I suppose it may depend on stadium owners/staffing etc, hopefully things will become clearer in the next week or so, we might even get a bit more info before the British Speedway Quiz live on YouTube at 8.30 tomorrow night (We never get more than 20 out of 40 but still enjoy taking part)

Sorry not very good at posting links but have a read on the official Speedway GB website, looks to me like we'll get some speedway this year and I for one can't wait. The Virus is a concern but I'll be taking sensible precautions as far as possible and I reckon us spectators will be able to social distance ourselves to the same extent that we are able to do in Tesco or a pub. Anyone who feels really worried about the Virus should perhaps not go but my attitude is life must go on and I'll be there (weather permitting. Official British Speedway @SpeedwayGB

Theatres can open outdoors with an audience so surely speedway can run as long as everyone is sensible
-
The following has just been announced, surely now speedway can start up at the beginning of August. "Pools, gyms and sports facilities will be able to reopen and team sports and outdoor gigs resume in England, the government has announced. Outdoor pools and performances can resume from Saturday with social distancing in place, Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said. Beauticians, nail salons and tattooists can also reopen from Monday, he said. Indoor gyms, sports facilities and pools will be able to reopen from 25 July. Guidance will be published for team sports to return from Saturday."

Are YOU missing British Speedway?
hammer1969 replied to Robinh88's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Yes, I am missing Speedway and have been hoping since March that there will be Speedway this year. With the latest rumours that the 2 metre rule may be reduced to 1 metre when the pubs open I see no reason why Speedway meetings can't run, it's an outdoor non contact sport (usually) and supporters can easily social distance on the terraces and can use common sense when using the loos, queuing for chips etc. Football has started, all be it in empty stadiums and the physio etc were wearing masks and treating injured players on the pitch, my local outdoor food market opened this week and it was packed with shoppers who were certainly were not socially distanced. It now needs Rob Godfrey etc to put the Speedway case to the appropriate authority and the rest of us who want to see Speedway back to keep our fingers crossed. -
First time ever I bought my GP tickets well in advance but expect at some point I'll be offered a refund and booked Travelodge on flexi rate minutes after last year's GP finished and got a really good price, was really surprised when I looked that rooms were actually on sale so far in advance. Oh well people's lives must come first hopefully things will go back to some sort of normality in the not too distant future. Stay safe everyone.
-
Tickets are also still being sold for the GP at Cardiff but I wonder what chance that has of going ahead as planning is underway to use the Principality Stadium as a 2,000 bed hospital for Coronovirus patients.

Well done Eastbourne, love Question of Sport, don't know hardly any of the answers without cheating due to brain getting old plus only been an Eagle fan for a couple of years but I love reading Eagles website. After last Saturday's I was really really looking forward to tonight's streaming of a meeting but then saw it will be the 2019 home nail biter against Leicester with the last heat decider. Anyone who wasn't there that night will really enjoy it, for those of us who were there - can you really bear to watch it again, don't know if I can, I'm still speechless over the score (trying hard here not to give anything away to anyone who doesn't know what happened). All I can say is watch it if you can ! Keep up the good work Eastbourne/Ian Jordan, we'll be back as fans and can't wait for the day. Stay safe everyone.

Cardiff GP is looking vulnerable as they are going to turn the stadium into a temporary corona virus hospital. Stay safe everyone.

World of Books also showing one of them, it's £3.99 second-hand but it's free postage

This virus is serious I'm not suggesting I will go if over 70s are banned i will have to follow the rules and the chances are Speedway wont be running anyway. What I do think though is to tell over 70s to stay indoors for a long period of time is not going to stop the virus it will though help to protect vulnerable people but surely common sense can prevail, stay in if your ill or vulnerable, if your healthy going for walks etc but not having direct contact with others can't do any harm, better than sitting in, none of us know when our time is up why waste it.
-
And apparently Matt Hancock has just announced it is going to happen.
-
That would be discrimination, a lot of us oldies are fitter and take more care with our health than youngsters. I daresay they would be doing it to try to protect us from the Virus and relieve the burden on the NHS but surely us oldies are capable of using common sense, I'd rather be at a speedway meeting than being stuck in doors "waiting for God"

All sports have their own fans be it large followings or small. I follow speedway and want to continue, if it has to delay for a time be it long or short I'll be back. Promoters and riders have a tough time ahead and hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel. As a supporter I will do all I can to help, every meeting for my team I have to miss through cancellation I will put the admission money to one side so it's there for when they restart. I know the virus situation is depressing and the months ahead look bleak but for goodness sake all the depressing talk is not helping matters it's time to show support for Speedway and get behind the Promoters whatever hard decisions they have to make and let's hope stadium owners, sponsors etc do the same because they are running businesses as well.
-
I quite agree this is very serious, unfortunately this virus will probably be with us for a very long time until someone finds an inoculation to try to guard against it. In the meantime we all need to be sensible and take precautions as your son advised but life has to go on, let's hope we'll all be able to attend Speedway and other events in the not too distant future without having to worry.
-
I'm "one of the elderly " and the media hyping it all up won't stop me attending speedway, I'll obviously take sensible precautions and if I feel ill will stay home. I've probably got more chance of catching the virus in Tesco or from family/friends than at a speedway meeting. All being well my first meeting this year will be the Ben Fund at Scunthorpe tomorrow and I hope others will also support this good cause whether or not you like the line up.

Peterborough Speedway Disabled Parking 2020
hammer1969 replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
And, as many people do not seem to grasp "not all disabilities are visible" Also the form filling and face to face interviews we have to go through in our Borough to get accepted for BB qualification is off putting, if I could walk as far as others with no problem I wouldn't bother to go through the rigmarol of applying for one. -
Peterborough Speedway Disabled Parking 2020
hammer1969 replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Peterborough obviously don't want to try to find a compromise that will suit all parties. Us BB holders are told in our terms and conditions that misuse of the badge can result in it being taken away. If, and I say if, staff were being abused the badge number should have been taken, it's on the front of the badge, and also the car reg and then report the incident to the appropriate Council. Also that particular BB number could have been banned from using disabled parking in future at Peterborough. Why should all BB holders tarnished due to the actions of one person. As someone else said all badge holders could also be told they will have to wait for a bit longer to exit the car park. As for the excuse of people walking about and car movement etc how do people get to their cars in the main car park - fly - there is the same chance of an accident there as anywhere else. -
Link to Podcast by Ian Jordan is now on the Eastbourne website. I've just had a listen and well done to Ian Jordan really interesting and informative to listen to. Eastbourne are really trying to bring their Speedway club to the notice of more prospective fans and also to keep regular fans of the Eagles and speedway in general informed about the latest news etc of Eastbourne. Other clubs should take note and try to follow Eastbournes excellent example.

Scunthorpe Scorpions 2020
hammer1969 replied to ScunnyDan's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
We might be in the area on 14th March and are hoping to get to the Ben Fund meeting and would like some advice 're seating in the stadium or should we bring our own as we won't be able to stand for a couple of hours. Also what's the parking like. Any advice will be appreciated thanks. -
If speedway wants to attract new (and younger) supporters facilities need to be brought into the 21st century. They don't have to be state of the art but paying customers should at least be able to access decent toilets, buy food and drink and have a choice of seating or bring their own seat if they prefer. We all know speedway can be a dusty sport to watch on a dry/hot day I hope nobody forgets to shut the windows on the new gym building if speedway returns. Wonder where the referees box will be relocated to?

Or better still as many supporters as possible turn up at Eastbourne for the 1st match and Poole for the 2nd match and watch Eastbourne knock them out ( hopefully)
-
The Championship in my opinion was a nicely run league, we now get "newcomers" to it and suddenly a word in the right ear and cup ties get changed. The cup fixtures were sorted and advised to all, they should never have been changed just because one club found it difficult to fit in a first round meeting. If the can't fit in the meetings then withdraw from the cup altogether, or perhaps stay in a league with only 7 teams in it and therefore less meetings altogether during the season would suit them better. With a bit of luck Eastbourne will progress victorious from the second round, after all they did give Leicester a run for their money last season, and that should help Poole with their "crowded" fixture list.
-
So we now know the reason for Poole getting a bye after having been originally drawn to meet Newcastle in the 1st round, the following is copied from the Poole website. "The Poole management are keen to clarify the situation regarding the SGB Championship KO Cup draw, with their tie against the Eastbourne Eagles being confirmed as a second round tie. Initially, the club had been drawn to face Edinburgh in the first round but trying to slot an early cup date into the club's busy start of season campaign encountered a number of logistical problems, particularly as the Pirates, back on Wednesday night racing, have to share the date with Birmingham and Somerset (together with Kent) and do not have the 'grandfather' rights over those two already established Championship clubs. Newcastle, originally drawn with a bye to the second round, had greater flexibility in the early weeks of the season and so, rather than risk delaying the competition unnecessarily, the two promotions reached an agreement, sanctioned by the BSPA that the Diamond's would take Poole's place in the first round. The Pirates were then subsequently drawn against Eastbourne, who along with Kent and Scunthorpe were routed into the second round. Poole promoter Dan Ford explained "Our fixture list is pretty much very packed out in the first couple of months of the season and fitting in an early round cup tie was proving impractical. We spoke with the Newcastle promotion and reached a sensible compromise. The switch between us and Newcastle made sense on so many levels and so we jointly made the approach to the governing body to allow this to happen. The Pirates will race the cup tie against Eastbourne on 10th June (home) and 14th June (away)."
