  1. Pretty sure 2 different stadia but both Plough Lane. The speedway stadium was a great place once upon a time. Always enjoyed my visits.
  2. Emil is very experienced and has ridden a multitude of tracks in many countries. He has competed against every rider of note and beaten them all. I reckon he knows what he is talking about.
  3. Maybe my Tottenham season ticket holder son would take me as a 75th. Birthday present.
  4. Basic bikes, upright engines, cow horn handlebars, the smell, noise and flying shale. Bibs, not team suits, helmet covers that blew off, scarves, nicknames like little boy blue. I love nostalgia.
  5. Maybe re occasion v racing. One remembers what one wants to remember.
  6. I only attended the Wembley finals 1965-1981. None the them underwhelmed me.
  7. I admit the only WF’s I attended were at Wembley and my attendance at meetings were spasmodic post-1981. Had WF’s at Wembley continued post-1981 would successive finals have been better and better attended?. I know I am a dinosaur and living in the past, but it loved my speedway in the 60’s/70’s. I really can’t say anything I have seen on tv in the GP era has excited me as much.
  8. The BLRC and the Internationale had great fields and were great meetings in their own way. But... the WF had drama and Wembley had magic. Most GP’s don’t have drama, there’s another one in two weeks, and Cardiff had zero magic compared to Wembley on my only visit to Cardiff. I can’t comment on other WF venues. Rose- coloured glasses maybe, but I have rarely seen a GP to compare with the BLRC. Hyde park was a magic night.
  9. Scenario: Szmarzlik and Laguta get injured before the next GP and take no further part this year. Lindgren or Sayfutdinov wins the title. Did the best rider win, is he a worthy World Champion? Luck has always played a part. Sczakiel was lucky Mauger fell, Muller was lucky the final was in Germany and had the track prepared to his liking.
  10. The old system had its flaws certainly but I still preferred it. Yes, some top guys lost out and some no-hopers made it to the final, but generally the cream rose to the top. Think Mauser, Briggs, Moore, Craven etc. I don’t know if Knutsson would have won over a 10-12 round GP series. He was good enough certainly.
  11. As I recall it was a polished cement surface, like riding on ice without the spikes. I my be mid- remembering though.
  12. I went to the first indoor meeting at the Indoor Pool Wembley, but did not really enjoy it.
  13. Most tracks I visited regularly... West Ham, Hackney, Wimbledon for instance, or only once or twice, so difficult to say. I didn’t enjoy my only visit to Crawford.
  14. I could give you 2... Newport Somerton Park and Glasgow White City, though not because of the stadia, tracks or the racing. More to do with problems with the home supporters.
  15. Not upset at all as I never got to New Cross. I admit the vast Custom House stadium really needed a large crowd to generate atmosphere, but we put up with that as the track was brilliant and we had such great riders. I saw a couple of league meetings at Wembley in the 70’s... Zero atmosphere.
