Leicester Vs Coventry 25/8
Shale Searcher replied to Bee 26's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Latest hi res rain radar has the majority of the heavy rain to the south of Leicester, met office amended weather warning accordingly.... If it continues to modify in a similar way, we will get rain, but significantly less heavy and likely to cease by evening..... -

How much does it cost to Rain-Off a meeting these days?? Assuming ALL your riders are already on planet UK?? Met Office Updated weather warning for today, Leicester now only just in warning area....... Rain being dragged in a more southerly direction, still rain showing for Leicester, but just a 20 mile shift and the heavy stuff misses Leicester... -

Leicester V Poole, Saturday 23rd August 2014
Shale Searcher replied to SteveLyric2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The reason for the longer than normal interval was to allow the riders to mingle with the crowd to collect for the "Ben Fund" collection, which raised over £1,000 tonight, take a bow Leicester and Poole fans.... -

What's an air fence bloke? I have absolutely nothing to do with air fences of any kind, anywhere!!! What a rude person you are, I have never had a go at another forum poster, ever... I just find it strange that some people make statements on here that could be backed up with a photo, screenshot etc and that would reinforce and enhance the post/thread. As I said I am a keen amateur weather forecaster, and spend an equal amount of time on a weather forum, and photos, chart screenshots enhance the experience. Everyone on here, well a lot of people seem to suspect everyone else has some sort if agenda, or just criticise every post everywhere! -
You know, I first started as a track staffer in 1980 at Leicester, we got paid then, 80p, a programme and as much weak tea-urn tea as we could drink at the interval, oh and we had laundered overalls as well, very professional. In our last season at Blackbird Rd it had gone up to £1!!!! I also did track staff jobs at Kings Lynn, and Peterborough wher you were remunerated (it just covered expenses getting there) I fell out with Speedway in the late eighties and didn't return until 1991 when I started supporting Long Eaton.. I am now involved with track prep/meeting official and I am a licensed machine examiner, but I have not met anyone who gets a bean on race day anymore!! I think Speedway Promotors have had to cut, cut, and cut back and even goodwill is in very short supply now towards Speedways unpaid army and that's not good because it's like rising damp, initially right down at the skirting boards were infected first, then it crept into the plaster above the failed damp course (lack of money, it wasn't rectified) and now it's effecting the window sills... How far up will this go?

I was only enquiring because sometimes the odd bit of a screenshot of a broken bike related to the post would be beneficial to the thread, or a screenshot of a historical scorecard or God forbid, an action shot related to a post/thread.. Cannot believe this forums posters cannot be trusted to post only relevant pics/screenshots to the thread in question, no wonder our sports in such a mess, from the top down, from the bottom up, to left and right, we really do think we're something we ain't!!!!!!!!! -

Has Kelvin Tatum done his pre meeting and track report for Cardiff yet? -
With race points like in tonight's meeting, 4, 3, 2 and 0 for last place, not coming last became the overriding factor.... They all could have tootled round for 3 laps, then made a mad dash to the finish line, with the sole aim of not finishing last! Can you imagine it........? That would cheapen the sport, you'd only need one engine all season!!!

As has been said already, no such rule as first bend bunching, only rule close to that is the unsatisfactory start, just how far away from the tapes that can be stretched is the grey area.... 30 yards? Maybe 40 yards, by then you're into the first corner and that's about as far as it should be applied.. After that, someone has to be the cause of the race being stopped.. To not exclude someone in the final race tonight would have been totally disregarding the rule book and to an outsider/newcomer would have made Speedway look totally unprofessional, and frankly a name we give it 24/7 ourselves usually "MICKEY MOUSE" The correct decision, as per the rules was made in that heat, the scoring system created the "NO WIN SCENARIO" in the Final....

Peterborough Panthers 2014
Shale Searcher replied to NeilWatson's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I'm afraid for Speedway, it's got itself into a vicious circle in many ways... Reducing the points limit year after year, reducing the quality of racing on offer year after year, reducing the amount of shale on tracks year after year, losing paying on the door suppoters year after year, whilst increasing admission year after year, riders wages increasing year after year and you get to where we are now. Not enough quality riders in our top division, miniscule crowds and still reducing and probably the biggest mistake is allowing the quality of the top league to be levelled off to the lowest denominating club every year, so the clubs that are actually surviving every year, building strong teams every year and are (or seem to be reasonably safe financially) get hammered year after year, reducing the quality of their product to the level of the poorest clubs in the league in the name of trying to stop the poorly run/financially challenged/poor demographics of their local population will eventually implode and Speedway will be no more.. We need the clubs to be aiming higher, and not as it seems lowering their standards to the wring end of the product spectrum.. if it means losing a team or two from the Elife League (on the short term) could be the answer... -
I am not sure why photos rarely appear on this forum. I am a member of a couple of professional weather forums and photos/sscreenshots/charts are posted on a regular basis.. If it's allowed (cannot think why it shouldn't be) can someone explain how you do it please? Cheers Karl

Great idea! Most only have enough dosh to pay the riders, what and then pay £xxxxxx to WHOM? for overrunning the meeting by 20 minutes or so?Really good idea that one....!! The stadia that really only exist for the doggies, doesn't need to be all singing and dancing, the bookmaker feed hardly ever focuses off the dog/s & track, the spectators usually populate the bar, so why spend money on anything else? Along comes a speedway guy and pay the stadium owner £1,500 to rent the stoney, sometimes weed infested brown oval inside the dog track and a couple of bars.... Until these stadiums are dragged into the 21st century and become full blown multi sports complexes, IE dogs, Speedway, football, rugby, quick cricket, stock cars, and others, then there will be no improvement on that side of things.... Perhaps it's going to be down to the Speedway owned tracks/stadia in the future.........? -

How do you get a photo/screenshot into a post on here? As I said, it's a "stalled front" meaning it's not going anywhere fast.... By the looks of it, it could start moving anytime, once it starts to get influence from daytime heating... It might not or pretty unlikely at the moment it will get as far west as Swindon, but there's a 20% chance it could arrive, the Trent Bridge Test Match is under the same timescale threat from this warm front as well... -
Swindon - Poole 10/ 7/14
Shale Searcher replied to A ORLOV's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
The problem with the weather today is that there's a There's a potential problem with the weather this evening for everyone, this is due to a STALLING WARM FRONT which is moving from east to west, it stretches the whole length of the country and is currently slicing the UK in half from Top to bottom, and has recently made landfall from the North sea. This is a warm front and contains unusually high amounts of water vapour, which could lead to 4cm+ rainfall locally as it struggles westward... Where it is around this evening is still open to conjecture, but if you get it by 5pm, you'll still have it at 10pm.... Possibly thundery as well by mid afternnoon... -

When he was briefly at Leicester a couple of seasons ago his head/ego struggled to get through the pits gate, used to have quite an entourage of knuckle Dr**$**$ who thought they could just waltz in without paying because they were with him..... -
If we can keep the current 7 riders fit, I doubt we'll get beaten up at home again.... With a few home wins on the bounce, the "feel good" factor will return, we've had a very trying first half of the season this year, what with lack of home meetings (various reasons Inc rain offs/fixture clashes) even with the non elite league meetings we've had on some occasions, you can't beat league racing...... Track preperation has been tricky this year as well with very poor weather in the run up to the start of the season, followed by lots if rain in the days running up to meetings, and Glyn does a great job, in sometimes no time whatsoever!! The meeting against Belle Vue last Saturday generated some of the best team spirit from the riders i've seen all season, and that makes a big difference to how riders handle themselves on track as well... Let's hope the weather gods are fair to us this Monday coming with Sky there for the first visit.

2014 European Speedway Championships
Shale Searcher replied to DutchGrasstrack's topic in International World of Speedway
I agree, not a brilliant meeting, far to much advantage on the outside gates. Although the racing was close I thought it was pretty predictable. For me it had a certain "novelty effect" with the start/finish line being in a rediculous position (I also thought it was in a damn dangerous position) We were very lucky that there were no serious accidents in the run to the line.. Why do they have the start/finish line there? It doesn't lengthen the track to make it FIM (start and finish line different places) The riders were always sideways, and throttle control was a non event, just stick it on and hold on, just adjust line every now and then... I think that if the start line had been in a normal place, the racing would have been completely different..... I am not saying there was no passing, but it was very predictable where and when it was going to happen, tracks should have 4 corners and 2 straights, this was like Peterborough (which is a great track) but with the straights missing.... -

At Leicester in the olden days (1971 - 1983) well at least until 81, when I started as a track volunteer. The gates were thrown open after about heat 10/11 and you could walk in and watch the last heat or 2 of the match, and all the 2nd half for free!!!! Quite a few I knew at the time did that and became full time supporters......
