The curfew is stupid i agree however the planning attempts have been questionable at best with repeated requests being made that ultimately have tested the patience of the council and allowed the meetings to digress into whether Speedway should run full stop which is obviously a huge risk to even allow. Its not the first or last time dirty tricks will be used to the benefit of a team by abusing the curfew all the while it remains in place. I suspect Tom Spencer was likely under some level of instruction to be the villain this time as he had already made friends at Kent by spearing Dan Gilkes into the fence writing off both bikes (fortunately a whip round was held for Spencer afterwards and the full £4.50 was raised to replace his machinery) there is no doubting that the NL is a place for riders to enhance their skills but i do question the basic levels that should be required other than just speed.

  6. I think there are several other fringe riders that are wary or becoming wary of accepting guest rides. I can't blame Jacob as he had an extended run but should have bailed out or got a solid agreement earlier. He should be ok as the rule will probably be scrapped over the winter.
  7. The reason as you stated why the jump can be too far is because the diversity within CL teams. There are PL standard heat leaders going to the line with riders who have just made the step up. There needs to be a closer level across all leagues, put 2 teams of riders out where the averages don't have such a wide variance and the unpredictable racing results will come. If this means that the CL has to follow suit to the NL where the standard of doubling up rider is curtailed then so be it.
  8. I actually think there is some truth in that. Riders are required to have the right engines for the right tracks now and those that don't will noticeably suffer. Because the way that bikes are also ridden any mistake during 4 laps and its virtually impossible to make ground due to the others opening such a large gap.

Im not going to disagree about the reserve rider ruling and it would make more sense to take a 5th team member but as per the regs it was any rider under 3.00, as per the green sheets Jacob Clouting is in the 1-7 and only gets an average of 3.16 effective today. There is definitely a difference in travelling to a meeting to watch and travelling with bikes, getting setup, changed in the heat when the chances of getting a ride are slim. As for penny pinching im not sure if any meeting is deemed more or less important than the other but Kent opted not to book a guest at number 1 when they travelled to Plymouth for the NT at the start of the season and it cost them with a zero return from R/R.
  10. Probably. Maybe fixed heats need to come into play for the reserves? However then there will be mass of 2 min exclusions so that would need tightening up on. What we have currently though is the better reserve taking the easier rides whilst the other struggles, drops confidence, gets 3 rides a night and falls away. Whilst the system is great for survival of the fittest do we have enough riders to be this ruthless?
  11. For that may i offer my personal thanks. Whilst easily overlooked a succession of small meaningful actions can often have a greater long term positive impact on the sport.
  12. Its not so much the increase in circulation but the maintaining of current subscribers. The issue with the publication is that it has to cater to such a broad audience. I personally want the inclusion of grasstrack & development league information to continue and could live without ice racing, czech speedway news or readers letters for example however im certain that there must be others that do have interest in these sections. Often the biggest selling point of the star (namely how diverse it is) can also be its greatest undoing.
  13. The results were featuring within the Speedway Star along with an occasional brief write up. I don't think any rider or promoter from these leagues expected any more than that but to be dropped inexplicably seems a bit off to me. Everyone has their different opinions and i fully respect that however just because you have never seen or have any awareness of the leagues existence shows that you are another on the blinkered masses. The minority sector as you call it has given opportunities to a great many riders pre-dating its current structure. The options are to either embrace and encourage the future or hope that the current crop of riders will be able to carry on as the number of clubs reduces until we are left with a few part time weekend leagues.

Probably harsh on clubs as some are very supportive, some have been but no longer choose to be and some just outright refuse to accept that anything other than the league they are within is the best and have a blinkered view of the sport other than the current season. Its not only the notable riders who have progressed through the development leagues but those that enhanced their standard, therefore pushing the standard of others up, everything in the sport has a knock on effect. Sadly the lower leagues are weaker at present (partly due to limited opportunities) and that reflects across the sport in the UK as a whole but sadly so few see it.
  15. The problem that the MSDL faces on a daily basis is the snobby attitude that commentators like you hold against it. Just because the league is of a lower standard does it mean it has to be treated as an inferior or less valid product? Only recently there was unfair criticism levied against the NL and the support for it was over whelming. Many many riders compete in the development leagues and have progressed through to full time team places to great acclaim, however the league faces opposition at every turn (clubs, promotions, BSPA) the very same people who moan that the future of the sport is in jeopardy.
  16. I have to say its been a bug bear of mine for a long time, either switch one of the rides so the 6 races other reserves 3 times rather than twice and the 7 gets a reserve in every ride. Or force the higher averaged reserve to ride at 6.

Nobody will argue that adding Sam to the side is going to make it stronger especially when removing the inconsistent swedes but now the Monarchs have a longer tail than Eastbourne and for all the effort that they may put in Marson is not a NL heatleader & in not really sure what Willie Lawson is but he is now a main body rider in the Champs!.
  18. Definitely hard on Clouting, shown glimpses of what he can do, last season he would have easily picked up another place but with the bases limit dropped from 3.00 to 2.00 it looks tougher? Progress huh. One final piece of fortune for Kent is that Ledwith's average has changed prior to his injury lay off so better options to cover for him.
  19. Did Kent have the option to take their 5th best rider or eligible reserve like the other teams? I believe the choice was to not take one as the reserves require expenses paid just like a competing rider. Once agiain it bit Kent when penny pinching but it wasn't their day anyway. Well done Stoke, commiserations IOW and great effort Mildenhall.

Probably right about the facebook page (as could be said about most teams) i just feel its a shame that the Ukrainian league or USA div 2 gets coverage and yet a UK based league that is designed for British rider development (however flawed or mistreated it may be) has been omitted completely.
  21. Don't debate that but its a riders choice if they wish to participate in racing or not. Far to often the peripheral clubs like Plymouth get partial visiting teams due to excuses.
