Great GP, and not a single fall despite the speed and tactility of the racing, shows what can be produced on a proper speedway track! -
You know, this meeting reminded me of the early 1970's, with even the most experienced riders partially free wheeling into the corners and turning on the power mid corner, not like today, throttle on the stop, with the rear wheel spinning constantly for 4 laps, patchy tracks and modern day riding techniques just don't match... A slightly grippier area and the rear tyre bites and the rider arrows in a straight line!!!!!

There seemed to be lots of track staff in hi viz's last night at Poole, more than normal. One interfered with Hans in some way on the 2nd bend... That's really childish..

You are forgetting what the riders want....? They prefer slick, smooth, motorway tracks, easier to ride, less damage to bike, much less likely to get injured, they are the ones to blame over dirtless, passless, tracks of the modern era, it's speed, speed and more speed... Track craft is fast becoming a thing of the past... -
Weather forecast for raceday.. The main rain band coming in off the Atlantic this morning has slowed and also has broken up somewhat. So we are looking at a more heavy showers day than the originally forecast persistent rain band. So I revise the clear-up time until late afternoon, around 3/4pm, however, with the rain being more of the showery type, although heavy at times, there won't be any significant difference in the rain total. As long as the track has been prepared with the rainfall in mind, should still go ahead. PLAY OFF WEEK FORECAST (Provisional) Play-off final weather is looking in FI, as being rather blooming good!! Temps in the really High teens, or even low 20c's, not much rain on offer, Indianesque summer type!!!

It's possible that if speedway takes a downturn in Eastern Europe, Sweden, then the money on offer, or its regularity will drop, the riders therefore will look to good ole Blighty to earn there corn..... What our response would be is the deciding factor on whether speedway survives in the UK, personally, I'd tell all of them, except the ones currently riding here on a regular basis to go and get stuffed!!!

I missed it, the Mrs however thought we'd signed Doyley for another 3 yrs!! I did put her straight, and that had not happened as there was nothing on this forum!! Wink, wink, bloody wink!!!

Team Strength 2016
Shale Searcher replied to phillwhitewasmad's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Ok, so if there's 12 teams in the league, that's 94 riders needed at the start of the season, agreed? So what do the "spare" unsigned riders do until teamed riders either get injured, lose form, or decide they've had enough? Where do they earn their money, unless you then start bringing in lower league riders or the aforementioned Jonny foreigners that do nothing to enhance the sport and clog up reserve berths.... -
Is this meeting still on? Have Sky not decided the risk to losing the meeting to the weather, or another "let's get to heat 10 and call it" scenario manifesting.... For what it's worth weatherwise, it's going to rain tomorrow, dry in the morning, then showers breaking out around 10/11am, turning into persistent moderately heavy rain until around 1pm, then returning to showers before clearing the Poole area for around 2pm. It will then be rain free, but not summer temperatures to aid drying. It will be dry during the evening, but a lot will depend on whether or not Poole protect the racing surface, if no covers, it will need packing to within an inch of its life so the majority of the rain runs off and does not penetrate the track to deep. Looking at the weather that's forecast for tomorrow, going on recent Sky Sports decisions, why have they not insisted it be cancelled and rearranged for the Wednesday? I really wonder sometimes......

Yep, weather set fair for R.O.D, Monday is another matter altogether... Will do a likely forecast for Monday this evening...... -

Weather for Friday is now set fair, will be under or just about under a weather settling high pressure area. So, cold nights, and reasonably warm, dry days around 15c/16c around race time.... 😃 Monday's forecast is still in the meterological F.I (Fantasy Island) to far away to forecast accurately..... -

I wasn't having a go at Coventry, but what about other sports that get affected by weather? What's the call off conditions for Cricket, Golf, tennis, etc.... I suppose these other sports are not so rigorously timed? I mean they have a larger window as to when the sport being contested can be played/ran.. for example a 7 hour, 50 over a side cricket match can be cut down to 10 overs a side and completed in the last hour of its scheduled time, but that's about the only sport sky cover that can have the game/match conditions changed so drastically? They don't cut down tennis, football, rugby, do they, and they don't get any hassle off sky? Or do they?? -

Now I realise we will eventually cop some heavy rain this evening, round a bout what would be a race meeting start time, my point is, the forecast was wrong, in fact very wrong and if a meeting had been scheduled for noon today and cancelled 2 days ago based on the forecast, we would have not had speedway on a fine day.... Now today is a fine example about trusting the weather forecast.. Right, now it should have been piddling down across most if not all the west/east Midlands, really heavy heavy rain, followed by heavy thundery showers or thunderstorms..... Well, where the devil is it?? Well I can tell you it's all a lot further south due to an erronious weather forecast, due to the met office and other European weather organisations expensive computer weather modelling software not doing a very good job with this really complex weather patterns we have this week. Which includes a dying tropical storm called Henri.. It may still get us later, but the driver, a Low pressure area instead of moving east through the south of the UK, has not deviated and has headed due east through France. This only changed this morning and therefore calling meetings off a whole 2 days in advance based on a forecast is ludricous and doesn't do the sports credibility any favours whatsoever.. -

Is this a new attempt by Billy Hamill, I thought he had a go at this a few years ago, backed by "JOKER MACHINE" ?? -

Weather Check.. Well at least "Henri" will have left the UK by Friday, but it'll have left a legacy of unstable, moist and disturbed weather in its wake.... Friday is looking wet early on, quite a lot of rain for the Midlands early doors, but, it'll clear to showers early afternoon, with some blustery, watery sunshine.. Should be ok if they can pack the track hard before Friday, weather permitting of course... -
A lot of the showers have electrified as they moved through the east Midlands, tornado sighted in Leicester at some point this afternoon... Calmed down a tad now, the heavy stuff transferring north east, but then veering west around Grantham/ Lincoln/Scunny..... Manchester now in the firing line....

Yes, I know, but we've always had rain, it's not a new phenomenon, what's got into speedway..... It's a summer sport, but summer is renowned for heavy rain storms, never used to get rain offs 2 days before!!!
