  1. Well, it was certainly interesting to see Troy Batchelor at Brough Park this afternoon.
  2. Berwick is by no means impossible to pass on but it takes top quality riders to do it. Under a previous promotion the Bordernapolis individual meetings featured top men of the time, and I recall the likes of Loram, Louis and Screen putting on a great show (on one occasion, in a monsoon!).
  3. I presume that anyone on here can be as negative and snide as they like, within the forum rules. Equally anyone can be condescending if they wish, although I'm not sure why you think I have been.
  4. I'm getting a little short on tolerance for what seem to me to be negative and snide posts on here from people who appear to think they're masters of wit and repartee. By all means have all the debates of the sort you seem to want, but it may be that by the time you've finished and look up, we'll be left with an amateur sport in this country - although there could still be lots of deadlines in that, I suppose..
  5. I'm not quite sure what you're saying here but the second and third paragraphs make me think that for the good of the sport (as you see it, perhaps) those in trouble should be put to sleep now. I'm also not sure where your "Marshall07" name comes from but assume it's the year of your birth... although I know 14 year olds who get the point more than you seem to be able to manage, however old you are. It's like this: generally putting a licence on ice is euthanasia. Withdrawal from a league before the end of a season is usually fatal. You airily talk about deadlines... once clubs go they often don't come back. Give your head a shake.
  6. Can't say I'm disappointed abou that. @Dandelionare you happy yet?
  7. Not all of us... I may be the Terrace Grumbler but I always had time for Ludde and wish we had him at no. 5 now. There's no hiding from the fact we took a pasting yesterday but those of us who remember the season with Rene Knudsen will know that this sort of situation hurts but generally things do improve... Also, remember the season when the promotion took the season ticket money and then withdrew from the league without a wheel being turned - compare that to the very honourable way our present promoter has behaved and be thankful we have a team at BP at all. Back to yesterday... I enjoyed watching Charles Wright, Kyle Howarth and BB, and it was a decent way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. (Doug, is that positive enough for you?)
  8. Why? Because going to speedway is a habit and for some it may be easy to slip out of.
  9. I didn't think so: I've seen far fewer in for meetings pre-Covid. Of course there should be as large a crowd as possible but (perhaps in the light of what has happened in the week just gone) I thought it was reasonable today.
  10. What a cracking afternoon. Sunny weather, decent crowd in, track in good nick, and Covid restrictions didn't affect enjoyment of what was a close and competitive meeting. I hope we will see more of the same next weekend.
  11. Might the new start time (which, I entirely understand, has been adopted to accommodate the Gems) be an issue? It wouldn't bother me what time the meetings start but I have rearranged some Sunday afternoon family stuff. Others may be less willing, or less able, to do that. Some may be at work on a Sunday afternoon. I don't know enough about track preparation to comment properly but could the Gems run first with an option of showing up at 6.30 for the Diamonds meeting? Just a thought...
  12. It would be a truly excellent signing (and a great Christmas present) if there are no work permit issues. I wonder if Zorro is back on his Christmas card list? Anyhow, have a topper - and safe - Christmas, everyone, and let's hope we can meet up for a drink in the BP bar sometime in 2021. TG
  13. As we now have two vacancies in next season's team, I'm disappointed that @Dandelion hasn't come up with any suggestions yet.
  14. Very sad news about Ken Marshall. Covid will presumably mean it won't be possible to pay respects at a funeral but hopefully something can be done when we are through all this. If anyone knows arrangements for donations or flowers please post them. RIP Ken.
  15. Not really... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/53441670 ...but it may put the tin lid on the season.
  16. Boris says sports stadiums likely to reopen in October...
  17. Whaaat? Says the girl who produced 2,384 different team variants* in December alone? I havr tried booking holidays around speedway fixtures. It has never worked! TG *not including bank holidays
  18. Evening All, I don't have as much to say about the team as some (good afternoon, @TotallyHonestJohn ;-)) but I will say that I'm sure the boys will do us proud in 2020. I'm also sure that the Club is in very good hands. Have a cracking Christmas, everyone...we'll be at the tapes in March before we know it!
  19. Personally, I think it's time to get behind the new promotion.
