Poole v Oxford - Good Friday
RebelDan replied to stevehone's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Excellent crowd and Poole can only beat what is in front of them, but it wasn’t a great meeting, not much passing as it was so on sided. Poole look very strong, Oxford look well short. Haven’t seen the Cook brothers for a while they are excellent, great to see Scotty still giving it everything at 44, top class. -

Attending the reverse fixture looking forward to it -
There shouldn’t be. If you can’t put the ‘entertainment of the racing product first’ then you will never continually grow the sport as the spectacle won’t be there. It’s all well and good picking these nice stadiums in City centre locations, but if the track and racing are garbage the TV audience won’t be attracted. There lies the problem with the organisers, their picking good cities/locations but they’ve completely compromised the racing which won’t attract many back or support growth in global TV numbers. It needs a balance of stadia/racing quality.

A truly dreadful meeting of follow the leader on a crap track. I took two newbies to their first meeting and was royally embarrassed. The Bewley win saved the show - well done Dan. I don’t buy all the razzmatazz of “yeah but it’s Cardiff”, first and foremost the racing has to be right, and time and time again we’ve seen if you give these boys a decent track they will put on a spectacular show. The organisers really need to sort this out as it’s been happening far too long - sort the bloody GP tracks out. The crowd looked at least 10,000 down on the usual Cardiff crowd which was a shame.

Just back home. A decent meeting without being great, I felt for Oxford, as if the enigma that is Troy Batchelor of heat 9 had turned up in his other rides, Oxford would have coasted it. The other five Oxford riders were all good value. Lawson was excellent for Poole but they were there for the taking tonight. An excellent atmosphere as ever at Wimborne Road.

Plymouth v Edinburgh 31/05
RebelDan replied to Jonnybegood's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Every race was over after the first bend , it was 15 heats of follow the leader. The meeting was a complete borefest and like the video -
I agree - Ruml was riding quite well at the end of the season and looked like he could have been a decent prospect, I can only assume Ruml and the last riders average don’t fit or maybe he didn’t fancy returning. It looks a more balanced team than last season

So “the roadblock” joins the Gladiators, Hans will be formidable at home

There is a bias by a few posters connected with Plymouth that start glowing about the track and racing even if it’s 15 heats of processional racing ! Some of the comments about last nights meeting are a classic example the above quote sums it up in contrast to certain posters. It’s like some are on the payroll! I’ve been to most meetings and I’d say the following : 1. Well done to the promotion on a slick presentation and providing competitive speedway in the south west especially after the Rebels sad demise. Thank you for live speedway ! 2. The racing is compromised by its shape and size and anyone disputing that needs to be objective and the racing is sometimes very processional , but the size does none the less keep the racing close. If the track could ever be widened that would be hugely beneficial but I expect it is cost prohibitive.I’ve seen many riders bust a gut for 4 laps on the outside and they have simply gone backwards. 3 . The people are very friendly and welcoming and it’s a very pleasant evening out - again well done to the club and all the volunteers connected with the club. Finally I wish the club all the best over the winter and I look forward to returning again in 2022.

Strongest second tier ever?
RebelDan replied to ruckerroo's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I don’t think many of the Somerset team from 2016 have improved that much IMO in the last few years, there will generally always be exceptions like Bewley ,Lambert etc and riders on an upward trajectory. Allen, Tungate, Wright, Josh G, Strake from 2016 have all broadly found their level mainly doubling up between the two leagues over many years and aren’t significantly improved riders from 2016, but granted perhaps a little more consistent and naturally experienced. -

Can’t agree the 2nd division is a lot weaker than a few years ago.The Somerset team of 2016 wouldn’t be out of place in the current top tier: Josh Grajczonek, Rohan Tungate, Charles Wright, Jake Allen, Bradley Wilson-Dean, Paul Starke, Zach Wajtknexht -
I was thinking more so financially with so few meetings remaining as others have said Bjarne and Crumpy can’t come cheap. I’m all for progression but just trying to be realistic - I’d love to see a more competitive team especially away from home. I guess it will depend on finances.

I admire your glass half full approach nothing wrong with a bit of optimism especially at the moment
-
Not much point is there with so few meetings remaining ? They are not going to make the play offs
-
Not a great meeting last night purely down to the amount of delays and crashes it just never got going. I hope all the injured riders are ok and recover quickly. The ref didn’t help it seemed to take an age for the 2 mins to come on for each heat, granted the riders needed more time after crashes and reruns but even so the delays seemed excessive IMO.

I see the rescheduling of the Poole KOC match has been planned for 22 June - I am not sure it was a wise move to reschedule it the at the same time England play at the Euros? Of course many won’t be bothered about the football but I’m sure some will.

No worries Tommy ! I agree with you let’s keep it about the Speedway - good health to you and your loved ones pal.
-
No criticism pal of Wolverhampton I was just agreeing with the poster that the West Midlands has been hit harder than some other parts of the country that’s all !

Agreed !
