  1. Personally I think it should be left where it is. There is an obsession with bringing youngsters into the sport asap rather than letting them develop until they are ready and perhaps prolonging careers. There are already too many wind it flat out and hang on riders in the league already without encouraging more by dropping the age limits. Then there is the legal and moral issues. On track all riders are adults. If for example a 23 year old rider dives under a 14 year old and knocks him off is the reaction going to be worse than a hard dive under another 23 year old? What if it was the other way round? Inevitably somewhere tempers will flare. I remember on the grass a few years ago there was an incident where an adult rider and a 15 year old had words after a race and the police were called due to threatening a minor I believe?
  2. Its all down to the match at Brum but with Spiller at reserve and RR I think you might just pinch it? Early in the season the likes of Waj, Wood and Perks were clearing up at reserve but now have proper averages but Spiller is better than them all and on a 3 pointer so should swing the balance. For number of appearances / performances the BWD is right up there but personally I rate Ellis & Brandford higher although they haven't been available as often.
  3. Great meeting and the score line certainly doesn't reflect the close racing and effort from both sides. Spiller looks a class act, far more mature than his years and a huge determination to win, plus with Marc Owen some of the best team riding you will see. Hopwood bigger but better than ever, BWD giving it his all in a beaut of a race with Shanes & Owen who looked woeful early on really turned it around. Ben & James showed their quality yet again & Aaron chipped in useful points. Danny was far smoother tonight but didn't gate that well although up against some strong competition & I thought Jamie was the fastest ive ever seen him in a Kings jacket. Reserves had shockers though but even without mechanicals wouldn't have got near Spiller & co. All in all an enjoyable nights racing, good to see plenty of Eastbourne fans making the trip & my first proper look at the rider with the most potential in the NL.
  4. IF that is the case then fair enough although making him captain might have been a mistake in the first place as he lacks any level of diplomacy or communication skills that aren't swearing or grunting. Truly shocking if that is correct. Barred from the stadium that is practically the second family home & speedway training / practice plays second fiddle to the new guys own personal playground. Fingers crossed he won't be involved with the sport for long!
  5. Hope slugger gets a nice warm welcome from the Kent fans! Fingers crossed Baseby gets the better of him all night and we see another strop. Whilst head says Eastie for this one heart says Kent. If Ben continues his awesome form, Danny cuts the stupid mistakes out and james does what he does best we could sneak something. Yes Spiller could be the trump card at reserve but if Basford can get something from Dugard hopefully it could be tight.
  6. Pity Chessell wasn't kicked out of the stadium for good. The guy is a chump. Looking forward to him getting a warm reception at Kent tonight As for the disharmony that is a huge shame as Andrew has done a great job this season with a team on the up so if the higher management is spoiling it then that would be a huge shame. Also the back bone of Rye House for years has been the training schools so if they have been lost it would be a huge shame. Heard a rumour at Mildy yesterday that Danyon had broken his wrist? Hope that isn't the case as many have said very entertaining to watch and very nice lad.
  7. IMO the long stroke would be absolutely fine for a beginner. They tend to respond and pull better when knocking the throttle off and then back on like you will be doing when you start riding whereas to get the best from a short stroke they really need to be held flat out all the way round. Ultimately both will be fine so buy whatever your budget permits as it is easy to over stretch yourself with speedway. (oh and if it makes you feel better I saw Tai Woffenden selling a longstroke over the winter so if its good enough for him.....)
  8. Should be an excellent meeting especially with a Raiders team growing with confidence. Key factors for me are Is Brandford riding? Who will guest for Wood? and possibly the meeting deciding factor how much will R/R bring Eastbourne? I predict big things for Spiller but not necessarily in his first meeting.
  9. Outstanding signing. The kid has bags of class and top drawer machinery. I thought he might have been kept under wraps until next season but if Kelsey wants a break its a top signing. Andrews should be back for you soon which is another major plus. Your final puzzle pieces are how long is Georgie out for and can Bates sort himself out?
  10. Going to stick my neck on the line as I have such a good record of Birmingham based predictions. Morris, Bates, Ellis, Morley in that order.
  11. Very much an entertaining match through some good (at times astounding) racing and some sheer comedy. Ben Morley continues his sublime form and led by example being headed once all night by the very fast Liam Carr. James had a good night but always struggles in ht11? as once the outside has been watered during the interval there isn't the grip to pull off his sweeping passes and Aaron was solid as ever and has really shored up the previously leaky heat 8. Danny is back into do or die mode and is throwing away silly points but was very quick when upright. Jamie had a shocker and will do well to put last night behind him. Adam showed his frustrations at being left out of a ride and when being passed by a hard but fair move did nothing to enhance his poor relationship with the crowd or referee. Finally Ben Basford who has his best night for the Kings by a mile and by getting a run in the side has shown more improvement than all of the reserves put together. For the visitors Carr was excellent. Wooley looks like a speedway rider these days despite his odd style. Atkin looked a shadow of his former self and I thought Holt deserved a little more than his score for pure effort and always being in the mix. Ultimately Buxton deserved their point and the Kings deserved to hang on for the win.....just
  12. For all the previous jokes about Dry House they also ran Sunday afternoon with very little dust and a slickly run meeting. So despite being difficult it is possible to run on sunny afternoons without issue. That said there is no better surface than a cloudy evening.
  13. Birmingham are champions. Their biggest challenge would be how to not finish top. I would say that it would be a huge achievement if Rye House finished 4th behind the power 3.
  14. Imperious Raiders and both Ben & Kyle were first class. Reserves were also good for their returns and if Chessell can calm down and stop chasing the wide (too wide) line they are in very good shape. Not much resistance from and under performing (all season) Mildenhall. In contrast the Raiders should be higher up the table IMO and with the matches in hand and team gelling well look to be serious top 4 contenders. Special mention to the infamous Rye House track. Despite a very hot day there was little dust. Pre planned track work at set times kept the surface as good as ive ever seen it. Think there was one race where it was a little wet and greasy but the rest produced a good surface and think I will definitely be back for NL @ Rye.
  15. Crazy Prediction. 2 leagues only next year. PL: Glasgow, Edinburgh, Rye House, Sheffield, Plymouth, Ipswich, Newcastle, P'Boro, Somerset, Leicester, Poole, K.Lynn, Belle Vue, Swindon, Wolves, Coventry? = 16 (15 without Cov) NL: Berwick, Redcar, Scunny, Workington, Lakeside, Birmingham, Cradley, Eastbourne, Rye House, Kent, Mildenhall, Stoke, Buxton, K.Lynn? , Coventry? = 15 (13 Without K.Lynn & Cov)
  16. Make or break weekend for the Storm. However I feel the weaknesses at reserve due to experience & fitness will cost them dearly. I think Stoke could do the double here especially running 2nd in the double header.
  17. That's as good a line up for a NL individual event that I have seen (based on quality & ability round Perry Barr). Not just for potential winners but throughout the field. Theres a decent chance both Greenwood's will be outside the top 8 how crazy does that sound!
  18. Hi Kips. You seem to have a fair idea of what you are looking for so are not a total novice which always helps. In terms of the items you seek they will pop up on here or ebay so just a waiting game. As for the items as you haven't raced before I wouldn't rush to get a clutch cooler just yet unless you see one at the right price. Briggo dirt deflectors are universal so fit any frame. Sprockets if you can I would buy new as you then know they are straight and true (unless from a trusted 2nd hand source). The rest pops up on ebay pretty regular at sensible prices. As for tyres get yourself down to your local track. There will be mountains of used tyres in better and worse condition but you can pick through them and best of all they will be FREE! Oh and as for psi depending on rider size 7-9 in the back tyre should give you a good starting point.
  19. Is Niall running at reserve or at 2? Not sure how Speight will handle the tighter circuits like Arlington but Holt should do ok so I expect a tough afternoon for Mr Strudwick. If he can gate and hold them up he could get something. I always think its not about how many points but how they were earned for the lower order riders.
  20. Danyon Hume goes like a rocket round Kings Lynn. Sam Woods has always looked a little down on power for the bigger circuits and no idea about Alfie Bo but he certainly doesn't seem afraid to screw the throttle on! As long as Kyle Hughes has a good night (which I suspect he will) the Raiders will run this close.
  21. Cant call this one. Providing all teams are at full strength I think Brum could pinch it with their ht 13 / 15 power. A lot depends on who they get in at reserve? One off / bad night for a big hitter on either side though will swing it.
  22. More work for Papa Baseby though. Agreed looked quick and should do a solid job for Coventry.
  23. Definitely a night or big thanks. First up thanks to Danny Halsey for putting in a good showing and pushing our magnificent Ben hard and thanks too for Connor Mountain for keeping it interesting (despite the nasty turning left of Shanes when Mountain had the B&W) and biggest thanks go to Mildenhall for bringing the worst reserves of the season to Central Park and giving ours a massive confidence boost. As for home thanks that extends to all. Morley lead from the front and was superb, Danny great but always a danger in ht15. Baseby getting back to his best and the pure effort of Shanes was spellbinding. Running the lap flat out for a point when the match was almost sown up anyway shows huge commitment. Basford had a couple of silly falls but looked more on the pace and Sheppard looked far more relaxed and his points tally showed that. And finally thank any higher power you wish for a WIN a bloomin WIN. Oh and the tractor who got the biggest cheer of the night
  24. I think this will be quite comfortable for Kent. Baseby running at 2 sorts out the issues in heat 8 although tonight I think that Kents reserves look stronger (yes I did really just say that). Basford has been making steady progress and with a rusty Nick Laurence and not ready to step up Leek as opposition I think the meeting will be sown up on that basis. Add in that Halsey never really sets Central Park alight, Kingston & Coles both seem to be in mini crisis' with equipment, confidence etc its only Bacon we need to watch out for. If Morley & Shanes can be their usual brilliant selves and Ayres can put his steady head on and bring home sensible points it should be a comfortable evening................
  25. Cant really look far past ht 1 for a potential record so either Morley or BWD. Depends if one can get out the gate and go. Other than these two I might have tipped Woody but obviously not available.
