Surely statistics go out of the window when throughout the season the "two best reserves" have both been out for a period of time (Newman especially) with injuries. You can't take the start of the season line up and run it throughout the season as so many variables come into account.

Of course he was in front of him at Kings Lynn, Ellis had broken his collarbone just over two weeks previously. The thing is it's what the GB manager thinks is what counts. I think he looks at more than the one off meetings and more who's on form at the time they're needed

I'd hardly say Eliis is head and shoulders above Bates considering Bates is 2x and current British Under 21 Champion and he is in front of Ellis in the World under 21 series this season despite carrying a shoulder injury in the first round at King's Lynn.
