Time to pass on to younger fans the task of searching statistics that include older ages !

When I read about the distance I didn’t believe it. So I checked and Norwich to Kings Lynn is 45 mile, Norwich to Ipswich 45 mile, and Norwich to Mildenhall 43 mile. I was amazed.

Just seen some of day1 of the Russian championship, bored with the racing, not many spectators. I couldn’t see myself spending good money to freeze to death an see boring racing. Can’t see the point.

Why is Speedway so far behind Formula 1?
OveFundinFan replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Sounds about right. -
That’s ok. Move the gp to NSS, sell all the tickets to Polish, Swedish, Russian fans to boost the local economy and the rest of us can watch on stream.

I paid good money to see the event streamed live. I wouldn’t be happy either, if I found it on YouTube within a good three months. land for Nickinho comparing it to SkySports showing “todays” meeting in 5 months time is ridiculous…… you pay for SkySports monthly, so you expect to see them live as in taking place now.

What on earth are you on about?

Bold is not capitals, so what is the problem, what am I missing.

Thanks for the video, fantastic win by Mort...... it might have set a track record but it was'nt at Belle Vue! I still enjoyed it immensley. Would love to see the video of BV track record if you can link it, please.

66.4 sec is amazing. Peter Cravens time stood for years, and that was on an old design JAP engine. 3 seconds off it on a new high revving 4 valve machine.

Hi Steve. Gundersens name was in my mind, but I really don’t know who finally had it.

Today I was reading the Sept-Oct 2018 issue of Backtrack. 50 Memorable Moments about Crewe speedway says it was 470 years (BV Hyde Road was 418 yard). 1970 March 27 Crewe v Rochdale Heat 5 Barry Meeks set a track record of 70.8 seconds, average speed was 54.62mph. That went into Guiness Book of Records for many years, until Mark Loram did a faster record at Exeter in 1996 (ave. speed not stated). Just to compare the Crewe track record 70.8 secs with Peter Cravens Hyde Road record of 69.8 secs which stood for many years. I can’t remember who the last record holder was, but I know Peter Collins and Chris Morton broke it, but I feel some other rider holds the never to be beaten record.

Re Hotel prices In all major sixties AROUND THE WORLD hotel prices are always high whenever there is a popular event in the area. It’s not just a speedway thing, it’s everything that’s popular. We have started holidaying in the uk air stays at Premier Inn, good quality rooms, good service, usually next to a pub with food so breakfast/evening meal sorted (extra), clean and tidy. We last stayed in Premiere for a week in July this year in Norfolk and it cost circa £240 FOR THE WEEK. Broken down, some nights were dearer then others. I gather there are nights during the week more popular with reps, and weekends (Fri/Sat) are usually more expensive. Even today Premiere, and similar managed chains, are advertising rooms at circa £32-£35 per night in big cities…… but not when a big event is on. They know sports fans, pop fans, concert fans, major conference goers etc will pay bigger prices, and these make up for the bargain prices to be had during the year, people will pay 3 figure sums for one or two night special events, but don’t want to pay 4 figure sums for a mum, dad, two kids week long break. It’s how the hotel trade goes, and it is generally acceptable (though painful).

Better when in the races. Though it was really good watching the top riders make it look easy. I did one winter season of trials riding. Now that was tough, but the experts make it look ever so easy.

Why not today, it’s inevitable IMO and yours by the sound of it, so why delay.

Who has youth on his side and therefore a more promising future. Of course you can live for today, but what about tomorrow.

and of course British speedway can afford them......... I dont think so.

Last night I used the Stream ticket to watch the GB v Poland match. Track was good, as was the racing, but really the track need some investment in lighting. First 2 bends were ok-ish, but bend 3/4 really dark. It’s now it is to riders that is important but viewing stream it seemed pretty mediocre. I know there was a couple of accidents, but that match was too strung out and really could have been over before the wet weather came.

Peter Craven Memorial 23/10/21
OveFundinFan replied to IainB's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
It was a good spot as well, showed Peter riding at Wembley when he won his first world title, and at Hyde Road BV, an interview with Peter Collins and with Peters Cravens wife, Brenda who is now 89. It was all repeated at 10pm Granada news. -
and Bangs says he will be doing SWEDEN, Denmark, Poland again next year. Would like to do UK in 3 years. (Speedwaygp web site)

I already paid the £15, I was ok for watching Tuesday night, but not tonight. I emailed Monday night when the decision to cancel was made asking the same question. Not had an answer yet. I have looked through the terms & conditions but didn’t see specific mention. I think £15 if fair for a meeting with 7 world champions in it, many riders travelling from Poland, so there are expenses, and of course top riders will want good money to ride. I reckon all those that ride in Poland are getting paid a lot less then they would in Poland. And if aGlasgow speedway does earn a few quid from this event then good on them. Their big reward may be the GP Challenge some time soon, and again, they will need money to do that.

Well I have paid £15 to watch it. I suspect it’s cheaper then paying to see “live”, and as I live 200 miles away I can sit in my comfy chair as well. Supporters on here say British Speedway is not worth paying £20 to see 15 minutes of “entertainment”. So what would they pay to see top class world champions…. I counting 7 (maybe more) between the two teams.. that is including under 21, team/pairs, individual. £15 too much.!
