  1. I doing a similar thing with Plusnt, they offer BT Sport for £10 pm if you have Sky TV (basic tv is ok, dont need any extras). Plusnet BT Sport is a rolling contract so 30 days notice will be given so it finishes just after the Aussie GP.
  2. And I just tried it and ok - though due to my poor broadband speed I am having to runit at 360 but thats ok full screen on a 23" monitor. Noticed Krsoko had two starting gates in position, plus a guy wiping the muck of the outside vertical gate pole.
  3. Getting more then a bit boring now, we all know things haven't started right at the new stadium, but some are more looking at the future instead of harping on about the past which no one can do anything about.
  4. Do stock car racing meetings get postponed in wet weather as much as speedway, if at all? I dont know, I dont follow stock cars - boring. If SCR does not get postponed as much maybe its as much to do with the fact speedway is on 2 wheels, and stock cars crash a bit anyway so whats the difference.
  5. Don't forget it's Manchester City council that has the contract with the building contractors so BV will probably gain nothing from such a penalty clause.
  6. Really good to see speedway again. but the meeting was far from being a classic, some good races though. Last night I was reading the lead article in Backtrack magazine, the lead article re Joe Screen. In part, he was lamenting the old upright machines compared to the lay down machines where its no throttle or full throttle with no throttle control. Thats how I see Zmarzlick, not just last night but on other occassions. He is a very brave lad, no doubt about it, but to me he is hanging on to a rocket machine with no real finese. He will master the bike in time and no doubt be a contender for world titles for a good frew years, but I just wish we could go back in time and have the upright engines again - not a fan of these revvy modern bikes. Disappointed on Zagar, especially on his home track, Krsko is obviously not his favourite place but last night was a bigger disappointment. Once Doyle got going (third ride on) then he was impressive. Holder had a good night, but he seems reserved too many times, holding back - thoughts of injjuries and Darcys injury probably still playing on his mind and that may cost him a real chance of being Champ. Kildemand - always looks like a crash waiting to happen. May be me, but it seems riders hold back when they have PK around them. Same with fast freddie, rode well last night, but I have seen him chop across riders more then a few times, and I see riders are cautious when FF is about. Nicki was not the same after the crash - change of bike presumably. Tai was lacking fire, but no doubt he is happy with his effort at the start of the season. Watch the last couple frames of Selby - Fu snooker semi afterward and found that more nail biting at times, a real good match. Selby v Ding...... should be Ding to win fro what I seen.
  7. Just to add, that village I lived in, Partington, has some history. As me and my mates were doing the cycle speedway thing, another group of locals were doing there thing on big old motorbikes and destined to do much greater things..... Peter Collins, Dave and Chris Morton (remember Chris's book When the Can Runs Dry), Dave Trownson, Andy Reid and others to follow ie the rest of the Collins clan.
  8. Anyone doing a program???? Last year there were always 2 or 3 on the forum for print out.
  9. I lived on the edge of a village and there was some common land nearby, we used to go on our bikes, slosh water from a neaby brook onto this "corner", went flying at the corner and through into slides feet up style as if we were doing speedway. Another area and we had jumps so emulated scramble riders up in the air. Close to the end of 1963, Mum Dad and myself went with Bob Duckworth to a Manchester cycle speedway track, Carrs Wood, where Bob was presenting trophies. The programme for the day was advertising a junior league for the winter 63-64, so I went back to my village, got all the lads to work on making this track using crushed cinder type stuff from a top a good half mile away. using wheelbarrows we did enough to create the bends, the straights (too long) were grass. Mum made us race bibs, red and yellow vertical stripes, and away we went into the league...... coming last! That was the start and end of Partington Flyers, but most of the team signed up for the summer season with Belle Vue for 1964 and then Wilmslow Hammers in 1965 and on. All good fun. Only a few tracks then were really well constructed, Carrs Wood was one, Offerton Devils was another. Offerton had Derek Garnett and Vic Hinchcliffe who were nationally the riders to beat in the 60's and 70's. Some brilliant riders around the Manchester scene back then. Clips I now see on You Tube show the standard of the tracks and safety requirements far exceed those of the 60's - very professional now, and I would imagine top cycle speedway ridwers now are like top speedway riders (and other sportsman) - dedicated to the cause, manage not only the body but what one puts into the body etc.
  10. When you sent it you would have got a tracking number or system to follow..... does that actually show they got your refund claim?????? Or did you just send it normal post despite the advice given on this forum/thread?????
  11. If this is NOT true, then the poster deserves a ban. This thread is obviously very sensitive to many and comments like this, if not true, do not help at all.
  12. Add to the list Craven, Knutsson, Holder, Woffinden but take away Per Jonsson, J O Ermo, Ricky, Hamill, Crump that leaves me 2 behind you. I may have seen Tommy Price, Freddie Williams, Jack Young in my very young days but cant remember so they not included.
  13. As for the speedway gp season not now being shown on Eurosport, many different suggestions on how to get to see it, but as the tv rights was won by BT, and not being a fan of BT, I took my broadband/telephone contract to Plusnet (ok, I know a business linked to BT) knowing that they did an option of a monthly contract with BT tv sports viewing. That was back in November, I got 18 months broadband free (currently a deal available for 12 months free), just paying for tel line rental, and last Friday evening I ordered monthly viewing og BT Sport through Sky tv (which i already had) at £9.99 per month (monthly contract). Today BT Sport was added to my Sky tv viewing so I am set up for watching speedway gp live this Saturday evening. I will run it for 6 months which should see me through all the gps and euro championships.
  14. According to BV website, no match Wednesday 27th with Poole, but hey, the experts on this forum may be able to tell you different depending on what rumours may or may not be flying around.
  15. What is going to benefit British speedway the most? Tai probably winning another British title, or Tai spending some time helping to train British young riders? Obvious answer to me, probably not to most of the posters so far. My only grump is that he set an age limit of 21 - I just miss out by a few years lol. Notice he refers to "our country" as well. Notice no one has commented on Tai using Britain as "our country". And why shouldnt he charge for it - no doubt he will be having some expenses to cover.....and the benefit those in attendance will get from a Tai training session will far outway the costs of it. Now, another question, if Tai was to ride in the Elite this year ... do you think he would be holding training sessions as well (that is "as well" as league racing in Poland, Sweden, Denmark, plus GP's) Again I say, the benefit to young riders in Britain will be immense.
  16. and now the facts are known.... the moaning still goes on, does not surprise me one bit.
  17. If you remember , Humphrey, bends 3-4 were done in the last working days, as the contractors were moving backwards out of the stadium, and at the same time wanting to get the job done ready for the first meeting. Thats where this went wrong. In retrospect, carrying out the work over the winter period was always going to be problematic - who can predict the weather. As it was it was not so much a cold winter, but a wet one. Lesson to be learned, take note Swindon and Coventry!
  18. I think some of the earlier, and not so earlier, name calling of Dave Gordon and Chris Morton need to be retracted ie clowns etc. An apology would be in order I think. After all, how were they to now that the contractor had omitted it. Ont the contrary, good to know that someone had the insight to specify one into the specification. Well done whoever that was.
  19. If I read it right, Poole had a hole on one of its corners for more then a few meetings, yet riders put up with it. Why? It must have been seen a "home advantage" or Poole management would have dealt with it. So why did away riders put up with it?
  20. Think Bob Duckworth was a mechanic. And I think Ove Fundin had a family transport business.
  21. The ones who shout loudest often dampen the spirit of others who are usually quieter. Others then get overruled. Its just a theory I have but I cant prove it. I'm not saying there wasn't a problem with BV track, cause obviously there was (but not fully known at the time) I still cant understand why Warsaw was stopped by the riders, and comments on here indicate many cant understand why BV was stopped even before it started.
  22. Bit before my time, Gustix, and I only raced on one London track and that was in 1964 - Raynes Park. Rode in the National Junior team championship. Two Manchester teams, Hyde and Belle Vue. I rode for Belle Vue and despite being favourites we lost by 2 points. Straight after I rode in the junior individual championship and despite not being favourite I won it with 13 points, beating Chris Hunt of Wembly and Paul Rennie from Gorton Manchester - they were the two favourites..
  23. I still hold the view it was a conspiracy against either BV or "the establishment" by some of the riders. They did it in Warsaw last year and I reckon they done it again. I not heard one fan say the track looked unfit after the 20 laps test ride by the 16 riders, the only reports I have heard is that they were suprised the meeting was called off. If the riders are setting a standard they got to be consistant, and if they are consistant then some tracks are going to be in trouble and probably often.
  24. I will stand corrected (not going to pile through all the posts) but I think it passed a SCB inspection as per SCB stated above.
