Glasgow v Poole 4th June 2021. Championship.
SharpenRake replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The thing that makes it worse is that Glasgow is having its summer this week so the match won't be hampered by rain and cold unlike the Kent fixture. I reckon we would have had a bumper crowd so just hope all Poole fans follow Steve Shovlar's lead and buy a streaming pass. A bit worried by this one as they nearly beat Eastbourne despite their aussies finding it tough. I assume they'll be more at home with Ashfields sweeping bends plus their heat leaders have scored well in the past. -
Edinburgh v Redcar 28th May
SharpenRake replied to Al Stewart's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Sadly from reading a number of posts over the last few years on various forums, it is clear some speedway fans don't like to pay for anything that is 'televised'. They are always looking for a free service rather than pay for Sky, BT, Premier Sports, Eurosport, etc. This match was covered by the speedway updates site as are most matches. It is great when you can't get to your own track for some reason or for distant away matches. However this match was available thanks to the efforts of the Edinburgh promotion. The updater for the updates site purchased a pass to view the action and then posted detailed updates. It had 1000s of views none of which benefitted the clubs involved. Surely when a reasonably priced stream is available, fans from both teams and those with a casual interest should purchase a pass? -
Official Speedway GB web site has picked a cracking heat from this match - VIDEO: KING'S LYNN v WOLVERHAMPTON - British Speedway Official Website (speedwaygb.co.uk) well worth watching.

He also posted a positive tweet prior to the wolves meeting. To much being made of his tweet last week, so he admitted to being nervous, who wouldn't be, he won his last 3 rides for goodness sake.

Don't think going to level 2 would help the speedway, although it would help lots of other venues, pubs Think the Facennas need no restrictions on the number of paying customers to make it work, although I could be wrong

Kent vs Eastbourne (KOC) Tuesday 25th

Does anyone know was Paul Hurry programmed to ride in this match or was he still suffering from an allergic reaction to his Covid vaccination? Also how is Tom Bacon after his spill last Friday? -
Glasgow v Kent Friday 21 May 2021- live stream

I also posted this on the Kent 2020 thread and had no response. -
So that will be a no then?

Have posted this on the Glasgow v Kent thread but then thought it might be better on this one. Most of the posts I've read on this forum suggests streaming has a place in the sport even when we get back to normal particularly for away fans. Good to see that East End Fan bought a ticket but just wondering did any other Kent fans purchase a ticket to see their team's first ever match in the Championship?

Glasgow v Kent Friday 21 May 2021- live stream

Thought the streaming worked well with just a few glitches when sound was lost. Michael Max was excellent as co-presenter and it was nice to see Nigel Pearson travelling up to the track to also help. Annoyingly the weather forecast which had been accurate for most of the week got it wrong with steady light rain, then heavy rain falling in the evening at a time when it was meant to be light cloud! With the track already wet and it being the coldest May in Scotland for 40+years, the track just didn't have a chance to dry out. Remarkably the track record was broken twice during the evening. All of the Tigers had their moments with Sam Jensen being very impressive. Unfortunately Tom Bacon crashed out, hope he's ok, reducing Kent to a 5 man team using R/R and IRR which made it really difficult for them. It would be interesting to know how many people tuned in and whether streaming could become part of the new normal. -
All you need to know about this is on the Tigers Facebook page Glasgow Tigers Speedway | Facebook Kent line-up as follows 1. Scott Nicholls (c), 2 Paul Hurry, 3 Paul Starke, 4 Tom Bacon, 5 Cameron Heeps, 6 Ben Morley, 7 Jake Mulford (G) Really looking forward to this and will be good to see Paul Starke back at Ashfield and of course the last time Scott Nicholls rode here he lifted the the league trophy I think it will be a home win but wonder how the riders will cope with the new tyres that they have to use this year, might make everything even more unpredictable. Can't wait.

The weather forecast for Glasgow on Friday is currently OK so buying a ticket for the streamed match (£11.95) against Kent would seem to be a good option Home | Glasgow Tigers Speedway

Don't have too much detail as yet, but Glasgow will be streaming their home meeting against Kent on Friday 21st Glasgow Tigers Speedway | Facebook
-
True, but I hope your not suggesting that the home office are inefficient by only going for 2 when there were more in the area.

To be fair the illegal immigrants went quietly to the Home Office van, it was a bunch of locals, not illegal immigrants that created the rammy

Glasgow announce they will be streaming their matches, more information on their facebook page (3) Glasgow Tigers Speedway | Facebook with more details to follow

Championship League Predictions
SharpenRake replied to W9 Lion's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
As everyone knows injuries will play a key part as will signing riders that may become available particularly when averages change. Does anyone know what happens to 'rising stars', are they protected? How does the situation at Leicester work when they have 2 new rising stars and one old rising star - the Thompson twins and Bates . Could two of then be replaced by non rising stars as long as one remains and if so what are the chances that changes will be made? -
Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020
SharpenRake replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The management committee could always bring in a rule that any team that receives a grant from the Scottish government will not be allowed to compete in the UK league because its not fair. -
After what happened at the weekend in Glasgow there could be a spike in cases at a time when all the sacrifices we have made in Scotland plus vaccinations seemed to be bringing the virus down to manageable levels. And yes it did look as if everything was pointing to a positive announcement just before the Scottish Government elections. With the possible spike in cases who knows what will happen. Just hope that spectator sports including both speedway teams don't end up having to suffer a targeted lockdown as a result of the behaviour of one football teams fans.

Or Workington -
Just love the word 'suggests' which suggests you don't know but heh ...... So - - I would suggest that as he has a UK passport; didn't need a work permit in 2019; rode for the Belle Vue Colts, a NDL team, in 2019 then that clearly makes him 'British' in the eyes of the UK government and British Speedway governing body. Throw in the fact that he is only 18, having arrived in the UK when only 16, ending up with an 8.55 average for the Colts just after a few months, this alone should be enough to make him a rising star - better average than team mate Danny Phillips who is ranked as a 2* rider. Plus he won't be the first rider to take advantage of being able to ride in Australian championship meetings. For example, Tai Woffinden won the 2006 Western Australian Under-16 title, in Perth.
-
He was due to ride at Cowra for the U21 NSW Title which has been delayed until tomorrow due to rain!
-
Can't understand the obsession that some fans have that young Brits should try and get a contract abroad. They then complain when riders like Woffinden stop racing in the UK or complain when our fixtures are messed about cos riders are racing abroad. We should be pleased that Harris, Lawson, the Worralls, King, Barker and the rest prioritise the UK to earn a steady living rather than persue a contract in the grand prix circus.
