Wild Cards 2019
OveFundinFan replied to phillipsr's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Easy done. -
I not a KL fan, I a speedway fan, and I don't like the playoffs. Its a money making spin at the end of the year, doesn't serve a great purpose in my opinion.
-
Call it what you want - the play offs are rubbish. Come the end of the year its a good chance the team that played earlier cant get together - showed that this year as well as previous. It was a farce at KL when they were presenting the medals, too many non-team members walking up to take the metal. That's not Poles or KL fault, just the rubbish system.
-
Kings Lynn won the Premier League, Poole won the Premier Trophy. My opinion is that topping a league over a season of home and aways is far more prestigious then a club that wins the final 2 meetings.
-
It would be nice to have a team, riders you get to know, and stick together as a team for a whole season. Guests should only be an exception. The team that tops the league are the champions, non of this play off nonsense, especially at the end of the season where the team you followed during the year looks not much like the team in the play offs. Get the admission prices lowered, and get pricing so families can afford to go. Get the kids involved with activities that they will never forget - aka IoWight. Prepare tracks for racing, not just prepared for home advantage.

Well there we have it. Two posts about having SoN in Russia, presume Togliatti, and two completely opposing opinions. So is SoN Russia going to be a roaring success or a complete failure. -
Didn’t know that GC, now that might influence my thinking as to whether I vote, now let me think........... er, NO

Wild Cards 2019

MM was 3rd in the under 21 world championship 2014 - born Aug 1994, so just over 24 VM was born May 1993 so 25 Not to far apart but Milik oldest. Been impressed the way MM has rode this year (in the small amount of tv viewing) -

the reserve list looks very sensible to me. The oldest there must be Milik. Hopefully non are needed, but if they are it would be good experience for Lambert and possibly Fricke. Hopefully Lambert will be the home wild card for Cardiff, and he got to have a better meeting then 2018, cant possibly get any worse. But there again Cookie could win the British final, or even Dan -
Wild Cards 2019

In response to CHR and JCookie - speedway is on a good run with under 21's world champ but it may not be always the case as JCookie has said. Fricke was unde 21 WC two years ago - he would have been struggled then to keep up with GP riders. I like the fact someone in the GPs can get an injury which halts them ie Vaculik for next year and NP this year., but can possibly get a wild card. Still getting over the fact wont see NP in the GPs (probably) again. If he has turned down 1st reserve for next year (as has been stated earlier post) then I can see his reason. Standing in for an odd meeting here and there is doing him no good, but he is box office so the organisers are likely to benefit. -
Wild Cards 2019

As I see it Madsen is a gater, just as Laguta is. (look at Laguta in the final last Saturday, Tai gated him and that was it - Laguta didn't even pose one challenge). I only going on what I see of him on tv ie SEC etc. So whats the reality from those who get to see him in Poland/Sweden. -
Wild Cards 2019
OveFundinFan replied to phillipsr's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
It would have been an extra Pole as Koledjei had qualified via Challenge, 4 in is 25%, 5 in would be too much at 31% of the field. 3/4 years ago a lot of people was saying the Pawlickis should be in the GPs. Both have found it to tough. Too soon for them? I reckon at least one will be back in 4 or 5 years and doing ok. Was surprised Nicki wasn't a wild card. Been interesting watching him, highly controversial, but a great racer. -
All been pointless to me for years now, stopped watching it a long while back. Just a money making machine now via phone calls.

Wild Cards 2019

Now we will se what Madsen can do. Is he a racer or a fast starter (like Laguta). If he is a racer then he will add value, if he is a fast gater then he will be boring like Laguta. -
You mean Peter Collins has not won three INDIVIDUAL world titles, he has won a total of 10 world titles. How many world titles has Tai won? er 3 (good going, but far short of Collins)

Dudek 100% Zagar 90% Fricke 60% Milik / Lambert. 50/50 Surely can’t have Smektala as that would be 5 Poles as Janus Kolodje coming from Challange qualifier. -
Tai is more, much more then a one trick pony. He ca gate, he cuts back on the first bend for sure - but so well, and he can pass in exceptional ways. I am impressed how easy he makes it all look, in contrast, to say Zmarzlik whose legs are going everywhere. TW just sits and does the stuff needed. Very impressive.

Could be said that Peter Craven was more successful then Freddie Williams. PC won 2, 3rd twice, 4th twice, and appeared in 10 finals compared with FW 5 final appearances. Plus Craven won medals in the World team, 2x 2nd, and 2x 3rd, Freddie none. So you can make a case for greatest from all round success rather then WC wins. Then of course there was Peter Collins...….. Apart from being world champ '76 and 2nd '77 (arguably could/should have been more) World Pairs 4x winner, 1x 2nd World Team 5x winner, 3x 2nd World Long Tack 1x 2nd, 2x 3rd, 1x 4th, 1x 5th Of course, just getting in a World Team or World Pairs was tough in those days, so many top riders for GB Argument could be put forward that Tai has some catching up (although 3x world champ is very good on his CV)
-
Agree with Foamfence. If Woffy gets no 3, and he probably will, then that makes him the most successful British rider in the world championship - which is really really good. Tai has matured in the last couple years, as a person and a rider. He makes speedway look so easy. He must be full of confidence at the moment, tomorrow he just has to stay clear of bikes flying at him. Be interesting when the draw is announced, at what point he meets Zmarzlik. If its in his first 2 rides and he beats Zmarzlik then I think it will be a stroll to the win.
-
I was recording the meetings, I thought 2 meetings run concurrently would replay well on a long winters night. Wrong! It wasn't the best of meetings - either of them and I wiped off the recording as soon as it was all over..... and I was even reading a book as it was on. Got to say though Bombers overtake on Doyle was brilliantly executed. from last to first.....well done Bomber.

So would Maxim Drabik (2017 under 21 world champ, runner up 2018) and Bartosz Smetkala (2018 World under 21 champion and runner up 2017) but because they Polish they not even going to get a sniff at the senior world championship unless they qualify through the Challenge.
