  1. Great Central, what makes the original safety fences at Buxton and Rye House so good?
  2. Certainly got me worried for 2 weeks time. If an indoor meeting gets cancelled, Parken or Cardiff for example, cause the track not fit, could that be the end of temporary indoor tracks?
  3. Roll on 6pm (in the UK that is) and thank you in advance to Eurosport.
  4. I must of been one of those "guests" who only peered in. It was'nt by choice though. For the last 12 months I have been trying to join but could'nt, so many times I gave up until I had a yearning to contribute to what was being said but could'nt get to join again, and again. I was filling in the "joining form", answering the question etc but when I pressed the button to join I would get a message to say I would receive an email shortly, usually immediately..... but I never did. This happened every time, so often, so I was always a "guest". I even found an email address but never got replies. Then just couple weeks ago, I tried again, got the same messages, found another email to go to (cant even remember where I found it) and someone replied to say no reason I should not of got the emails, but he had "manually" joined me. So here I am. I did wish joining was easier/quicker.... and no, information coming back to me was not going into my email junk box cause I see all my emails on my providers server (so I can delete what I dont want before it hits my computer. I am not new to speedway, went from the late fifties to early eighties, went to Poland in '76 to see PC win at Katowice, raced cycle speedway in the mid/late 60's, rode a bit of club grass tracking in the early 70's, but not been for 30 years or more UNTIL last year, 2013. Picked up the speedway GP's on Eurosport and fell in love with it again. Went to Cardiff last year and going again in 2 weeks time. So whilst I know a bit about speedway, modern riders and teams are new to me, and the organisations behind the running of speedway confuse me. But if I stick it out on the forum I am sure it will come clearer. Joe
  5. I remember last year when we started looking, city centre hotels were very expensive on the Fri and the Sat night. We got a good b&b 20 miles outside of Cardiff at a reasonable rate for the Sat night then dropped into Cardiff for the Sunday night when prices had dropped. Doing the same this year, same 2 places, and then going on to Swansea for the Monday night, home Tuesday.
  6. Both Tai and Ward seem to be riding more sensibly of late, more mature. And this time last year Tai was carrying his (first) broken collarbone. At least he is injury free. I wonder how Kasprzak is feeling?
  7. I reckon Tai will be there in the last race of the night and to win it. Zagar could be there too. Outsider would be Smolinski - if he can get his gating back to how it was in NZealand
  8. Hi The White Knight - no doubt you were trying to help, just that their were a lot threads/posts. Thanks Alan jones for the link -everything just a bit clearer now. Ongoing "problem" by the sounds of it
  9. So I type in "silencers" in the search box and get trillions of threads (well, maybe not trillions but seems like a lot), which I dont fancy trawling through, so I will just live in ignorance for a bit longer till it pops up again.
  10. Just come back to speedway after many years away. Read in a post that there seems to be some controversy relating to silencers and they being dangerous (sure thats what it was saying) Whats the story on this?
  11. As far as Park & Ride goes, we parked on a large car perk near the Travel Lodge down near the Quay, I understand it was some council office car park. Cost £10 for the two of us to park and ride, probably a mile walk to stadium but you still need to park.
  12. Always so sad to hear someone losing their life doing something they enjoyed and giving us spectators pleasure too. Being away from speedway for 30 years or so, I started watching the GP's last year on Eurosport and was surprised and pleased to see the air fence. Tracks I knew were either boards or greyhound fencing, neither would I liked to have gone into. I did a spot of club grass tracking and was glad there was plenty of run offs.
  13. I agree that Jack B is a very good presenter for the Moto GP's as for speedway.... well it was obvious he was new to it and his comments sometimes were "funny", both peculiar and laughable. But his ignorance was'nt too bad a thing, for example, when there was a false start he was'nt too sure whether the rider was to be excluded or not.... so it went over to Sam for clarification. Any newbies to speedway would be learning along with Jack B. So positive in that sense, but I can see it would frustrate "those in the know"
  14. Thanks for that link Gustix. Yes I read the Nicki P one but then saw a link to Peter Williams who rode for Belle Vue in the fifties, just as I started going. I remember him, good to read that.
  15. Has'nt Craig Cook just qualified as #16 for the Cardiff GP. Does'nt that qualify him for a position in the GB team.
  16. I dont know the current crop of youngster (just getting back into speedway after 30 years away), but from what I do know GB team is not going to win the competition so I reckon pick TW and the best youngsters, groom them on the international field - they are the future, nurture them Forget Chris Harris, he has had his chances (more chances then many from what I can gather)
  17. I never subscribed to Sky Sport so don't know what the quality of coverage was like. What i do know is that I am enjoying it on Eurosport, the GP's, the Swedish League, best pairs, team championship, whatever they want to put on. Missed speedway so much over the last 30 years or so, and now Moto GP has gone over to BT Sport, another I wont subscribe to, I am very pleased I get to see it and regularly. Good stuff.
  18. My first post so please be gentle with me. My view is NP had a faster machine then MZ, and was frustrated that he could not get at Holder for that 2nd place and into the final. Also frustrated cause MZ kept looking for where NP was riding, I think that really got to NP. and so the move on the final 2 bends. NP appeared to be slightly in front but maybe he realised he did'nt have the drive to get the point. and so, I agree with Phil Rising on this, out come the right leg and booted MZ off to oblivion (well to the fence anyway) and at high speed. I reckon MZ would have felt that force, and knew what NP had done. Got out of the air bag (fortunately) but by time he got to NP he had restrained himself somewhat and thats why the punch seemed a bit "soft", though difficult when someone wearing an helmet anyway (not that I have tried it). The lick by NP was disgusting, and maybe MZ should have gone down writhing in agony, but maybe not that sort of guy nor thought of it at that moment. In the pits, it looks like MZ was on his way back to his own pit when NP said something that diverted MZ to NP, then when MZ walking away "the mouth" started again so MZ went back. Pity his left hand did'nt hit NP proper. Sad state of affairs. I have been "away" from speedway for about 30 years till last year (thank you Eurosport), I can remember it being tough riding at times, but was surprised and sometimes shocked at how tough it is now. Either its got a lot tougher or I have softened with older age. I do agree with NP statements about Tai Woff. last year. I think sometimes Tai was out of control and "caused" a number of accidents to himself and others, specifically Cardiff, when Freddie Lingren got the blame, and the injury to Gollob. My view anyway. Then Emil went out of last years GP's. I saw the incident, Medinski was'nt it. I reckon AM knew Emil was going round the outside and deliberately squeezed him into the fence, whereas a fairer rider would have just left enough space for safety. That was tough, could have ended Emils career - certainly slowed him down a bit this year from what I have seen. There you are, first post, I will go and duck low now.
