BERWICK v OXFORD (NDL) Saturday, April 9th (7pm)
Sings4Speedway replied to crescent girl's topic in National League Speedway
Fully aware of what standards to expect and to compare againstbother riders/teams of similar levels over the years. Im always happy to be proven wrong. Id love to see Clouting really kick on to the next level this year. Killeen could easily be a sensation but there have been just as many failures as success stories over the years hence the question marks. -

The Oxford side is an odd mixture. Hagon and Killeen could be two of the hotter young talents but i have serious question marks over both. Clouting and Butcher have been slow and steady the past few years whilst Stoneman and Hopwood are the opposite fast but crash prone. Looks a team that will have strong days and self destruct days too. -
From what ive seen around the amateur meetings hes done over the past couple of seasons no. Certainly quick enough and looks to be enjoying himself which is probably more than could be said when he was league racing. Would need a hefty sponsor to come on board i think to mount any serious full time return to a sport in such a precarious postion.

Armadale Devils v Berwick Bullets
Sings4Speedway replied to Al Stewart's topic in National League Speedway
Curious fixture with a strong Berwick team who line up probably improved on last season when they almost took the title. Home advantage will be key and a second fixture 24 hours later for the Bullets might see a touch of caution employed. Looking forward to seeing how Pijper Jnr gets on. -
So far announced i believe its Ablitt, Hagon, Spencer, Trigger, Foord and Kingston. Heard rumours of Jenkins but nothing confirmed as yet. Strong looking side but thats the benefit of fantasy speedway teams.

Birmingham v Poole Championship. 13/04/22
Sings4Speedway replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Feel like the Pirates will hot 50 again. Re-laid track at Brum takes away any home advantage and rider for rider Poole just look better. Morris aside have any of the Brum team given a decent account of themselves yet? A run of tough opposition is only going to darken the mood around Perry Barr -

Interesting looking match up and whilst one fixture doesn't make a season it does offer a decent indication. The Oxford side look good on paper with the reduced averages of the returnees Whilst the Bullets have plenty of home track knowledge and a couple of bargains in Crang and Blair. I think it should go to the home side but by just how much will depend upon luck and if Killeen gets his passport in time. -
1. Blair - 7.57 2. Spooner - 6.40 3. Ablitt - 6.29 4. Coles - 6.04 5. Crang - 6.41 6. King - 3.67 7. Trigger - 3.57 Total 39.95

I built mine based upon the points limit for this year and that last seasons was 35 so teams were built to that...other than that only rule i remember is no more than two riders from 1 team? But the mighty Islander15 gets final say as its their game.

Plymouth v Poole KO Cup 1st leg 5/4/22
Sings4Speedway replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Any sceptic (me included) is thinking that if Kennett does line up for the first meeting it will be the only time. Now mouths have been opened would the mafia allow it to happen when its pretty clear its a dodgy deal. -
Has to be a limit surely? The league has started and yet the team isn't announced. If a rider is signed declare them if not be honest....
-
Definitely some early season rust/jitters from Plymouth and doubt many teams will come away with any points. As with most teams they look class when going well but wheels can easier come off. The Royals showed strength in depth really does count. Nice to see them off to a positive start to the season.

Redcar v Newcastle Tyne Tees Trophy 25/03/22
Sings4Speedway replied to Yearbyred's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
BWD shouldn't be taking several meetings to get the better of second strings. Reserves fair enough but need to find some hefty improvement. Whilst away meetings aren't where points will come for the Diamonds its going to need to be a massively improved home performance if thos season is to last the distance -
Redcar v Newcastle Tyne Tees Trophy 25/03/22

Certainly a good early benchmark for the reserves with the Redcar pairing probably the lowest combined averages in the league (but certainly capable) against the new and returning Diamonds pair. Also intrigued to see how BWD copes as a number 1? personally i think he has what it takes but a lot will depend on him this year. -
Plymouth Gladiators 2022
Sings4Speedway replied to jbell1995's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Plymouth are strong enough to cover for Kennett with R/R or guests. The issue is that they made the announcement and the the replacement back tracked. Should have got the signing sorted before announcing Eddis is stepping down. He just needed to do the first meeting and the a facility would have been granted..... -
Not that ive been thinking about this......much 1. Blair - 7.57 2. Spooner - 6.40 3. Ablitt - 6.29 4. Coles - 6.04 5. Crang - 6.41 6. King - 3.67 7. Trigger - 3.57 Total 39.95

Season rapidly approaching is Islander happy to run this again?
-
Hodder must have made huge strides since i last saw him if he warrants two mentions by you and to be far more impressive than one of Aussies highest regarded youngsters i look forward to big things this season.

Which is why as a whole the RS system was always farcical and destined to failure. It was hailed an initial "success" because there was a crop of riders ready to make the step up (and by fortune the promotions managed to get these riders at a cheap rate rather than let them haggle out their own deals). Now the CL doesn't need/fancy the next crop coming through they have closed the doors leaving instead the RS at PL level by name only but in reality its a place for a home grown star which the Continental major leagues have been doing for years.
-
Imports will always happen but the worrying figure is no new Brits into the CL this year. How could the PL get any stronger? It is a financial struggle as it is. Unless Sweden goes pop and riders want to return the level will maintain but at least the calibre of riders is closer. The spread of rider levels in the CL from top to bottom has been vast for the past few seasons. Its only closed up a bit this year as the lack of heat leaders available means that the reserves signed by most teams are 4ish pointers rather than 2.00 making it more of a closed shop and harder to break in.
-
You could also add that there are zero new British riders into the CL this year. Potentially Ablitt but he had been signed to Eastbourne before it went belly up. The plan was a long term conveyor belt offering chances to graduating riders instead its back to the usual with overseas untried imports and no vision of a long term plan.
-
Teams from whispers do seem a bit better than initially thought although these are still NL second strings/reserves and the number 8. Still some clubs struggling to get riders interested though.
-
I don't believe that Jake didn't get offered opportunities at NL and CL level but clearly terms couldn't be agreed. Now looks out in the cold after a very brief burst of flame.
-
IF it happens....it would only be 3 PJL home meetings and potentially an extra PJL play off later in the season. Im sure there have been a few approaches to riders but im yet to be convinced that the teams are finalised yet or even close to it. Edit even got that wrong 2 groups of 3 would be 2 home 2 away and potential play off. Im sure the riders are queueing up for 4 extra midweek matches

Number 8 for each team and Junior League
Sings4Speedway replied to Flappy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I feel like we are getting off track and potentially agreeing with the same thing? The likely team make up is going to be 1 x 4 star rider then 3 x 1 star riders (be they 15 or otherwise) . Sadly even with some highly talented youngsters its still likely to be diverse in levels of ability.
