  1. The Rainfall Radar is quite difficult to understand accurately, and is quite often misread, the dark blue used on most rainfall radar applications and programmes signifies the lowest/least amount of rain, but actually it's not actually measuring rainfall, it's moisture content, it's a bit more complicated than that, but quite frequently it mistakes low cloud/mist and really light rain/drizzle that evaporates before it gets to ground level, so if you've got dark blue on rainfall radar above you, it's not always raining!!
  2. Again, thanks BTFC LION. From what I have gleaned from various sources, the difference in what is paid out to riders, don't forget it's the same meeting format, same number of riders, the pay rates to riders is quite a bit different, so who's right admission price wise?
  3. Two of those riders came from Leicester, The "Frog" and "Monoman" !!!
  4. Ha, Ha!! Well the last time I spoke to him, he said he hated the place!!!!!
  5. I here they are going to bring in a GP foreign superstar short term for shovlar, only he will need a translator!!
  6. If he pops up in another club colours anytime soon I'll be inclined to agree with you, but until then I am prepared to give our club the benefit of the doubt in this one....... Quitting the UK scene is a different story to quitting the Leicester Team..
  7. So it's increased by around 7p a race if you don't include the second half races, that's pretty good in my book!!
  8. It may have cleared Glasgow by say 11/12 noon Sunday, and the actual path is not set in stone yet, a cold front moving in through Wales and east through the Midlands on Saturday will complicate and is likely to effect the plumes exact path as it is pulled north, it could end up being forced into the north sea, which would reduce its impact on mainland UK, meaning the worst of the weather would be over Eastern England .. perhaps no direct impact on Southern Scotland.. As I said, details will be firmed up as the data predictions leave F.I and move into real world time....
  9. I wasn't there, but to me, it looked like Fisher just straightened up and ran into the side of him, but not the usual left side T boning, he sort of ran over his footrest on the blind side, this caused JG to straighten and accelerate into the fence full head on.. first time i've seen that sort of collision.... Definitely no intent from RF..
  10. That was sort of what I meant, why is there so little difference in admission prices between PL and EL... Well that seems great value, and more like the correct price difference between PL / EL
  11. Met Office just issued a weather warning for the areas mentioned in the post title. Don't know how to add a picture, so here goes... Basically a typical June Plume of very warm and unstable air will track up into the UK overnight Friday into Saturday, resulting an a very wet day for most. The rain will mostly be heavy, prolonged and thundery, with thunderstorms for a lot of areas, the storms will track north through the day and we could see some very large rainfall totals.. There is a little uncertainty in the plume timing and its exact track up through the UK, further info will be made available as the forecast enters real time.
  12. As this was an afternoon meeting, was any remedial work carried out on the track to try and improve the conditions? As this was an afternoon meeting, was any remedial work carried out on the track to try and improve the conditions?
  13. So, Niels-Kristian Iversens nickname "PUK" stems from; a) His love of hockey b)Looks like a TV character from his childhood c) Something else.. Answers on a postcard please!!!!
  14. He (Nick Morris) goes well at Leicester..... He's comfortable in the Premier League, but I think he is guilty as many double -uppers in the Elite League, he over rides and gets into all sorts of pickles! Will be better when he matures on track a little....
  15. Better weather forecast for Thursday (at the moment) However, there is a plume on its way that is not in the forecast yet and this could well make Thursdays forecast a tad different... We could end up with around 21c/23c, sunshine, high humidity and thundery showers.. hopefully we'll be ok..
  16. Just wrote a long post ref above, hit the post button and it vanished!!!!
  17. Admission prices need looking at.. Elite League £17/£18 Prem League £17, anyone pay less or more, both leagues?
  18. Yup! Boiler suits donned, copious amounts of sawdust spread on the racing line, puddles near kerbs swept down drains, bulldog clip on helmet peak, stacked with plenty of small perspex squares with different corners creased, and off they raced, slower times, but they raced....
  19. We are told that today, and I still work infield is riders don't want dirt dragged back onto the slick as its like riding on marbles, I think this is down to the lack of depth of the shale layer, before you hit the compressed, concretified base, the dragged back shale will not stick/bind to the exposed base now during the meeting.. The bases are so rock hard now, I can see their point.... When they tried to wonderwheel the inside slick tonight at Birmingham, the spikes were just skating, no breaking of the surface took place, so a pointless exercise, if they had of dragged a bit of dirt over it first at least surface water would have been absorbed and then sprayed straight back to the fence in the next race, as it happened, the next lot of rain killed it. If they had dragged dirt onto the slick before the second downpour, if it had stopped, the saturated dirt could have been bladed off and possibly they could have reached a conclusion.. (possibly) They don't have much of a contingency plan these days for "during the meeting" rain..
  20. In the old days, I'm talking late 70's early 80's what we were instructed to do as rakers when it started raining was to pull as much loose dirt as we could onto the slick, this loose material could then absorb the rain falling, and protect the worn surface, the re wetted dirt over the slick woud be quickly sent back to the fence, along with the moisture.....!
  21. It's almost like they saw no threat from the rainband moving in, usually in these situations they get a move on from the start.... But in their defence, if the rainband had done what was originally forecast it would of blown over/through as only a 15/20 minute shower....
  22. The rain band is no wider than a County! And it was forecast to move in this evening from the West, in an easterly transit. Unfortunately the day was a little bit sunnier and therefore warmer than forecast, this had the affect of forcing the rainband to mature quicker and heavier, also the rainband turned slightly north so was no longer going from wet to east, it started tracking north and the places under it, when it turned north were unfortunately, Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Manchester!!! Not had a drop 10 miles east of these locations ish.... If you check met office actual hi res rainfall radar you will see it's a finger of rain bearing cloud, now heading north, north east.. Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Belle Vie are very unlucky tonight. The forecast is also not brilliant for Weds, Thurs, Friday or Saturday for Speedway in the UK, heavy rain/showers blowing in from the Atlantic, but towards the end if the week, possibly a weakish plume threatens from France/Belgium that could turn largely the Midlands and south of,quite humid and thundery.....
