  1. That will be the grand son of former footballer Willie Johnston or did you mean the grand son of former rugby star John Rutherford?
  2. A football match lasts 90 minutes plus stoppages. But you don't get 90 minutes of thrilling play! Time wasting, play acting, time to take corners throw ins, substitutes, passing side ways etc. A speedway match should also be 90 minutes with the 15 heats being the main but not the only attraction. So a bit unfair to then compare costs There's probably someone asking on a football forum why is football so dear compared to speedway. Also unfair comparing league racing with GPs. GP riders have a team of mechanics in the pits changing set ups and tyres so can make changes quickly. Most riders in league speedway have a mate that helps out if they are lucky. Home riders changing set ups might explain the delays and also explain why some away riders do better after a interval. So in some cases you may need delays to get good racing but you may also then get the wrong result!
  3. Plus any scunthorpe fans that have made plans to travel to Glasgow and Glasgow fans who have been robbed of a home match on a decent track with a trip through to the trick track the only alternative or then again there's always the pub
  4. Edinburgh were told to fit in the meeting with Glasgow. Glasgow have had to cancel there home match with scunthorpe which means after this Friday we don't have a home team match till 21 june.
  5. So what would you propose. A 10 point man quits/withholds his services he can be replaced by a guest up to 10 points average. A 2 point man quits he can be replaced by a rider with the same average. In both cases the team is given 28 days to find a replacement. what is wrong with that rule.
  6. Another way of looking at it is that the Edinburgh v tigers rain off could delay the rest of the competition. We all know what happened last year.its not Glasgow fault that the Edinburgh match was rained off so Glasgow should not suffer if the bspa bring in a deadline for the match to be completed. Somerset average 2.25 from there 4 meetings and Glasgow are averaging 2.4 from there 5 meetings. So if Edinburgh can't fit the match in or it gets rained off again Glasgow should be included as the best runner up
  7. I think everyone hoped he'd get back to his pre injury form. Sadly for everyone this hasn't happened. He's done the right thing and hopefully by riding just in the national league he'll build up his confidence. Who we get to replace him is another matter.
  8. Ive just checked 3 different weather forecasts for 'springburn, glasgow' and all three predict it will be dry tonight with a slight chance of a shower over lunchtime. It will be chilly so look out the red and white scarves and hats that have been put away for the summer, you might need them .
  9. Is there a cut of for the semis or will we have the farce of last year
  10. I totally agree and confidence is so important. Look at Ryan MacDonald, he can obviously ride a bike and last night when he did make the gate, possibly for the first time ever, he beat the impressive Jordan Palin (and Luke) in a time similar to all the other junior heat winning times but in the other races he was tentative going into the 1st bend. The thing is the management are in a difficult position you can imagine the comments from the tigers haters if Luke was replaced.
  11. Thanks, assumed it be in the testimonials section. Always like to read the updates and comments just to see if I was at the same match as the texter. Just to say for those relying on the updates the big screen did update the scores despite what the updates said. It was clearly announced that Heat 17 was a top scorers race but cookie wouldn't be riding as he wanted the 4 prizes to be won by riders that had supported him rather than him winning one of his prizes. Would thank all riders including the no limits youngsters with Jack Smith looking more comfortable than when last rode for us and Jordan Palin looking a real prospect.
  12. I agree it is no the most helpful way to publicise a meeting, however he did announce that the match is a 4 team tourney with teams from Glasgow, Belle Vue, Workington and Edinburgh and he listed the captains as Max Fricke, Sam Masters Ricky Wells and I assume he is riding and will be a captain. He added Steve Worrall, Dan Bewley , Justin Sedgmen and Richard Lawson. Tonight he's added Josh Pickering, Paul Starke, Palm Toft and Jorgensen that makes 12 riders with 4 to go. Not a bad line up so far although Jorgensen is a surprise as he hasn't ridden for any of the 4 teams before whilst the rest have. Anyway if you are a Tigers comets, aces or monarchs fan id think you would want to support a rider that has entertained you over the years
  13. That's a pity, lots of speedway fans were really hoping you would attend
  14. Glad to admit I was wrong. Excellent result.
  15. Like other Tigers fans am a bit worried about this match. People forget that Aaron was brilliant for the Tigers apart from the season he picked a Polish based engine tuner and remember he's a former track record holder. The only thing coty lacked was reliable good equipment, when he was on it he was superb. The others have all had decent performances and if they pop out the gate who knows. As others have said they've had competitive action and we've had individual meetings or just practise. Everyone seems to have forgotten cookie is coming back from injury and no one knows how he'll do and luke hasn't ridden competively for a while again due to injury. Hate to say it but can see us losing particularly if we have bike and tapes problems
  16. If wolves do win easily I'll be surprised basically they are a Championship team albeit with an excellent premiership rider at No.1
