Sounds good in theory, but too many of the riders doubling up rely on it to make the sport pay.

Last time the Lions moved up it was pure vanity and we simply made up the numbers, signing a few riders on short term deals who were not committed. With the current owner/management set up I think we will see a different mindset and a superior product served up.

Understand what you are saying but it is not necessary the case. A ‘No.1’ may have an average of 0.01 above the next rider in their team. Couple that scenario with the other team and the case for having your best rider at No.1 appears a little weak. Just keep the two lowest average riders at 6 & 7 and let team managers sort the remaining rider order out (as in the good old days). Current heat permutations are geared towards protecting riders which is just an unfortunate reflection of an ability gap in the sport. In my opinion you are there to compete. It’s tough, but if you are dedicated you will stick at it to see how far you will go. I know there is a shortage of riders and some will only become NDL veterans, but ‘protected’ races is it a bit like a football match where only younger players can be tackled by other young players. If you are in the 1 to 7 of a team in whatever league, you should have to deal with it.

Love the guy but hope he is not our No.1. He’s been everywhere and will be relied upon away. His performances at BP to date have been patchy, but will no doubt be decent once he gets dialled in on his hew home track. A bit concerned about his reputation as a guesting **. Whilst there is no substitute for practice, at his age, recovery periods from any injury can only get longer. Bottom line here though is that he will attract people to BP every week.

Well he would have been if he hadn’t injured himself laughing at the prospect. Four other promoters are now eligible to take an additional vote to cover his absence.

If this is the case, Craig Cook would be an option for the final place. Is he worth a punt? Someone will surely give him an opportunity in this league on a low average?

So when they reconvene, the meeting room might be prepared differently to the practice session then? That could catch could catch some promoters out and affect their decision making.

Since speedway returned to Leicester in 2011 they have raced in both the first and second tiers. Coincidentally, they have never raced against Peterborough in either league.

I would be amazed if Doyle doesn't get tapped up. The obvious choice for the No.1 and is very difficult to beat around BP. He was popular with supporters too in his previous stint. All for seeing the better riders at Leicester, on a track that has improved track since they last competed at this level. It will be a shame though to see the inevitable departure of the Thompson's who need a couple more years in the second tier.

Pains me to say it but I can't see the Lions overcoming Poole over two legs. Leicester rely too heavily on their heat leaders and if either of the big three dip away, we are stuffed. I think Poole will only need to bring 10 point lead to BP. The form that the Pirates are in, with the Cooks now firing, they might not even need a double figure lead. If the Lions can keep it reasonably tight away though, the return leg will be a cracker in front of a big crowd.
