There appeared to have been joined up thinking with the season ticket offer earlier this season but this for some reason was withdrawn by Edinburgh although I read that Glasgow kept there promise

Glasgow V Plymouth Play Off Qf
SharpenRake replied to Gazc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
George is right. I started wondering about the crowds when a video appeared on the club website saying we needed 1200 just to break even and the facennas said we needed more people on a regular basis. so one night I sat down and counted the crowd for 2 of our meetings based on the many photos that appear on web sites etc and on a night I thought we'd had a good crowd I counted 980 people, a night when I thought it was no bad 760 people. I know its not 100percent accurate but its clear to me we're not averaging 1200+ as suggested by MD. we've lost a lot of space in the front terracing with the need for a clear passageway and a lot of the 1st bend terracing has been lost with the erection of the Tigers Den. its a cup final for goodness sake against our biggest rivals who've also put their prices up; at least we have decent facilities! -
Glasgow V Rye House Sunday 13th Sept @ 3pm
SharpenRake replied to Gazc's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As everyone says this was not entertainment as we know it. To be fair the track was difficult to begin with due to the weather and its probably the first time that some of the Rye guests have ever seen dirt as they are normally in the 2nd half when tracks have slickened off. Just hope it hasn't put off newcomers/returnees as the Glasgow promotion continue to try and 'promote' the sport Anyway we coiuld look on the bright side if the meeting had been postponed it could have been re-scheduled AFTER the play-offs. -
No Weegies At The Dump?!
SharpenRake replied to Fenway Bleachers's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
people on this and other forums complain about the woes of speedway- to many guests, rider replacement doesn't always work and anyway causes delays to meetings, why don't promoters promote and sell the sport, the season should build up to a climax not be a damp squib, etc etc. And yet we have some people on here suggesting lets put on a cup final 1st leg at a weeks notice when both teams will need r/r and maybe a guest -
Workington V Glasgow Pl 5/9/15 7pm
SharpenRake replied to Comet Dan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Its nice to see fans from both sides come on here and say what a great meeting it was; no bad luck stories; no what ifs; no the refs a homer, etc. its a pity not all fans are like that. From aglasgow point of view brilliant effort by the team but just not enough for the points. So we should finish third and that means two extra meetings to fit in, the next few weeks should be fun -
Workington V Glasgow Pl 5/9/15 7pm
SharpenRake replied to Comet Dan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Would like to think we'll do well but think we shall lose; worky are good at home. can't help thinking with 4 riders doubling up plus there guest bookings that men and machine are getting tired, look at aaron last night. Must be difficult to juggle bookings and getting your engines serviced etc especially for young james who presumably won't be on the same points money as Nick, Richard and Aron. Add in the vendetta by refs on james and no wonder his confidence appears to be low. Just hope everyone returns safe and fit for the play-offs and cup final. -
I was just wondering is it ok to mention the Glasgow v Newcastle fixture on this thread. Glasgow deserved to win the meeting and in normal circumstances even the highly critical fans would be happy but in a 2 leg affair we sadly missed Vikter and Nemo. With normal temperature resumed the track held up well despite the early start with lots of fast times and a track record. although many fans like the 2 meetings in one day I've never been a fan. to many things can go wrong and also hosting the 1st leg puts more pressure on the riders and referee to get things finished quickly and with using r/r there is not much time to tweak set-ups change gearings etc. Hopefully everyone will be fit for Workington away and Rye House at home.

Glasgow V Somerset Sunday 23rd August.
SharpenRake replied to Pogo1's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Having sat back and read various comments, I may be in the minority but still can't believe Glasgow lost. Nick's crash followed by Richard's exclusion were the key moments. On the bright side we are highly unlikely to get another sunny, warm, windy day this year so the dusty/slick track shouldn't be a problem for forthcoming matches. and just to say the track was absolutely soaked prior to racing so don't think they could have put on anymore . -

Should be a corker of a meeting Shaleshifter with the reserves perhaps being crucial. If Vikter continues his recent ashfield form tigers should win. You'll love the stadium - we can now call it a stadium lets be honest it was a derelict weed strewn dump before! Forecast is getting better light rain shower 10am sunshine at 1pm and cloudy at 4pm but as paulco says it will keep changing up until sunday morning. so since your on a tour anyway get along early and enjoy the food and drink and theres usually a singer or something on before hand. -
Am I smug . this forecasting lark is a doddle though probably got the crowd wrong looked to me to be the biggest we have had apart from the opening match. Also good to hear cookie saying nice things about the track and how much he enjoyed it etc etc and to be fair he was well received by the crowd. also nice to see most people waiting for the trophy ceremony and the spraying of the champagne, what a waste

Well the weather forecast is great, for once . looking forward to a burger and chips and a few tomorrow at the Peugeot stadium. Clearly Craig Cook is the favourite but you can't have everything A pity that some of the original line-up had to pull out cos of injury but these things happen. Glad that riders that have guested for us have been invited. Josh normally does well and Richie Worral had a brilliant meeting a few weeks ago. Forecast big crowd; Michael and Jimmy have problems with the Slovenians name and 1st Craig Cook; 2nd Richard L; 3rd Josh G

Would Pontus Aspgren fit back in?

Spot on Paulco; 15 heats for a league match with 12-14 riders costs £15 at Glasgow. Its obvious 22 heats with 16 riders must cost more. I look forward to the line-up for the Scottish Open - seem to remember the monarchs charge more for this than for there league matches. At Glasgow in a modernised stadium its normally £15 for 15 heats; £20 for 22 heats would seem reasonable.

Glasgow V Redcar Pl Sun 9th Aug 2015 At 3pm
SharpenRake replied to Paulco's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
This realy was a thrashing. a puncture for Victor when miles in front in heat 2 otherwise he would have had a well deserved maximum. an Ef for our guest Josh who scored paid 9 from his other 3 rides and Aaron having bike problems in the last heat which also helped block Richard who was lining up to pass the impressive Anderson. so basically we were unlucky on the day sadly Redcar have had no luck recently with all there injuries but you can only beat whats in front of you and it was a big pay day for the home team. seemed to be a good crowd again with 100s of kids enjoying free entry and there race against Roary The riders are playing there part posing for photos and giving autographs and celebrating the win with wheelies and kozza style 'dancing'. only downside to these big crowds is you have to get in about an hour before the start to get a seat in the stand -
