  1. Stead, Garrity, Hall and Bates, I already can’t see many teams taking that many league points away from Owlerton, you are also going to have to run up a decent home score in a two leg tie against that side.
  2. Questionable if there are even enough Brits who could race a full time schedule to merit that rule, even if there is the supply and demand for Brits would then see some clubs gazumped to the point they would struggle to compete, it would turn mediocre talent into must haves. As things stand I would assume the league structure is in place to accommodate the financial structure of most PL clubs. The introduction of one Brit at reserve, and the softening of the transition between NL and PL should see an increase in the number of Brits who will be “competitive” if that trend continues possibly in time you would be able to implement rules where sides had to contain a certain number of Brits, but there has to be a better turnover of riders to merit that. The one thing I would say in Berwicks defence (albeit I appreciate you weren’t attacking Berwick) is that the riders they have signed, eg Pijper, Doolan, Mellgren, Wethers, TJ have, for the most part, treated British Speedway with respect to the extent that they now merit places in this country, they add to the product and are also a decent water mark for young Brits to compare their talents against, and theoretically use as a gauge for progression.
  3. The side does look bang average, but so did the team that finished 4th as did the one that was second a few seasons back.
  4. Hall wont score me points in a meeting, because I am not Sheffield Speedway, and nor does it particularly cause a problem for me if he does or doesn’t, given semantics are at play here. If Hall were to score 5 points though (chances are he will still struggle on quite a few away tracks and possibly in a few at home) it's 5 points the other team aren’t scoring, I would suggest that will give Sheffield a pretty decent chance of winning meeting, yes, I honestly don't find that logic or concept that questionable.
  5. Teams don’t begin meetings with their averages already pencilled into the score card.
  6. The broken back did indeed come after the broken hand suffered early in the season….to be fair though that’s nothing compared to a dose of the sh*ts after a dodgy bratwurst, not many know the suffering you have to endure after that.
  7. It’s an excellent signing. I have never really bought into the fuss regarding his attendance/nonattendance at meetings, he typically misses meetings because of injury, or because he has been racing in international events, it’s the consequence of signing an absurdly talented rider. I also, oddly, think it will possibly benefit him long term to enhance his reputation in the North. He is (Woffinden apart) the great hope of British Speedway and the more time and chances fans have to watch him will just endear him to them that bit more, British fans typically like the idea that the British hero is their own, whether that actually matters or not is possibly just broken biscuits, I suppose in terms of the box office he is then it does.
  8. Klindt will be frustratingly useful in a side with a proper Number 1. It is looking highly unlikely he will ever fulfil his early potential but on an average below 6.00 there is worse signing that could be made. I would assume he will score 6 most meetings, albeit it that could be 3 and beating Richard Lawson by half a straight followed by 0 following Ayers for 4 laps.
  9. Hall doesn’t even need to be that good to score a load of points at home, in several races he will be up against riders like (no disrespect intended) Morley, Payne and Williamson, he will up his average by default. If he scores 4 or 5 points a meeting and Sheffield score loads of points at home because of it, I wouldn’t imagine most Sheffield fans (or the promotion) will be that bothered that he isn’t the rider he once was. 4 or 5 that’s 4 or 5 points the other team aren’t getting, it’s a 8/10 point swing which is massive in meetings. It is comparable to when Somerset won loads of meetings and were competitive with Brent Werner at reserve, yes he was dull, old and wasn’t the rider he once was, but the thing is, he didn’t have to be, and nor was he being asked to be.
  10. Funny because..... Perry will be one of the better FTR signed.
  11. And you understand there will be counter opinions though, that’s what a forum is.
  12. That would surely depend on who he signs for, how he performs and what the club was asking of him? If he signed for a club and dropped 3 points of his average, sure, crap number 1 (crap number 2,3,4,5,6 or 7 in fact) if he signed for a side and left them 4 points under the limit, questionable decision by the manager/promotion and probably would be a poor number 1. If he signs for a side like Plymouth, thus allowing them to have more points at the bottom end and build a side with strengh which then sees them perform well in the league, while Fisher has a marginal drop in his average, I would say he performed his role for that side pretty well.
  13. I appreciate Havelock is only looking out for Redcar’s best interests and more power to him, that being said, the idea other clubs offer mega bucks just seems to be the default setting when a rider doesn’t sign for Redcar. That press release is a cookie cutter template that has been used for a few seasons now (before Glasgow had the level of investment they seemingly do now) so it evidently isnt just Glasgow who are now offering what Havelock sees as mega cash, there is every chance Kus or Jorgensen could go to another club for money that club feel is within their budget, but Havelock evidently doesn’t think is within his. That doesn’t mean either side is wrong, or the riders deserve what, while possibly not intentional, comes across as a bit of a burrying in the press.
  14. No it doesn’t. It proves that he (Fisher) is very good around Berwick, as was proven when he scored a 15 point maximum racing for…..his own team, and actually scored MORE for Plymouth at Workington than he did when he raced there for Berwick. The half-baked conspiracy theory re riders keeping their averages down to guest is great, but rarely validated by anything that actually “proves a point” eg, how many times did Fisher actually guest last season? in what meetings, or even races in particular was he manipulating his average, on the basis of what riders fitness was he manipulating his average so that he could then guest for said rider? How many points did he drop across the season and how much money did he cost himself so that TJ could injure his shoulder and miss meetings for Berwick. At what stage in the season did Fisher know TJ would miss meetings? If he was manipulating his average on the basis that he could guest for a rider who wasn’t yet injured why was he still scoring serious points for Plymouth during a time when he should have been manipulating his average?
  15. Wasn't just me that heard it. http://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/14612/berwick-plymouth-pl-20-2015
  16. It was announced on the centre green and website last summer, Plymouth meeting possibly
  17. Congratulations to the poster on this forum for securing the signing of Matt Wethers, grand job
  18. Because you tend to talk in hyperbolic BS and the idea of posting something that's actually the case is a challenge? "I would explain why but not now"...what a load of wanky nonsense.
  19. Can anyone who is reliable confirm if this is the case or not, thanks.
  20. Barker and Worral (if true) is a great way to build, there is +3 in that pairing
  21. If it isn't Carr then Tom Perry would be good, Perry will be one of the better fast trackers.
  22. Replacing Cook will be a bit like replacing Saurez and Bale, you can try and spread the transfer fee/average but finding a rider who just wins heats 1,13 and 15 is a bit like finding a footballer who scores/assists 30 goals +
  23. Absolutely spot on, if things hadn’t changed there is every chance there wouldn’t be a sport at all. Speedway is a sport that is attended by on average 700/2,000 people and it has been for the best part of 15 years, running a sport for crowds of 5/6,000 + is completely and utterly illogical. It’s always great when people position how things might have been in a best case scenario, they rarely caveat that with a possible worst case scenario.
  24. The gap between sides is massive, utterly massive. It can happen in a sport like football because sides can get a goal and hang on in there, in Speedway, even a decent PL side gaining a heat advantage would be a decent achievement. If it extended to NL it would be 60+ scores to PL sides, to put context on it, one of the standout riders in the NL was dropped from the worst side in the PL last season.
