  1. I think nowadays the air fence takes the brunt of most of the shale, I was under the impression they were introducedto help riders visibility when following other riders and getting filled in by rear wheel roost. When meetings get cancelled or abandoned due to rain, they nearly always quote rider visibility as being one of the reasons as they can't see..... So if air fences keep the majority of the shale on the track and dirt deflectors don't stop wet roost, what is there main function now............?
  2. Rider wages, that's why every rider wants a team place over there.... They probably pay the wages of a 20,000 crowd team, that's why they are in financial meltdown...
  3. Happy to say both Darcy and Marcin both negotiated their Polish League commitments today unscathed! Darcy didn't seem to be riding with any issues at all, looked a class act, but then again, they all did!!,watched all 3 meetings on sopcast, bloody brilliant quality, it was like watching 3 World Pairs meetings with the quality of the riders on display and the quality of the racing.... It was also nice to see in the main, pretty clean team race suits, when I say clean, I mean you were able to identify the club's they represent as the number of sponsor logos were minimal...... It made it look that bit more professional as well as the racing being top notch.
  4. This morning's rain is late! So won't clear us until probably 2pm, the good thing? Well, the following showers won't be anywhere as near heavy as forecast because the convectiveness of any of the showery rain to come, will be inhibited (less convective)
  5. Fin Jensen, I remember his time at Leicester.... He was either a world beater or pants, nothing in between with him....
  6. There's no oil in the material these days either, I am not sure that made that much difference, but with oil forced into the base over the years from the constant drip, drip, drip must have added to the bases ability to repel water.....
  7. Another load of fixtures cancelled due to rain, Kings Lynn managed to get a meeting on, even after a huge thunderstorm only an hour and a half to two hours pre tapes.... If they can do it, why can't others......? And don't reel out the old "well it's their track and stadium, because they only had a couple of hours to complete the remedial track work needed.....
  8. Yes, both added together and they'd just about make a Speedway track! At their sizes, they ought to race 250cc's and 125/150cc's on... Yes the race times are similar, on the Sky meeting this week, most of the heats were around 59/60 secs, but the ave speed was well, slow compared to the, well, er proper Speedway tracks of a proper length.. and most of the passing, and there wasn't a great deal, except when riders made errors, like going into the corners to fast and getting into trouble or turning to hard and getting into trouble, but as you say, that doesn't count, does it.....? I'm not saying Leicesters track is anywhere near perfect, and it is hard to pass on, but it is possible.. To be brutally honest, passing in modern day Speedway is far less frequent than it was pre laydowns, and also, I don't suppose riders in general want passing? They want easy rides, not hard rides, when was the last time you went to work and said..... I'm looking forward to a really hard day at the office???
  9. So you'd rather have a "Lakeside" or "Eastbourne" type of track? They are definately worse than ours....
  10. The forecast isn't to bad for the afternoon and evening, it's the morning when the majority of the rain will fall, don't forget we've got the best draining track in the Country, and probably the best team of track maintenance volunteers in the Country as well!!
  11. Meetings are called off far to often nowadays, thought the fabled, all singing, all dancing, "BRIGGO" Dirt Deflector was supposed to be the saviour of our sport.... If it's not meant to minimise rear wheel roost, what the he'll is it for?!!!! I am sure it's riders visibility that causes most issues with wet tracks? If that's the case, then what are the deflectors for? And don't give me the story about keeping shale on the tracks because the air fences do that on the turns, and shale loss on the straights is virtually nil anyway... So if protecting chasing riders from "roost" is not their function, what is it? Because they are bloody expensive!!!!
  12. The "Magic Switch" is Eigh! Eighh!! in UK Speedway..
  13. I said this on a purpose built thread, everyone ignored it or said preferred early call offs if weather iffy, I am in complete agreement, certain tracks call it off without even trying remedial track work.....
  14. I think once the likes of Kerrs and Garrity's have left the draft, I mean that in a nice way, riding as main team members next yr I would think, the skill level of the draft riders pool will be a lot levelled.... Think it's first yr was always going to be imbalanced.. Also, there needs to be a max time you can spend as a draft rider, otherwise you could end up with a number of "professional draft riders" who everyone would want!!
  15. Hmm, don't think that's daft question at all..... Don't know the answer though.. And back to Kerr being in the draft, there's some folk out there moaning about the likes of Josh Auty/Ashley Birks not being in the draft, they were PL ht leaders last season!!! You can't please all the people, all the time!! There were always going to be disparity with some riders improving at a vastly faster rate than others... .......PLUS...... How do riders leave the draft in an upwards manner??? And when????
  16. Any rain/showers around Brandon should be brief as they are the result of convection, and will probably be heavy in nature with thunder/hail possible, but they will blow through on a blustery wind.. The evening should remain dryish with the atmosphere calming down with the loss of the daytime heating.. I would be quite optimistic of the meeting being on, but depends what damage was done yesterday and overnight last night....
  17. According to the latest hi-res rain radar images, the Norfolk Arena is pretty much rain/storm free for at least next 3+ hours, hope you get a good meeting...
  18. Looking on the hi res rainfall satellite imaging, there is a chance the Norfolk Arena could avoid any further thunderstorms/heavy rain as it is not on any of the convergence lines where the big hitting storms are, just a chance if another home grown storm around 17:30/18:00 due to the evaporating fallen rain that will create some unstable air... Other than that, could be all systems go!!
  19. No thread for Bears v Witches? Is it still on.......?
