Ok, if you add up all the fans on here that say the track needs changing, it still only adds up to between 60/99 people, not exactly the whole Leicester Fan base, so you can probably see it from D.H's point, you can probably not add many to that amount that may have said anything directly to his face, so say 200 tops.. That equates to less than a quarter of a 1,000 gate, and considerably less than 15% if a 1,600! It would NOT be enough to change my mind as what about the other 85%!!!!! Whether or not they want it changing or not, if they don't say, how can he possibly take the risk..... However, if there is someone who wants to take on the responsibility of organising a proper, paper petition, conducted in the proper manner, which includes more info on what needs to be done, and then presents this information to him/his Leicester Speedway business in a proper and professional manner then you will get a definitive answer. It's a big and responsible job that needs conducting in a thoroughly professional manner, is there someone who would want to and able to do this in a completely unbiased way, with no bullying, coersing, no shortcutting, cheating and no cheap shot behaviour to finally put this issue and the future of Leicester Speedway to bed, forever? What do you think??? -

Swindon Robins V Coventry Bees 26th June 2014
Shale Searcher replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
This rain would probably have cleared through by 8:30, do Swindon have a curfew? And could they have started as late as 9pm with a little track work (preventative) don't know how heavy the rain is, but only showing greens / yellows on radar, so shouldn't be torrential.... Anyone at the track? Actually, it might even have passed through by 7.45/8pm looking at the high res rainfall radar..... -
Hi, I have sent the following message to the forum boss!,let's hope he/she will action the request. Hi, please can you start a new sub section in Speedway news and discussions, we would like it calling "SPEEDWAY, HELP FOR BEGINNERS" It will contain questions from New registrations about all aspects of Speedway. Can it also be pinned please, with the ability to start new topics/threads with it. If you look at my topic started this morning at 03:30, loosely about % of Speedway fans that post/read the BSF you will see the interest this new ideas has already generated. Cheers; Shale Searcher Sent from my HTC One M7

So, who starts a new thread section, this comes under BSF ---> SPEEDWAY ---> SPEEDWAY NEWS & DISCUSSIONS. Then there's a sub topic -----> INJURED RIDERS Do we need another sub section called [sPEEDWAY FOR THE BEGINNER] Then questions can be asked and answered.. hopefully!! Can a moderator start this off?

The banking has been increased considerably since opening, it also cannot be increased to a final height overnight, it's a slow, gradual process, if you want the surface to be usable, same really all round the track, building up a usable layer of shale is an on going, slow process, otherwise you end up with a load of deep slop when it rains, or a rock hard concrete finish when it's not raining! -
I was just thinking this evening, most of the stuff posted on this forum looks like it's posted by the same old, same old people most of the time, Including me! I wonder what % of the total number of British Speedway Supporters that actually is? It also makes me wonder what the balance of non posters actually think? There must also be a large number of People/Speedway supporters that read, but don't post, you know, that number quoted that represents guests viewing the forum, but not allowed to post as guests. I wonder why they don't join the forum and post their opinions on British Speedway, perhaps we need to know what % we are of the British Speedway Community........? Perhaps we need to be more welcoming to new posters? I have seen posts by forum "Newbies" perhaps their comments have/were/are not as knowledgeable about Speedway as us hard-core fans, but some of our responses have been downright rude (on occasion) Perhaps we need to be more welcoming ourselves to newbies, if I had visited a Speedway meeting for the first time tonight, didn't understand something, did the "modern thing" and went o nnline for answers, asked a question that the answer is obvious to us, and one of us answers in an acerbic manner, it would probably put them off Speedway for ever? What do you all think?

If we want the top boys back, we have to pay top boy dollar as well, so you have to have decent crowd numbers at a reasonable admission fee, or small crowd and high admission fee.. At the moment with the admission fees as they are, there's not enough full adult paying fans to support more than 1 maybe 2 too riders, except for the likes of Poole, Kings Lynn and maybe Coventry and Leicester. To pay 50 points to a home team, with 3 top dollar boys, 2 second strings and 2 fast track reserves, what's the cost? True cost?

A problem with the one night fits all Speedway clubs is that it won't....... Dogs, Stock Cars, Rugby, Football, Bangers are all present at some clubs, so that's not a straightforward option, absolutely tons of ground work will need doing before that could ever be considered..... You only need a track or two with dog racing (landlords) to decide to change or add a race meeting and it'll all fall apart....
-
I agree, perhaps the demographics of the City are just wrong for top flight Speedway, maybe at a lower level (less outgoings) it may have a chance... Don't know what the average crowd is at the Brummies, but with having Cov and Wolverhampton as close as they are, can't help.. It would be like Leicester having to compete for spectators/supporters with teams at Syston and Oadby, perhaps...............

Although we rememeber these days with mostly fondness, I would take some of today's Speedway stuff and add it to those days.. The air fences, modern day helmets and other life protection devices and that's about it I think...... What does that tell us about modern day Speedway racing.....?

In the 1970's and 80's there weren't any 7 rides a match, ringer reserves which has been partially removed this season with the draft system.. Bikes were simpler, cheaper to service, needed less services, however, breakdowns were more common I think, races were not stopped so quickly, if a rider fell, the track staffs main responsibility was to get the bike off the track, and the races continued, shale was dragged back between every race by the track staff, and further spread by tractor grading after EVERY race.. There were second halves to meetings where the heatleaders and second strings competed against each other and the reserves had more races, juniors competed in small mini matches, and after all that, complete novices were allowed out on track!! EEEEEK!! Tracks suffered from less rain-offs, riders cornered later, and race times were slower, guest riders were around, but rare and usually used for injured heat leaders absences only (I think). British Finals were at Brandon, on Sundays, in front of huge, sell outs, with 16 top notch British heat leaders.... Helmet colours kept falling off helmets, and the BELL MOTO 3 was the helmet of choice, and Preston Petty Mini Mudders were the in vogue front mudguards.. Handlebars were Speedway handlebars, you could still get British engines!

Theres Talk about lack of Torque being A Talking point as well...!!
-
Ditto, you wouldn't believe how much clay gets "washed" out of the shale!!!
-
The bikes react differently to how they used to... Especially in heavy dirt, however, tuners have been trying to tune the problem out, but it's not consistent, hence still a problem, not as bad, but still exists.. in my opinion.

My Top 10 Riders On Current Form
Shale Searcher replied to barrow boy's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Do Claus Vissing and or Ollie Allen double up anywhere? Or do they both ride only prem in UK? -
To be honest, a lot of the meetings I've watched on bet365 (so not selected by sky for tv viewing) have had pretty processional racing, passing only on the first bend and drag race to turn 3, seems it's pretty common nowadays at most UK Speedway venues, not just Leicester......
