Encouraging Young People To Become Fans!
Shale Searcher replied to Trees's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
"I am not sure" print ads are the way forward.... Local Newspaper, Radio, TV... They have to be worth go's, surely......? As a starting point.... And Sony forget, there's not many young promoters... A closed shop of old fogies seem to rule the Speedway roost ........... -

How many friends/acquaintances do you know that didn't know about your local track until you told em?? -
The Doubling-up Rule Next Season
Shale Searcher replied to G the Bee's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not all riders seem to actually want to "guest ride" or can't for whatever reason.... Professional Guests ( not knocking them by the way) Rory Shlein Chris Harris Davey Watt Scott Nicholls Never seem to guest (not knocking these either) Hans Andersen Tai Woffinden Jason Doyle Does anyone want to add names to these lists and also how many guest appearances these have/have not made this season.... Would a rider be able to earn a living in a season just guest riding? Perhaps if you had a small pool of unattached riders allowed to guest all season, perhap limit appearences for the same team though.. Perhaps? -

I think it's down to promoters, just not promoting!!! Sitting back and expecting fans and new fans to just appear.... There's no newspaper adverts these days, ok, the odd school fete appearance, and anything that's free, but would it hurt to pay for some sort of advertising? Crikey, people have so much to choose from entertainment wise these days and probably base the product on the quality of its adverts.. -
After he hangs his racesuits up, can't see them wanting a current rider anywhere important!! (Not my opinion, just knowing what we know)..

Most of the fans left at Speedway, connect with the music from 70's and 80's (unfortunately) Modern music does not lend itself to modern Speedway, or with "old" fans.... So much incompatibility these days.....

The Doubling-up Rule Next Season

Pools if riders/share riders out/reduce costs/watered down Purely words used only in Speedway... Fans cannot get attached to riders/clubs This generates apathy, destroys enthusiasm, get to meetings at all costs...... Do any teams sell rider / team rosettes anymore.... No longer fan -> team/rider worship Team photos taken in March, still sold in June, not anymore!! No team spirit (riders) = No team spirit = (fans) Riders no longer loyal to their clubs, 9:39pm, last race of the evening for Sheffield, 9:50 on the road for Manchester airport for flight to Sweden, no local socialising from most riders, fly in, ride, fly out!!! That's what has destroyed Speedway in the UK (as well as track / stadium neglect), boring racing etc......... -
The racing I have watched at Swindon and Coventry on Bet365 has been very adjacent to what we see at Leicester.. Strung out racing is a problem especially noticeable on the longer tracks... I have been watching Speedway for many years, including Blackbird Road days.. I have never said that bp is perfect, or is anywhere near as good as it could of been, however I also don't think it's as bad as some on here make out and if you keep saying something is bad, it will influence others to see it that way as well..... You know, reputations. What can/could be done that would possibly improve the situation is not as clear-cut as most people think.. Anyone remember Brandon in the 70's, that had an awful reputational for processional, first from the gate, no passing racing.. Speedway in the UK has massive problems at the moment, people rave about Peterborough, "best track in the Country" "Loads of passing" "Exciting racing" But only about 400-700 turn up to watch, so answer me this.... WHY?
-
Think we need a proper definition of "A PASS" in Speedway...... Not sure that "a rider gaining a race position, by overtaking an under power rider, that is not making a mistake, and must not be on the first lap, and must involve 2 or more riders of completely equal ability, without a home advantage in favour of the rider completing the pass, providing the track is in perfect condition, and in no way influenced the rider/s being passed or making the pass. That must be the modern day definition of an overtake in Speedway....

If volty says the meeting had no passing, then the meeting had no passing!! Come on peeps, why on earth would he say their was no passing? If their wasn't?? It was a simple copy/paste statement from someone who always says the same thing, week on week.. The meeting actually contained some high class moves, Buckowski impressed with his turn 4 pass on Bomber, and also his very aggressive move in turn 2/3 to move both Aces riders off the inside to allow Mads to blast underneath them both.. Josh continues to improve week on week and needs to build in some upper body strength...... Simon Stead is looking much better now as well, he's also looking physically stronger and very focused, something that I believe will stand him in good stead! (Pardon the pun)

Berwick V Plymouth 5/7/2014 @ 7pm

A good combination would be someone with a sound knowledge of the rulebook and a motivator, man manager and a No 2, perhaps an ex rider with "SPEEDWAY" running through his veins..... -
It can't be totally pants, ir they wouldn't do it.... Having said that, in the old days, were there that many totally professional speedway riders around that did not have another occupation? Perhaps the absolute top dogs only had speedway (in season) But lower end second strings and reserves?

According to the high res rainfall radar, this first batch of rain could and should have passed through Coventry by 7/7.15pm this evening, the echos suggest its not heavy convective rain, you may get away with it....... -
I think, we subconsciously only remember the good meetings, the bad uns, just Don't register in our long term memory......

I remember in the 70's we had a Greg Sczepanik (something like that) he was probably the worst reserve in Speedway history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Elite League 2015
Shale Searcher replied to Aaron Reuben Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The inevitable would happen, quick chespish fix, league flooded with below average, foreigners again, why take a risk with a British kid when there's Eastern Europeans by the gallon.... Worse position than square one!!!! -
It means subject to planning permission you can: Race any night of the week Race on many nights/days of the week Practise whenever you like Run training schools everyday Don't lose so many meetings to weather (track time remedial work) Have other sports Rent track out

So, not enough quality British riders to fill all the places in the EL then, there is the problem, yep!! For years now, EL and PL promoters have been filling the lower team positions with over hyped, average, expensive, foreign riders.... Now, with the FTDR system, we will have nearly enough much improved British kids, that will be able to hold down 2nd string positions in the 2015 elite league, so there's potential to dump around 8 mediocre, expensive, foreign riders in 2015
