  1. He is certainly giving the impression of late that his best years are behind him. Still, you can’t fault his record and it may be many years before we have another 3-time world champion.
  2. Phil Bishop… King of Crash/India Rubber Man
  3. To summarise… I believe at the end of the series every rider should have to qualify for a next series. We may end up with a completely different field, but Mauger, Fundin and Briggs proved the best will usually come through.
  4. I think the point I am trying is make is being missed. Unless I am wrong no rider in say 1966 could become WC without qualifying from at least one meeting in 1966. I don’t remember Bjorn Knutsson being seeded to the 1966 final as reigning champion. In essence the GP’s are a World Final spread over a series of rounds. Without the Russian ban Laguta would have been in this year’s WF series, not having had to qualify this year. Therefore Mauger, Fundin and Briggs were at a disadvantage in the 60’s and 70’s compared to Laguta, Hancock and Woffinden. Under the GP system riders are seeded on the basis of the previous year. The previous generation were not.
  5. My experience of WC speedway started in the early 60’s. If any rider was seeded from then I apologise for my error.
  6. OK..I admit my interest and experience of WC speedway started in the early 60’s, but if anyone was seeded from that time I apologise for my error.
  7. Once upon a time nobody got seeded. Everyone from the World Champion down started the next year from scratch. Didn’t stop Mauger winning 6, Fundin winning 5 or Briggs winning 4.
  8. I was obviously on holiday when those meetings took place.
  9. It got lost sometime during several house moves, but mine was the 1968 High Beech 40th. Anniversary of British Speedway meeting, signed by every current and former rider I could collar.
  10. a lot of also-ran here but even so Harris will need to be on top form to make top 4.
  11. It looks right when I press submit but when I read it back it sometimes reads wrong.
  12. As long as Bartosz continues at his current level Magic will not reach the top spot. As we know, speedway is a precarious sport so anything may happen. If Bartosz is forced to miss a couple of rounds then go feel the title is Magic’s and lose. Just my opinion of course.
  13. It certainly repays consistency. A rider finishing second in every GP would most likely be crowned champion, even if not winning a single round.
  14. We will have to agree to differ my friend. I don’t like the new system. I never liked semis and finals either. For me it’s 20 heats with top scorer winning. Sorry if that makes me a dinosaur.
  15. But it isn’t the case here is it?. Unless one makes the final they can finish with less points scored over 20 races. Make the final and finish with more points scored over 20 races. In what other sphere of motor sport does this apply?.
  16. Interesting. Bewley should be tied with Vaculik and 1 point behind Dudek.
  17. Not if they alternate the A’s and B’s semis and finals to reduce the delay between the heats and semis/finals. Just an idea, as I said, May be daft.
  18. Is this a daft idea?…Top 8 after 20 heats race 2 A semis and an A Final. Points scored 16 down to 9. Bottom 8 after 20 heats race 2 B semis and a B Final. Points scored 9 down to 1. Points scored in the heats discarded.
  19. That’s a really hard one to follow. Must be some hidden meaning.
