  1. Some people should learn to keep their trap shut sometimes. Nine times out of ten over-promising leads only to disappointment. IGWT, but this is a big let-down and I hope that an explanation is forthcoming tomorrow (Roy). Well when he guested for us a couple of weeks ago he struggled to beat the opposition's reserves. This looks pretty much like a non-event now. Why not show somw imagination and run one of those 12 rider individual meetings instead, interspersed with a short-term individual for Archie Freeman at al?
  2. Well if it's triallists on Sunday I hope we adopt the 1920s formulation and call them A.N Other, Dan D. Lyon and such. I thought I would have a sense of anticipation about this, but I don t, for some reason - is it just me or do things seem a bit flat?
  3. Two more tweets from the Club but still no word about the team. I hope something happens soon...
  4. Hello Montie. I was thinking in the car on the way home of how many times you've bored on about the track at Brough Park. I hope after yesterday evening you will think twice in future. Sometimes circumstances conspire to result in a poor racing surface, and I'll assume that happened yesterday. Just to be clear, I think we would be likely to have lost whatever the track had been like.
  5. Unfair/harsh or not, there is an obvious candidate. I'm not sure for how long we have a facility for Robbo.
  6. Excellent meeting tonight, we enjoyed ourselves no end. Interesting trailer from Roy El Rantero (as I believe he is known when he does centregreen work for Madrid Toreadors) about a new "line-up" in a couple of weeks...more than one change in the offing, maybe?
  7. Diamonds Select v. Witches Select, then! May we have the interval timed for the sunshine problem today, please? Oh, and can we scotch the Kasper Lykke rumour at the same time? (He asked, hopefully)
  8. The absolute best. Free now of what is a terrible illness. RIP
  9. Nope, I don't have his number! Fingers crossed for Sunday.
  10. Subject to the years when Newcastle hasn't run I've been following the sport since the mid-70s and the doom merchants have been vocal in the last 25 years or so. That said, this is the first year of a curtailed fixture list and we'll have to see how it works out. My glass is half full at the moment. If we don't have (nominally equal) north and south divisions in a couple of years time, and "one big league" a few years after that, I'll be surprised, though.
  11. I don't see how anyone can be disappointed with the signing of Wethers until we know who the last signing is. If he is a five pointer then the season might be...interesting. We'll have to see - I imagine all will be revealed shortly. As for grumbling - I have done my share and doubtless will again but will wait until such time as there is something to grumble about. Ellis Short and Martin Bain, indeed...
  12. Whinge whinge moan moan. We still have over 7 1/2 points to play with. Whatever happened to "I'm just grateful we've got speedway this year"? Try to find some perspective.
  13. I'm sure it will all get sorted. The statement is reassuring. For a number of non-speedway related reasons I think I'll enjoy this season more than the last few, and I'm really looking forward to it. Hopefully I'll be able to get along to P & P as well.
  14. Some people on here need to grow a pair. IGWT
  15. @Tsunami - does George still have strings to pull with the DMU for the proverbial unknown Dane?
  16. Ladies and gentlemen, if Justin Sedgmen is the answer, we are asking the wrong question.
  17. British speedway needs to be very careful with its rulebook. Unless and until Brexit changes the game I don't think rules like this would stand up to scrutiny. Anyhow, back to the drawing board...
  18. Hmmm...Lewis Rose hasn't really trained on and is unlucky with injuries, and if only to prevent Sunday turning into Groundhog Day I' d sooner not. Huckenback I know nothing about, but might he be likely to ride in the continent on Sundays? Jorgensen's a funny one. I'm prepared to be convinced but from memory to describe his record at BP as patchy is to be kind. If he is in a Polish club's squad that is one thing but would he actually ride? I can't imagine Polish clubs paying retainers. Bjarne? He must be knocking 40 now and would know he could do no wrong at Newcastle - if we can afford him.
  19. It'll be fine. I remember enjoying the season when as I recall we had Rune Knudsen at #1 and only Dickie could lay a glove on the opposition's heat leaders. I know that it is said that crowds come to watch a winning team but to my mind if the budget this season is based on crowd levels being the same as last year then we are down to the hard core anyway and most of us will go every week regardless. I'd be interested to hear Tsunami's thoughts on that. Anyhow, in George we trust. Given that the 6 point rule has been blown out of the water (as it always was going to be if it was challenged - I may not know that much about Speedway but I do have some knowledge of that area of the law) what about a last hurrah for Bjarne (not sure about his average mind - I am typing this in a cafe in Tesco's which isn't the best place to research such things!). The season will start shortly!
  20. In George we trust. Maybe the DMU will recommend someone.
  21. Sorry, been busy this evening and haven’t had time to read every post - did someone say James Grieves is coming back on a 4 point average?
