the hotel is above a beer keller. We'll have to sort something out.Back to this weekend,if all goes well & Franky does the business, hopefully the Russian round will be kinder to him.

Ice Racing: Finnish Open Championship
Wolfslayer replied to f-s-p's topic in International World of Speedway
Didn't he tune Jarmo Hirvasoya's bike the year he was World Champion? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi Conkers, I don't know if he did Jarmo's bike, although i wouldn't be surprised.I know he did Erik Stenlund's when he raced. -
Whilst I don't disagree with you GSF - it has to be said that Franky has only finished second in one race this year - the rest he has won. I don't think Robert Eibl was winning as many as Franky this time last year. I must admit that having seen Eibl over the last few years he has the attitude and the ability to go far as long as he doesn't fall to any serious injury. As for the Rusians, it looks like the young guns are certainly up for it this year with Krasnikov, the Khomisewichs and the Ivanovs all showing well in the Russian Final. I can't wait for the World Championship to start! I spoke to Thomas Schifner who was the TV Screening Rights Holder to the Ice Racing Series last year at Assen. He can only get it televised if Eurosport commission him to record the meetings. It is too expensive for him to go out , hire a TV Crew and then try and "cold call" TV Companies. Especially as he would have to do the whole series. Generally, broadcasters won't commission but express an interest if he came to them with a ready made programme. But without the money from a commission, he can't afford to hire a TV Crew - Chicken and Egg situation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thanks Conkers, I would hate to think what it would cost to film the whole series funded out of your own pocket. Looking at the way the season as started,we're in for a treat this year.Sad to see Sasha Balashov out though.
-
I spoke to Franky in Assen last season & he told me that he would have to work for two weeks solid to pay for the motors that blew up in Russia. It's a pity that the sport can't get any TV coverage like it had 15 years ago when Screensport covered it.Maybe then more sponsorship could come in for the riders, then they may get the true recognition they deserve. When you think what a football player earns for booting a bag of wind up & down a field for 90 mins,i'm sorry but in my opinion, ice racer's are more talented & professional!!!!!!!

Sasha took part in a 2 day meeting at Blagoweschtschenk the other weekend. He finished 5th on Day 1 with 10 points & scored a 15 point maximum on Day 2.If you go to page 2 of the International World of Speedway, Iris 123 has posted some results. Icanicant,i think if Sasha had the backing that he had before, with some good bike's,i think he'd go out & show them why he became a three times world champion, but remember this,it's not the size of the dog that fight's,but the size of the fight in the dog!!! Let's hope Franky Zorn has a better season!
-
Thanks Conkers, i had read that Stefan Svensson had quit the World Championship.I belive that Posa has been training with the Blue Beru Team so fingers crossed,he might be out there.....stranger things have happened.

The website address for Inzell is-www.dmv-lg-suedbayern.de When on the homepage just click on eisspeedway.I think your right about the Russians Conkers, the only thing they've got to worry about over the next 20 years is who's goning to be world champion for that year.As for Berlin, too close to call..........i wish i was going though -
Icespeedway Assen - Day 2
Wolfslayer replied to German Speedway Fan's topic in International World of Speedway
Hi Conkers,it was good to meet up with you & i hope you got some good photos on Sunday.Discoll,Pammie is right Berlin is one of the good outdoor tracks, thats where me & my mates are going next year.Another good track is Inzell in Southern Germany,I'll find their website address out & post it up tomorrow. It was good to see Franky Zorn & Posa back on some sort of form in Assen.Spoke to Franky on Saturday afternoon & he told me in Russia he blew up 3 engines and now had to work for 2 weeks to pay for them, poor lad. After the sunday meeting my mate showed Posa, Khomitsevich running into the back of him on his video camera."he headed straight for you Posa" we said,"oh yes" replied Posa. When asked if he was coming back next year,Posa smiled & said "maybe, maybe". A true hero that man. -
Thanks Conkers, good to see Franky in the line up (and Posa). Not long now,Waiting nearly over........
