Sheffield V Scunthorpe (pl) 15th May
Shale Searcher replied to Stan Duppcomic's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
A couple of questions peeps...... How many meetings (the team) have ridden at home this season? And what's up with the track? Track needed balding? Wasn't yesterday a perfect Speedway day weather wise? -
To the person that has just pm'd me with an offer, I am unable to reply to you in messages for some reason..... your nickname begins with J. I don't know what I am allowed to post so I will just let you know that I bought it in 2003/4 and paid more than that, I am looking for at least that plus another 85/90% at least Don't know what else I can put on open forum. Cheers Shale Searcher

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why oh why oh why!! Why can't they just say honestly, like Unfortunately due to an electrical fault in the main stand we could not get any public area lighting working. We employed an electrician once we discovered the problem but it was found after a rigerous fault finding session by the electrician to be an underground problem with the stadium supply. We then contacted (insert electricity company involved) who could not get anyone out to us until the following day. The (insert electricity company involved) engineer arrived the next day and has now rectified the problem. I would like to once again apologise for the inconvenience caused to all the supporters, staff, fans and riders concerned but the problem was really out of our direct control. Yours faithfully (Insert Promoters name)

Expected weather for Peterborough Speedway Area This Afternoon & Evening........ Having had a look at the latest low res rainfall prediction data, pressure and cape, looks to me like the heavy, convective shower activity today, looks to me likely to effect central Midlands and a diagonal line from Manchester, dissecting Leicester and down to London is going to mainly be in the shower/thunderstorm corridor today, a lot depends how much sunshine we get though to act as the trigger.. Peterborough will not be immune to the wetness, just less likely than yesterday to get potential meeting killer showers.. Time most at risk I would suggest is between 14:00hrs and 20:00hrs

Have just mentioned this on the Belle Vie v Kings Lynn meeting thread, as that's now off tonight....! I thought it was a Speedway magic bullet..... Will help keep dirt off the crowd, and keep it on the track and keep wet dirt/muddy spray off chasing riders? Apparently not then... So what is it actually doing then apart from lining Briggos pockets???

At the under 21 world championship qualifier yesterday at Leicester, only Lasse Bjerre was Jawa mounted...... He finished 3rd after a run off for 2nd spot.. The winner, Mikkel Bech had a huge stable and team.. 3 identically looking immaculate bikes, and I counted 5 in his team, all booted and suited in Team Bech clothing, he left the pits every race with 4 of them in attendance + a running spare bike... Very professional amongst a field of lads with varying backing.. having this backing does appear to make a difference.. Is this good for Speedway in general though..?

Riders Begging Fans For Money
Shale Searcher replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Collections for military personnel may well happen on a regular basis, you don't expect to see a Speedway related issue on a help for hero's forum, totally irrelevant statement from Robert72..... If you want to give, give..if you don't, don't... Simples. -
So, the other edge of the sword is fans find other things to do on evenings when rain-offs occur, find that what they did/went to watch was on or nearly on a par with a night at the Speedway, and decides that the next slightly damp/slightly below par opposition is at his local track is not tempting enough and does his rained off alternative!! It's rock and hard place, gradually you lose fans .............. to the point the promoters have, inadvertently shot their own feet off, they've shot their ankles, shins and knees off as well!!!!!

What Makes The Perfect Race Track, And Why?
Shale Searcher replied to Shale Searcher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
But that's just silly! Couldn't bikes be standardised/made equal, untouched by tuners (at least for league racing) let the GP boys go tune mad and exotic material-tastic!! Wouldn't that make league racing better? -
What Makes The Perfect Race Track, And Why?
Shale Searcher replied to Shale Searcher's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So, are we saying it's the bikes? I suppose in a riders eyes, winning races is all that matters...... and if you have 4 guys all wanting to win races, you should get decent racing? But we don't, a lot of the time.. So, we won't ever regress to uprights, so what can be done with the modern laydown that could improve things, without costing fortunes? -
Don't you think though because its supposed to be a "Professional" sport, more effort needs to be made to get meetings on! No wonder the sport and support for it is in rapid decline!! Supporters are now not committing to go, knowing it's going to be off with the slightest hint of the wet stuff... To add to your comments Vince, are you saying promoters are postponing meetings on the basis they are concerned about the size of the crowd turning up because of inclement weather, rather than an unfit track? Surely that's just going to keep spiralling down, oh it's gonna be cold tonight, well let's postpone, we'll say rains forecast.... Sounds daft? Perhaps it is, but how many meetings have been lost to weather forecasts when it's not actually rained? Ok, bit damp and cold, but I bet the tracks been fit come start time.....
-
Why does it seem that so many meetings are rained-off in the UK? Other European Countries seem to be able to get meetings on even in what appears to be far worse weather conditions than here..... Is it the riders? Is it the promoters? Is it the tracks themselves? Is it the referees? Also, what's happened to the Sky Meetings Covers? It also appears that meetings are called off far to early, I'm sure this is getting far more frequent than it used to be?

Sheffield V Berwick (ko Cup Restaging) May 8
Shale Searcher replied to smod's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
17:55 Looks like the rain will stop around 18:30-19:00 according to the Hi-Res Rainfall Radar, it may abate back to light rain/drizzle around 18:15ish If it's not been watered and its well tyre packed, you might be ok.... -
