  1. Just finished my first year subscription and will be renewing to go into my second year in the next few days. Subscription now renewed.
  2. That's correct. That whole are is now a Sports Village of which the new speedway stadium is just a part. Man City football club, the National Velodrome and other sports are only about 1.5 miles away. Manchester City Council have invested in a large and varied sports area to generate interest/income in Manchester. 3 miles away in the city itself you have the Manchester Arena holding about 20,000, loads of hotels and shops, then on the other side of the city you have Old Trafford for cricket and that other football club...eer United, plus more shopping areas and hotels.
  3. Thanks for that Grachan. Re the 2nd photo, bottom right was the entrance to the pits off Redgate Lane Pits was behind the stand on the 3rd/4th bend. Also bottom right, the other side of Redgate Lane to the pits entrance, that land became a large car park. In the summer of 1965 I rode Cycle Speedway fpr Belle Vue Gladiatirs on that car park. Every meeting day, a Sunday, we had to work on the cycle speedway track cause the night before there were cars parked all over it. Of course most of the speedway track and funfair is now a hugh British Car Auction site, with new houses where the zoo was and on the large car park referred to in previous paragraph.
  4. Yes my mistake, two of those four it probably will be on the Friday. Makes Friday even better then I thought. All for a fiver.
  5. With GB seeded through to the final means the other 3 places are between Poland, Denmark, Sweden and Australia. So the qualifier on the Friday night will contain one of those four, plus who...... USA, Russia, Czech, Latvia, Germany - choice of. Should be good if Emil and Lagutas decide to race for Russia, in fact with those three they could be one of the 3 in the final. Mmm.
  6. Just ordered 2 tickets for wife and I in the East grandstand - thats between turns 3 & 4 (will be the temporary stand). Thats where we have sat at Cardiff for the last 3 years. £42 each or the Friday qualifier and the Saturday final, which is more then twice what I pay for Cardiff - difference being there is no OAP price for the stands, obviously smaller crowd so have to pay more, and we get to see 2 meetings (though it says only a £5 for the Friday event which is a bargain). Will be my first Belle Vue meeting for over 35 years so looking forward to it.
  7. The youngsters "likeing crashes".... could that possibly stem from the violence we see on tv, films, computer games etc. wew surely dont want "stage managed" crashes in speedway......... we have enough with the likes of Kildemand dropping down when he sees fit. On Boxing Day I was watching downhill soap box racing from Holland (you know....the flat country) which was sponsored by Red Bull. A very good crowd lining the route down, lots of families. The crowd was probably as big as some speedway meetings. What attracted them to a soap box race? Then there was top quality cyclo cross from Zolder (is that Belgium or Holland), anyway, a really big crowd which would probably put most GP crowds to shame. Whats the attraction there?
  8. Nearly missed it myself but today, 25th, the knockout round at Vojens was on this afternoon. Tomorrow, Sat 26th, the SWC 2015 final is on Eurosport 2 at 5pm - 6pm then on Eurosport 1 at 6:30 is highlights of the 2015 Gran Prix season.
  9. On Eurosport 2 at 3:30 to 5:00pm is the NW 200 road race the at 5:00pm to 6:00pm is Speeway World Cup - the semi final from Kings Lynn
  10. I am catching up on missing some 30 years of speedway. That's not good news about Gary, and a reminder how cruel life can be at times.
  11. Regarding that run off with Fundin and Bengt Jansson, the story goes that as the riders walked from the pits to the start (to toss for gates) Ove "talked" Jansson out of winning. That's why Ove was known as The Wily Fox. Of course 1967 was the year riders were going over to Jawa/Eso which Fundin had been riding, but Fundin out foxed them by using a JAP engine in what I believe was a JAWA frame. He had the engine tuned to suit Wembley, telling his Belle Vue mechanic to "get the bike set up to get me to the first corner first". He beat Jansson in their heat and so again in the run off. Having said that, Banger was a quality rider who, on his day, could beat anyone. His "day" unfortunately was not that world final, nor the other ones.
  12. You need someones broadband - yes. Change over to Plusnet (12 months free broadband deal at the moment). You get access to BT Sport for £10 per month (monthly contract) Plusnet is part of BT You will need Sky though and their basic package is about £22 per month Work it out, speedway is 7 months of the year, so Plusnet access to BT Sport will be £70 You get 12 months broadband free. You do need basic Sky at £22 per month and that will be a 12 month contract. because of 12 month free broadband it may work out cheaper in the first year..... but who knows what 12 month time will bring. OR just ick speedway up on You Tube couple days after the gran prixs - it all seems to be there
  13. Emil would be top notch, the stadium will be full without hi, but with him the excitement level would be off the meter. A young Pole would be nice, Zmarzlik, one of the Pawlicki brothers, Dudek maybe. And one other "guest", television cameras - it is an historic event after all......... Belle Vue speedway back on a track built for speedway.
  14. Then the incentive is there to develop young riders - young ones are the future of the sport, always has been and always will be.. Its impossible to cover for every scenario.
  15. Turns 3-4......... That's where temporary stands will be fitted for the major meetings, so I believe - first one I imagine will be the SWC in July 2016. You must know what they plan, Phil, you had a tour round with CM & PC
  16. http://www.speedwaygp.com/ on this artist impression you notice on turn 1-2 there is not much room outside of track for stands etc. This is because BV wanted a good race track and therefore sacrificed stands for a good size track.
  17. but this reserve is to be an under 21 year old, which may (or may not) be different at this level - SWC. I think its a good move. It ensures if a rider gets injured during the meeting then there is a rider replacement available so the paying public still get to see 4 man races, and just as important..... a young rider gets a chance to soak up the atmosphere of world championship meetings from a rider perspective, and if given a chance to ride that experience is enhanced to a higher level..... AND we know what some under 21 year olds can do given a chance. (for those with dodgy memories...... they can beat the pants off established stars).
  18. Here we go..... http://store.steampowered.com/app/348820
  19. Price for PC is £19.99 which is not bad. As Phil the Ace asked..... anyone downloaded it and tried it yet/???? Havnt a clue what graphics card in my All In One PC but it has a dual core i3 3.4ghz processor and 6gb ram so would hope the graphics are up to the job.
  20. I always rang to book our tickets. I have sat on the third bend and the fouth bend and had good views, depends what an individual wants.
  21. TWK, I am not on facebook, twitter or any other social media, just go to Belle Vue Speedway website (google it) and you get to see pictures of the "nice red shale" being laid.
  22. Manchester City Council have said the Sports Village will be an asset to the whole area. As said, its not just a speedway stadium. Man. City Council see a bigger picture, whereas it seems speedway supporters only see speedway.
  23. Taken straight from the speedwaygp.com web site, I found it very interesting. http://www.speedwaygp.com/news/article/4600/melbourne-time-lapse
