I have been discussing this with a lifelong Speedway fan, his opinion is that bangers are disliked because Speedway folk resent the fact that bangers and stock cars in some cases subsidise the speedway. The fact that a big Speedway crowd at tracks like mildo arlington Ipswich etc would be considered a tiny crowd at a car event. The other reason is that the cars often get blamed for damaging tracks, quite often even when there has been no car meeting the days prior. I love both sports (although I have gotten bored of British banger racing, so I mainly just go to Holland and Belgium nowadays) and it is a constant bug bear when Speedway fans slag off the bangers and stock cars as a pikey sport.
