  1. They could say they're alchoholic wasters from Ukraine coming to claim benefits and the government will welcome them with open arms. Tell them you're coming here FROM A COMMONWEALTH COUNTRY for part of the year to earn your keep and spend what you earn in this country and they'll slam the door in your face. You could put them all in one bus for fecks sake. It's not like there's thousands of them.
  2. £255 at Edinburgh. That includes the Scottish Cup,(woohoo) the Scottish Open and a pre season challenge meeting. Canny remember the League and Knockout Cups. Slightly off topic, but a guy at my work smuggled his two kids into a safari park in the boot of his car to save a fiver. Then came to work and told everybody.
  3. It does seem harsh, but the guys a professional sportsman and must have realised that an exemption was required. If he didn't, he sure as feck knows now. Amphetamines are banned in every sport everywhere on the planet. I'm surprised there's any exemption from using them. Very surprised.
  4. £12K sounds like a reasonable offer to me, considering Redcar paid £8K to Edinburgh not that long ago. Havelock has just plucked a figure out of thin air. He's pissed off because he would have thought he was a long term asset and you can't really blame him, but he must realise it works both ways. As soon as Summers average didn't fit, or someone better came along, Summers would have been punted out on loan whether he liked it or not. It's the nature of the game. I always liked Summers and think he'll be a great signing for Glasgow. Damn.
  5. And owning a riders contract is a waste of paper, as the rider can walk away anytime someone offers him more money and any plans you had regarding "your" asset goes ** up and suddenly the rider you thought you had under contract is riding against you. The system doesn't work. Everyone except the wise men at the BSPA can see it doesn't work. Maybe they do, but have their own agenda for maintaining the status quo.
  6. The Summers thing has been done to death on the Glasgow thread, so what's the point of going over it all again? Nobody knows anything. It's all speculation.
  7. If Lanham can stay injury free, he could be a shrewd signing, but anyone who can put a positive spin on Dilger should be in politics. Or a home for the terminally delusioned. I hope he can prove me wrong, he's a decent bloke who tries hard and has decent equipment, but I never saw anything in the guy when he was at Edinburgh and nothing I've seen since has changed my mind. He always seemed timid and hesitant to me.
  8. There is an element of risk, but Edinburgh get more things right than they get wrong and I'd rather take a chance on this guy than take the safe route with the old familiar names around this average who aren't going to improve any. If it doesn't work out its not the end of the world. If it does work, he could be a major success and he'd be an Edinburgh asset. It's a calculated risk I'd say. You need to take risks sometimes. He's young enough to adapt I reckon.
  9. I used to think it was Jason Doyle, but now it's Grigory Laguta.
  10. My first Speedway experience was the last season at Old Meadowbank. I was very young and don't remember much about it other than we thought we'd get a good view from the big open space on the terracing between the first and second bend, not realising it was empty for a reason. It was a bit like someone firing a shotgun at your face, only worse. The crowd thought it was hilarious.
  11. I don't doubt it's the facts, but we only find out about it when someone finds it on the unofficial Comets website. Whatever the reason for the change, you'd have thought it was worth mentioning in their statement. Maybe they think we're too stupid to understand it.
  12. Congratulations to Scunthorpe on winning the track of the year award. With Rye House, it's the only Premier and Elite League track I've not been to. Hopefully put that right next season.
  13. Steve Worrall. The figures speak for themselves. Whether he can kick on from here remains to be seen.
  14. I don't think Brummie Rebel is fishing. He's just angry and frustrated and he can't see the wood for the trees. Forum rule 2:12 sub section 3; never post when you're angry and frustrated. My take on it and I was there is that after a monumental effort by both teams, heat 15 was going Edinburghs way. Their riders were disappearing into the distance. Aspgren sees the title slipping away and on the spur of the moment, slides off and sits on the track hoping for a re run. Unfortunately it didn't fool even his own supporters never mind the ref. It was laughably unconvincing and it's not just speculation, the ref actually announced his reason for awarding the race. I don't remember hearing that before. It was a huge effort by both teams, you could cut the tension with a knife and went right down to the wire. Frustration took over. It was a professional foul and the ref spotted it, as did everyone in the crowd.
  15. Young Ellis is welcome up here any time. A real pleasure to watch, even if he is the opposition.
  16. I'd bet next months mortgage it will be the biggest Armadale crowd of the season and I would suspect there will be a big crowd at Somerset. It is ridiculously late in the year and the weather will play its part, but we are where we are and just need to get on with it. As for a bigger crowd in September, I don't think that applies here. It's the play off finals and the part time supporters who only come out for the big meetings will be out in droves. If only they turned up every week.
  17. It's done and dusted because Berwick and Workington lost home and away. It's as simple as that. Causing an upset, keeping the group alive and maintaining interest would have been achieved by ether of them winning at least their home meetings, not by shuffling the fixtures. That's clutching at straws.
  18. Edberg was on fire. It's all about consistency of course, but if he rode like that all, or even most of the time he'd be going places. He was very impressive. Regarding Wethers, he saw the doctor at the end of the meeting and was signed out of tonight's meeting. Most likely no one outside the Berwick management knew he was ill. Seems he was pretty bad, which makes his score even more impressive. Vissing was rank. Doing a Wolbert. A performance from him could have changed everything.
  19. Philip Rising is intelligent enough to rise above the crap that comes up on here. It gets more like Facebook every day here, with discussions turning into petty, childish squabbles and attention seekers who'll say anything to get noticed. If I can spot the looneys a mile off, I'm sure Philip Rising can. They're nowhere near as clever as they think they are.
  20. I was quite impressed with Palovaara at Armadale on Friday. It's the first time I've seen him. He has a neat style and was pretty much up to speed in all his races. Considering it was his first time there, I didn't think he done too badly. It's not his fault he's in the ridiculous position of riding at no1. I think people should cut him a little slack and wait to see what he does when he gets a proper average.
  21. Invest? What's to invest in? Throw money at more like. You don't invest in Speedway, you shovel money into a black hole. As has been pointed out, there's more money going out than coming in. What's the answer? I'm fecked if I know and doubt any one else knows either, including the powers that be, otherwise our great sport wouldn't be limping around in an ever decreasing circle year on year.
  22. Looks like common sense to me. The meeting is beyond Glasgow, so they give the second meeting a chance with Workington and Somerset both chasing league points. Double headers need to run like clockwork but no one can be blamed for crash related delays. Looks like a good compromise to me and Glasgow should be applauded for agreeing to the curtailment. They could have insisted on running the full fifteen heats and the second meeting wouldn't have had a chance. OK, the fans missed out on some racing, but that can't be helped given the circumstances. Double headers must be a nightmare to organise. It would be desperately unfair to the Workington promotion if the second meeting hadn't reached a conclusion after all their efforts. I think it was a reasonable compromise. Hope the injured guys are OK.
  23. Your e-Newsletter editor is out of touch, as it's R/R for Mo Farah. Too many Quorn sausages it seems. Too much protein. First he's in, then he's out and ticket sales slow down. Then he's back in and tickets sell out, then he's out again. And we think this form of kidology is exclusive to Speedway.
