Leicester vs Glasgow 23/04 7pm
Teromaafan replied to LisaColette's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Agreed. Credit to all three of them for their efforts. Pleased that the twins showed a ruthless streak which is needed if they are going to progress. Basso is a real talented and gutsy racer, can’t fathom why Poole let him go? -
Edinburgh v Newcastle 2nd leg 22/04/22

When no one in your team can beat Sarjeant, the Grim Reaper may be lurking. Hope not, but being realistic. -
Howarth would surely have scored more than Jorgensen tonight which just might have been enough for three points. But in view of recent away performances, I think we have to accept the point. (I think that Redcar will finish the season higher placed than Scunny and Plymouth, which makes recent away results more frustrating!). Mountain and Rowe appear to have more than done their job tonight, but I agree that the Thompson’s are a concern on their travels. A team can only really carry one one rider in away fixtures if they are seeking a win. I remain loyal/biased and think that Dan and Joe will still kick on and hope that Mr Dickson is in agreement and has patience. That said, axing riders and bringing in better replacements is proving difficult in the current climate. As much as I’ve enjoyed the Lions upturn in recent seasons, I like the idea of sticking with young and local riders even if there are sacrifices in team achievements. Think I’d better stop there before trying to bring loyalty into speedway!

Having to debate the level or lack of cover for a dangerous sport is quite embarrassing from the outside. No wonder the sport is a mess when the level of medical cover becomes a financial option. If it keeps Brum afloat this season I will gladly arrange for loads of plasters and paracetamol tablets to be available for race days (sourced from Wilko obviously to keep costs down). As farcical as the situation may seem, the sport needs Brum, but they need to demonstrate that they can be taken seriously with what ever financial resource they have to meet essential health and safety criteria. Oh.. and best wishes to Auty. If he is determined to continue in the sport, I have nothing but admiration for him, since his current outgoings surely fall short of his recent earnings.

Quite right. It’s not as if both teams will have the same riders as last season is it? Recent performances against other teams mean nothing, particularly in this sport, where team changes are made throughout the season.

Fair comment. The team was built with a strong top three. At home, visitors will do well to gain a point. Away, the big guns need to score well to keep things tight going into the final three races, where two big hitters will get you over the line or look to at least salvage a point. Lions have now been spanked away by two teams who many will see as being borderline play off contenders. Having watched the stream the track appeared to be slick and dusty which no doubt accounted for the lack of passing. As disappointed as I was with my track observations (which grates when I read of the constant criticism of the Lions track), the score margin cannot be excused. With the clubs expectation of a play off spot as an absolute minimum, the obvious imbalance of home and away performances ( to date) would suggest that it would be very difficult to overcome another top six team over two legs.

If they do go for R/R Lawson wouldn’t be able to take one of the rides since MPT is third in the averages. This is despite him being the current number one for the league champions in the ‘superior’ Premiership. Try and explain that one to someone who doesn’t follow the sport.

The Lions heat leaders will really need to be on it for them to get anything out of the meeting. I just can’t see our middle and lower order providing too much in terms of heat advantages. Plymouth will definitely be stronger with an in form Lawson.

Leicester v Poole Sat 16th/4/22
Teromaafan replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
A full team contribution…. they were all cr*p. Nothing in it up to the half way point and then the gutsy Scorps took the pee. Our three heat leaders need to post at least thirty points between them for us to have a chance against the Pirates tomorrow. -

I had no idea of this and am saddened if Nigel has passed away. This was light hearted banter, which would be right up Nigel’s street, so please don’t dis me over this. -

Pardon my ignorance, but what has happened today that has caused offence? -

Yes fair play to Scunny, they were well up for it. Dickson will be fuming over the late capitulation and will no doubt kick some arses before the Pirates visit tomorrow. Thought that our heat leader strength would make us very competitive on our travels but this was a reality check. Watched the stream through Scunny TV. Quality of the picture and camera angles were very good. The commentators? made Pearson and Tatum look world class. When heat 8 was stopped we heard ‘The red light is on and as Billy Ocean said, that spells danger!’ Peter Kay eat your heart out! -
Leicester v Newcastle 9/4/22
Teromaafan replied to justathought's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It’s all well and good saying these secondary limits within the overall team limits should be implemented but the reality is that the likes of Newcastle and Brum came to the team building party late, since their priority was to keep their club in business. Until this is assured, team planning cannot even start. Whilst we all want as many teams as possible in the sport, why should the better run/supported clubs be held back from securing the services of the best riders early, in a climate where there is a shortage of riders, when some clubs are going to the eleventh hour before confirming that they will go to the tapes for the upcoming season. -
Plymouth v Poole KO Cup 1st leg 5/4/22
Teromaafan replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Didn’t attend or see the stream. In all my years of following the sport I can’t recall the home team heat leaders not gaining a single heat win between them. Don’t care who the opposition were, bottoms need to be kicked. -

Think you mean the Audi score. Although the Scunthorpe management may see it as an Aldi score as they didn’t have to pay him much! -

Er….. no…..their averages will explain matters for you. Joe had the lower starting average which is why he is currently in a reserve berth. -

Any team would be delighted to have Lambert on board………If his first name was Robert. -

Couldn’t get tonight, but it was clearly another mauling. I’ll be there next week and hope to see a competitive meeting with some good racing. Oh, just checked the fixtures…. It’s Newcastle! -

When we mock the credibility of British Speedway we forget Scottish football. ‘There’s always someone worse off than you’ as your Mum would say. -
The fans might get behind him but most of the riders will be in front of him unfortunately.
-
Wouldn’t disagree with you but the personnel involved at the initial design and construction stage are no longer around. The people now on board are doing the best that they can with what they have. If people don’t like it they won’t go. Do the tracks you refer to attract bigger crowds than Leicester? Unfortunately money not entertainment keeps clubs afloat. There are plenty of fans around the country that would love to still be watching their defunct team on a crap track.
-
Just hope that not too many riders read Berry9’s post. If they do, they will looking for excuses not to show up for their team. Love the reference to cheating. The club have picked up on this and have agreed to remove the sign post on the first bend which reads ‘riders in white and yellow helmet colours please turn right and allow for the safe passage of those in red and blue helmet colours’. The management will also apologise for the strong team they have assembled and will discourage them from making good starts to give opposing teams a chance to win races and promise not to pass opposing riders in front of them. I’ve made this point several times on this forum and the quality of racing is down to the quality of riders on track and their willingness to compete. I’ve had the privilege of watching GP level riders giving it their all head to head on this track (when it was worse tan it is now!) and the racing was superb. The only team to beat the Lions at home last season were Poole. Nobody seems to like the Pirates (and I can understand why), but they won because their riders attacked the track and were the better team and deservedly won on the night. In the first couple of seasons after Leicester returned to the sport, I don’t recall too many negative comments from opposing teams regarding the track. The Lions were consistently beaten at home and the track was far worse than what it is now. Hope this hasn’t discouraged Berry9 from future posts. For future posts though the spelling of ‘sink’ and also ‘Bears’ (check user name reference) need to be noted for the adult checking and posting comments on their behalf.
