I'm just sad at the state of our sport in this country and our inability to nurture riders the way Poland, Denmark and Sweden do.Rose-coloured glasses I know but oh for the days when GB had a Test side worth its name.

Thanks from the info.

I am very old and had a BSA Bantam in the 60's. Of course, the West Midlands is the true home of Motorcycles but sadly Japan has taken over, hence my comment. I wish it was not so. Purists and discerning motorcycle buyers should look to the traditional British marques...I am on your side on this one.

London fans of a certain age may remember Japan's "Jimmy" Ogisu putting in an appearance at Wimbledon back in the 60's.I recall seeing photos and some film footage of a type of speedway in Japan, held on hard surface tracks. I don't know if speedway as we know it has ever been held in Japan though. Asia is well known for motor sports, both 2 and 4 wheel with many Asian countries holding major events. Does anyone know if "proper" speedway has ever been held in Japan?. As the home of the motorcycle on would feel it could be viable.

Many thanks for this information. seems my knowledge of Kazakhstan needs updating!. Seriously though, I do wish I could see the rounds live. -
No longer having a team to support I tend to only watch GP/SEC on tv. In my younger days it was always team racing first and foremost, with the big individual meetings the icing on the cake. With the disparity in ability within a league team the racing can be a tad disappointing, whereas the major individual events usually provide more exciting fare. In the days of England/Australia and England/Sweden Tests we had evenly matched teams giving us exciting meetings. If my personal circumstances allowed me to attend I would get behind a team again, so it would be team racing for me. However, as the Elite meetings I have seen on tv have not exactly thrilled me I have to say I prefer Individual events. As I have said before..."Keep it simple"..

2015 Ice Speedway Gladiators

Sayfutdinov, Woffinden, Pedersen and Kildemand together on the 400m. Inzell ice track. With some intensive training and practice that could be quite spectacular. I would love to see that...most unlikely though. -

Well, he has nothing to prove I guess...how does one top 8 consecutive world titles?. -

I wonder how the phenomonal Nikolai Krasnikov would fare on the shale. He is still quite young in spite of his 8 world titles. -
OK...I know this is not Speedway as we know it, but I was intrigued to hear a round of next year's World Championship series is being held in Kazhakstan. Hardly a hotbed of Motor Sport I would have thought. Back in the 60's top Speedway riders excelled at Ice Speedway also...Knutsson, Fundin, Kadyrov and Samorodov for example. I wonder how many of today's GP/SEC stars could be successful on the ice?.

That attendance figure seems a tad optimistic for a play-off but who knows!. -
Although I never attended any PL meetings, being a Rye House regular 1960-64 then West Ham 1964 until their demise. I well remember the riders mentioned as they became British League riders in 1965. I too was impressed with Ivor Brown and as I attended many away meetings in the late 60's I had the opportunity to see most of the old PL riders at venues such as Cradley, Newport etc.. Nostalgia and rose-coloured spectacles lend those days a magic I don't see in the EL.

I have to agree. The name of the game is progression...progressing young British talent through the ranks to improve the stock of British riders. One gets nowhere by standing still!.

Belle Vue National Stadium
customhouseregular replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Some of us by virtue of having health issues, financial constraints, distance from nearest track and transport difficulties find attending meetings impossible. That does not stop us being fans...in my case for 54 years, or having valid views and concerns. There are stay-away fans that do so out of choice and those that stay away out of necessity. Are you saying that because I can't get to meetings nothing that happens within the sport should concern me?. -
2015 Gp Wild Cards
customhouseregular replied to arnieg's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Very surprised to see Kildemand miss out. Very surprised to see Jonasson in. Odd game this speedway...politics trumps ability (must have a Swede). Can't really fault the other 3 though in the absence (needless) of Emil, though I may have picked Laguta over MJJ. Purely personal choice this. -

2015 Gp Wild Cards

Sounds logical but if there is to be a Germann GP (if) Smolinski must be in with a shout. He would obviously get the wildcard though. -
Australian Gp Is Back
customhouseregular replied to Stats's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I'm a little confused as to why, if Australia is repacing New Zealand, the Aus GP is not the season opener. Presumably the etihad is not available early in the year, or is there another reason?. -
2014 European Speedway Championships
customhouseregular replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
I would like to see one, preferably at Kings Lynn but unless Tai gets a permanent wildcard and maybe another Brit qualifies, I'm not too sure how many people would come. Thousands should given the excellent racing seen in SEC 2014. -
I could not agree more. Thank you Norbold.
