  1. Whilst i agree that is one of the leagues primary objectives creating a system where everyone ups thier average and therefore "improves" is like school sports days where everyone is a winner. What about the idea that riders have to be good enough first and then take the chances that come thier way? This all inclusive idea could produce a conveyor belt of riders under prepared for higher leagues and generate a far greater divide between the ability of UK riders vs the rest of the world.
  2. Quite likely much like id imagine Palin doesn't want to talk about the meeting much.
  3. At Berwick x1, at Leicester x4, at Newcastle x 8 (although 4 was same person). A rider making his Debut at Newcastle scored 5+3 just by staying aboard and picking up scraps. Im not saying there isn't racing and passes taking place because that isn't true but in the majority its because the lesser riders hop out of the start and then get passed by the better quality riders. Looking at next season these lesser quality riders will still be signed as 2nd strings and even 3rd heat leaders with new rookies coming in. Wind forward a year or two and the likes of Watson or Rothery could have averages that force them to be number 1's but will they have improved enough to be of similar standard to what Flint or Bickley are now? If yes then the system works but if the more likely no then there is an even poorer product attempting to be sold to the public.
  4. Bates "should" be destroying the averages but has been very poor thus far and being shown up by riders really grabbing the chance. Brennan has been unlucky not have more points and been very competitive and Rowe showing his class by opting out of the scheme and doing his own thing....certainly did Rob Lambert no harm
  5. Meeting of the two surprise packages with Berwick over achieving and Leicester under thus far. Was still a meeting of multiple fallers and two races in one. Faller stats from Newcastle are far worse. Dont forget that the reduced limit is only having a lesser effect this year, with inflated averages the league will be a whole lot worse next season.
  6. In the flesh no but what does that matter? If i hadnt seen Woffy ride in the flesh id still know he is a top level rider (i have obviously) all evidence ive seen is that his gating is below par and a track like Plymouth that spells trouble.
  7. Hope Gilkes gets a run out. Might be Drews home track but Anders and Dan are the riders in form
  8. Lynn finally sign the right rising star. Good Luck Connor, plenty of Proctors rides there to be taken
  9. Combine of both. Heard from a good source that his continental form from 2019 was patchy and U21 events competed in aren't full of points scored. Obviously that was 2 years ago so i do accept the chance to improve but all examples of races ive seen him in his gating isnt up to scratch. Might be tempted to have a look when Plymouth visit Eastbourne if he is still in the team at the end of July
  10. Time will tell but he didn't do much at Plymouth either and those performances are far more important
  11. Great move would be if its a replacement for Goret
  12. In all honesty if you pay your money you could run a match at scunny between the Godfrey Gits and BSPL bellenders if you wanted too
  13. Tom is great. Attitude, personality, equipment hes got everything except a little bit of luck. Every time he hits a run of form he gets held back by injuries. A little bit of luck and can see even bigger improvements from him.
  14. Yet another example of idiocy by the governing bodies. If speedway was considered a sport as a whole by all promotions rather than their personal interests then we would be in a far greater place. Additional laps for NL grade riders can only be a benefit to their own NDL teams, a well run production engaging existing a new fans is a benefit to the sport as a whole. The IOW haven't pitched up next to an existing track and are trying to take away business, they are not trying to harm the sport in any way in fact they are trying to help it grow. If a rider doesn't fancy a night on the Island due to whatever reason then fine but at least give them the option.
  15. Yes riders can at times have a prima donna streak but prep the track so there is no debates. A small soft patch or wetter areas than others won't stop riders taking to the track it will just cause them to grumble a bit. If the track was "slushy" as listed on the statement then the away team had every right to complain as the watering had gone badly wrong and in fairness would have been entirely evident at 5pm 6pm and so on so why was it left until prior to the start to try and resolve it? As earlier posters have stated if a track isn't in a raceable agreed condition 30minutes after the agreed start time then the match should be abandoned, full refunds issued and the paying public not left woefully short changed
  16. "illness" is the given reason. Obviously can happen but feels a touch weak
  17. Spot on and nailed one of the biggest issues with the sport. UK speedway is run by individuals with self interests only rather than promoting the sport as whole and adhering to a base level of acceptability. Fortunately we are blessed with many clubs who go above and beyond this but their efforts are wasted every time there is a farcical performance by another promotion and what upsets fans most is poorly considered excuses (and Rogers is full of them) If Brum came out and said we have made a mess of the track prep this afternoon but we are trying to put it right some fans might have taken it a little better, delays are annoying but lies are unacceptable
  18. Feel sorry for fans kept waiting around and 2nd halfers who must be thoroughly cheesed off
  19. I think thats where Eastbourne have got it right with Laurence in the team. Whilst he may not double his average he won't throw many silly point away like other less experienced and over excited riders. Mildenhall were in a similar position with Butcher until he bust his elbow at the weekend.
  20. The duck at P'boro certainly seems the anomaly rather than the norm and thus far Bjarne seems an excellent addition to the leagues. With the greatest of respect to him he is 42 years old and the weather was pretty toasty for the double header....maybe two meetings in a day were just a bit much for him?
  21. Its no secret that every extra lap is a benefit but there are just as many riders with lesser track time over the 'closed' season who are doing well. These riders are those who have gone the extra bit to pick up some laps where they can and/or have the bonus of natural talent to carry them through. Not everyone is being held to the same levels of expectation and its certainly naïve to think that a couple of good early meetings equals a whole seasons success or failure but with a reduced fixture list hitting the ground running early is critical.
  22. Thinking very much the same thing, very odd choice. Gaters paradise so picking Heeps..... I know its in the rules but doesnt feel right that a home team can use a tactical sub. Plymouth picked wisely with thier guest and saved thier blushes but Goret must be a huge concern.
  23. Whilst i admit its been more difficult than normal there have certainly bern plenty of chances for riders to get laps in and i dont accept that anyone in a team and serious about keeping it should be taking to the track for the first time in 18months. That said i do accept that race rust is very much an element for some riders but there are lads with experience getting outshone by those having a taste of league racing for the first time.
