Of the above im glad Clouting has got a place as he deserves a decent run and Gilkes despite his average will benefit from another year of additional track time. Mulford earnt his place with previous showings and hopefully has had time to sort out some decent bikes. Bursill has had several chances and gone nowhere so this year looks make or break and warren is nowhere near the NL weakened level and lacks the basics that will keep him and others safe, i don't blame him for taking a place thats been offered (although it could tarnish his record longer term) i blame Len & Chris for tracking the rider in the first place. I bet James Laker is fuming & quite frankly Rhys Laker could be a bit upset.

Looking further ahead once this season has completed the heat leader level riders will all likely end on averages that would prevent them from being sensibly sign able for next year (unless the points limit is made higher again). This will lead to one of two scenarios teams will be built of 2 high averages and the rest new 3 pointers with a lot of the current new crop cast aside or the new riders with falsely inflated averages will start to form the new heat leaders and so the standard diminishes. If a rider in the MDL achieves and 8 point average it does not make him/her a guaranteed NL rider and yet if you fill a league with MDL level riders you will get some of these becoming 8 point NL riders. Diluting the standard doesn't mean they will be any better it just makes the numbers worthless. This is all heading towards the meetings not having the merit to justifiably run as a sole event and will all end up double headers, if more teams are included (mandated or otherwise) it will be reduced to 4 rider teams to accommodate and finally the Premier(&Championship) Junior League will be born.

Must have jumped to league winners Eastbourne

My complaints are about the calibre of riders offered opportunities (see kents new signings) there are riders who have busted a gut for years and are far better who get dropped or ignored. Yes there is deadwood that needs chopping out but a league of heat leaders and reserves with no middle ground is short sighted. All change again next year

No personal offence to Josh Warren but he is miles off weakened NL level. Just shows if you have useful mates abilty doesn't matter.

As my opinions are no longer considered part of debate or interest to the blinkered many i wont bother anymore. Speedway can poke it

Except that in the two higher divisions the clubs aren't reliant on only 6 home meetings to sustain themselves and any club entering teams in multiple leagues get a reduction in rates for the second team (a luxury IOW wouldn't have been afforded). Ultimately the higher clubs conspired to generate a weaker NL for the benefit of themselves and the 2nd teams they wished to enter, were IOW excluded from these discussions because they would have heavily objected? certainly. Were IOW right to withdraw from the BSPL? certainly. Will the NDL be a viable product in 5 years time? Unlikely.

Very harsh on Chattin. Not seen any evidence that Trigger is ready to make the jump from 125's to 500's both physically and mentally but i hope he proves me wrong. A lot fresh riders into the league this year and those who looked to be ready for improvement are being pushed aside, Chattin will have to be patient in case a mid season place opens up but at 22 is he really considered over the hill now.

Clouting looking for a team place so wholesale changes are occurring. Shame for Jacob as he deserved a decent run in the team.

Based upon the MDL averages and riders who have never had a full time team spot the following could all hold their own in the current league and most are higher average rated than others either signed for this season or previous ones. James Laker, Chris Watts, Saul Bulley, Danny Woodward, Luke Muff and James Chattin

Leek was signed, then stated he needed sponsorship to compete so was released. The other reserve was never decided before the pandemic took hold. Don't know if there are any emerging riders from the area but Butcher might earn another go? Grasstrackers might be less keen on a Sunday track and would be crazy to invest in kit the required kit for such a short season.
-
Genuine question is Matt Marson in the UK or AUS at the moment? I think Leek didn't have enough money to go racing but maybe a short season would help?
-
I feel Harris is unlikely but equally it would be foolish to release Spooner without a replacement in mind / lined up unless there are multiple changes which again feels unlikely. I guessing as IOW have only just withdrawn it won't be Campos, King and Wirtzfeld deserve a chance somewhere but given the other teams maybe Kent will be bold an add another 3.00 pointer
-
IOW have withdrawn from the BSPL and therefore cannot run in the league. Roughly translated as we don't agree with the way you are running the NDL and want no part of your tyrannical rule. More will come out in the wash but IOW view speedway as a product across the leagues and not just about success for their own club/finances. Even purely based on this season they would face pulling apart the team they built whilst a lot of replacement options have been snapped up, paying the various licences and insurances for a much shorter and uncertain season, relying on being able to secure sponsorships from company's likely struggling due to the pandemic, the list of reasons for any team not to run is quite compelling but i still think the reasons are deeper and more long term.
-
That team would take some stopping too be fair and looks much stronger than anything built so far. Not sure if the bridges are still burned for Harris as Len doesn't forgive easily and was upset when Luke declined to be a club asset.
-
Yeah ive heard several threats regarding Lydd without any action but there was an amateur league that was due to run out of Eastbourne a few years back under a different banner but riders were told they would be suspended if they took part so it never got off the ground. Being enforceable isn't always required just the threat to many who wouldn't be able to afford to take the governing body to court over it can be enough.

Lawlor at Leicester? Smith has really gone off the boil. I agree and dont see many benefits for Clegg. The Stoke links have plenty of push for both team places but im not sure how long Alcock will remain protected.
-
Personally id look at hosting challenge matches against ex/ghost teams, the individuals/pairs events they normally hold plus practice days. But the BSPL could get petty and stop license holders from riding (done multiple times before). Alternatively the short track fraternity might be getting very excited right now.
-
That might explain it looks good when out front but doesn't mix it as well in a pack / tight first corner.
-
Dont feel sad for IOW i suspect they could emerge from this stronger and more free of the BSPL shackles.
-
This is where we have some level of agreement. No riders should have 3 spots and there should be caps on top averages allowed at both NL and CL level. Its clear there will be more opportunities for riders emerging now, great for those heading in and a couple of slow burners will ultimately benefit. Its a brutal sport and there are plenty of good riders who dont get chances and lesser ones who get repeat chances.
-
I dont claim the M/SDL are the saviours of speedway in fact in recent years some of the riders on display have done the league more harm than good. Its easy to argue the merits and clauses of the MSDL and the NJL and clear we will never agree which is a better product. What i do echo is that all track time is hugely important, all tracks that host it deserve success and the volunteers are incredible.
-
With respect you are in full support as the path suits your own family agenda. If things change in a year or so would you remain so supportive? There is no doubt that IF the rising star system remains then clubs will need to show a bigger interest in developing quality riders than they have in recent years be that on thier own or forming club alliances. But if the standard isnt maintained the gap between the leagues will only grow.
-
Hopefully Mildenhall can run some challenges/ individuals to fill out the fixture list and generate income. I wonder if thier fees have been reduced to accommodate ? I genuinely believe the BSPL cares not for the lower leagues and has proven once again that they view them as 2nd best. With NDL gone fans would be forced to follow a higher level or walk away.

Excellent intelligent Promotion removed check, ghost teams closed down check. NL and MDL on its knees check. Lower leagues almost ruined so fans forced to view higher league speedway....mission accomplished
