  1. Jacks a rider that a year or two ago was struggling to land a ride at CL and now looks a decent capture (bit like Hume or Mountain in the recent past) plenty of 8 point returns and heat 1 victories.
  2. Big ask for Mason to improve upon 4.41. That said i never thoughtbhe would get within a point of his season ending average so what do i know.
  3. Have to admit im underwhelmed by McGurks. Belle Vue let them slip away for a reason. Probably the worst away riders id seen all year but equally got averages for a reason and if looked after could be useful additions but can't help feeling they could be the undoing of a good side.
  4. There's a lot to be said about keeping the home fans happy, after all they are what keep the venture afloat. Trophies and league success are always a bonus but exciting home wins keep the gates open.
  5. The big problem is could you genuinely recommend to anyone with kids to get them a speedway bike and into the sport? Ever increasing costs and regulations with ever decreasing venues to ride/practice and find out if they even like it / are any good at it. Fortunately there is an emerging crop on the 125's but its going to be a good while before they are league age and what state will the sport be in then. How can any parent look at something seriously if there are big question marks over its existence in 15 years time.
  6. Its been a farce for years really that Brits especially those on a 3.5-5 point CL average struggle to get places whilst there is always a string of Aussies signed up (with all the additional costs associated) if only a little of that funding was sprinkled around the Brits perhaps there would be a bit more progression.
  7. As much as i like Max im not really sure how a rider who would have clocked 12.00 bar following home a team mate once is going to land a team place, its just too big a chunk of points used. Personally i think it would be nice to restrict the use of riders on high averages (to force rider progression up through and out the NDL) no 9+ riders for example but average manipulation would likely go crazy. My bigger hope is that Max lands a CL place as him missing out there after a strong finish with Leicester would be especially harsh.
  8. With such a short season ahead signing a team that is already so dialled in at home is huge. Plenty of improvers throughout the side also. Is another year in the NDL going to do either Thompson anything extra? The debate will always rage on but whilst the rules allow and the points limit has been raised again they get another few sharpeners. Sadly the lack of competing teams dulls the enthusiasm especially if 4 from 6 will get play off spots anyway.
  9. Working on the assumption of Dan and Coles stepping out with Boughen it leaves 8.7 for the final rider but with limited options i can see this team being built a couple of points under. The talents are certainly there but with each carrying a bit more pressure and a little less assistance in camp it could prove a tougher year for the Cubs.
  10. Kelly at reserve on a 3.30 looks a bit of a bargain considering he has been a near 5 point rider in the past, just need to sort out what has caused the form slide and perhaps feeling part of a team will sort that? As for the predicted side above it would be decent enough at home but would all hinge on getting the McGurks going there and away would raise a few question marks. Certainly looks solid throughout but would have question marks if it was tight at the end of a match.
  11. Think Watts wins that vote amongst both riders and fans. Swap Ablitt for Tom Woolley and it would create a strong unit as well as a competitive one.
  12. Alcock nailed on, King and Morley likely as others have covered. Danno retired, Halder and Woods highly unlikely so straight scrap between Bowtell, Woolley and Watts. Alfie is the obvious pick but Sam was the management favourite all year. To be fair the side did incredibly well considering the loss of/lack of a 3rd heat leader all season coupled with some managerial bloopers along the way. I hope that the 4 are actually signed up or negotiations and the Xmas party are going to be awkward.
  13. When Kent ran at Central Park they got noise complaints weekly even on rain off fixtures and throughout the winter! I wish Greg and the consortium all the best with thier efforts, certainly no lack of funds or enthusiasm i just hope they don't get too carried away without some sensible planning.
  14. Feel it needs to be a Bewley size void at 2. Love Alfie but i can see half the team heading to him for advice. Consistency is not a word you can attach to any rider so shock away wins may occur but equally a few thumping home defeats.
  15. Lets be honest Luke is one of the most influential signings of the winter, the signature every team wanted so expectation is now on Worky to deliver the rest of the side to match.
  16. Under the limit and a dangerous potential side. Limited improvement from Joe T and Coles (who is riding at Berwick sat nights so feels unlikely?). Spencer seems to ramp his average up early and yet always finish the season on an appealing sub 6 figure.
  17. Definitely daft. Either green on the rules or team place already secured for 2023 regardless of average. Arguments for both sides rider development on one side vs meetings being affected on the other. Jody Scott signed for Oxford on 3.00 and the day after saw his averge double (genius signing).
  18. No such thing as an NDL 2.00er (or at least not this year) the difference between the number 7 choice is the difference between a strong play off side and another team that gets consistent away maulings. As ever though plenty of home track experts that are already well dialled in at NSS.
  19. Because on paper they look red hot mustard at home just as they did this season. Tripe away and that would also likely continue. Certainly not saying they will win a bean but the majority would still rank them top side "on paper"
  20. All looks well on paper but once Mulford has a couple of 3 ride nights the mood in camp will change. Im with the Shanes weak link camp and once he drops to reserve its a poor trapping 6&7. That said if all riders click this team will dish out some hammerings both home and away.
  21. Sat afternoon is still tough with Grasstrack Sundays. Belle Vue can remove Mulford, re-sign the remaining 6 plus a new 3 pointer and still start favourites.
  22. Last time Scunny went searching the came up with Jedd List.......
  23. Another northern track opening (especially running on a weekend daytime) is always going to a lure to riders. Throw in that Armadale isn't everyone favourite track and uncertainty over its future it will always be tricky to put a side together at the start BUT there will be plenty of riders on the phone once a few spits at other tracks start filling up.
  24. Nailed It! IOW promote the club for its own best interests running on days and peak times that will generate the best crowds, putting on events that generate the most interest, not just on the night but across a season. They also run events that suit the track they have. Mildenhall can produce some incredible racing when the track is predictable its possible to watch 4 riders throw bikes at each other lap after lap and cross the line almost together (however when its patchy and unpredictable then the incessant number of fallers and delays is tiresome for many). As with everything at present the costs are going to be the decisive factor, if the stadium is available for X dates at the right rent then calculations could be done to run a 3/4TT, individuals, pairs, challenge matches or whichever at any riding level the club chooses under NORA........but it will all be down to cost.
  25. I often think the benefit of doubling up at the same track loses some of the benefits especially tracks that host a lot of double headers as the sharpening NDL meeting takes place after the main CL meeting and when the rider is already a bit knackered so midweek doubling up for Stoneman/Coles would be a big benefit (if their equipment can stand up to the rigours of it all)
