Yea, sick note city.... How can it pay to fly to UK, take 4, maybe 5 rides, then fly out again!! And have competitive equipment, and A competent mechanic to maintain that equipment over here... Just doesn't add up.

Would the BSPA not have conducted some kind of "straw poll" with these "superstars" before making such a decision? If most "superstars" said no, then the BSPA would not have gone along with the plan for fixed nights from/in 2017 season..

How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Shale Searcher replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
You paid less, but surely most of the £18 admission to speedway goes on paying the speedway riders? Reduce the admission, and unless the additional spectators meets the shortfall in revenue from the reduced admission, then the riders will have to take a pay cut, and let's be honest, around £300 for winning a race is not exactly millionaires row earnings is it.....? You know, a nice red shale and a well manicured grass centre green is a lot more pleasant on the eyes than a sh** up dirty browny-grey tarmacced middle.. -

Yes, I'm sure the sun breaks didn't exist in the 1970's and 1980's because of structures that have since been demolished. Don't know the answer to this one, it's a big problem at our track (Leicester) Again, what's the answer? I don't know, if you planted semi-mature trees such as Leylandi, they still would not grow to a usable height within the next 5 to 10 yrs, maybe not even 15 years.. high fencing would have to be massive, and would no doubt get vandalised or burnt down, or the wind would uproot it!!! It's the massive change from blinding sun to darkness in under a second which is the main problem, even me at amateur level noticed it, and its very unnerving, and dangerous. Tinted goggles can't react quick enough, either way.... bright to dark and back again. -
Kenny Carter, Question Confused

Yea, me too... But was that actually much different to what we get served up today? Obviously it was a far better field, but it was a proper World Championship qualifying round.. Big crowd, no laydowns, Kevlars, Airfences, "jumpers for goalposts" type of memories... But was it better racing? I'm not so sure.. Thanks for the link though. -

Do you think that speedway is becoming sanitised..? Riders not honour lapping, having to remain still at the start line, not frequenting track bars after racing, constant apologies from its broadcaster when agricultural language is used, and when a rider breaks this new breed of cleaner than clean sportsmanlike behaved rider mould, certain sections of the sports global fanbase get offended not only themselves, but on everybody else's behalf!! Doesn't provide the right environmental conditions to breed controversial characters... Talented or not talented. -

At the end of the day, even if the racing is brilliant, only the people there will know.... How do we get that it was brilliant to all the rest of the world that don't go, or won't go because "first out the gate always wins" syndrome.. It's the people that don't go that need targeting.. -

Is there a meeting video anywhere on YouTube or anywhere else on the interweb for that British Final? The wet one!! I was at work and could not get to that one..... Cheers, Shale Searcher -
Yea, a few grey cells have retired since that incident, who's gonna jog our memories on this one....?

How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Shale Searcher replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Trust me, it was graded after every race (the norm) The meetings started at 7.30 and if league racing were 13 heats, then a 10 or so minutes interval and then a 7 / 8 race second half, which comprised of roughly a couple of reserve reserves races (home 6,7 away 6,7, a star of the night (3 heats, winners and fastest 2nd place to a final) and 2/3 junior races, the meeting was then closed, and the "Learners" came out for 15 minutes or so, or until they broke the fence or the lights were switched off!!! NB The gates were usually thrown open around heat 10/11 of the main meeting and people could then come in for free, which they did.. that may have grew the paying attendees long term!! -

Ok, when I started going in 69/70 I didn't really know anything about the sport, it was when I hit double figures in 73/74 I really got into the racing, and in them "good old days" grading was done after every race!!! Rakers dragging back dirt onto the inside, and tractor with grader doing 2/3 laps spreading, levelling the shale, taking off any berm that builds up 3/4 way up the bends.... Now, it's officially only done after heats 3,7 10 and 14 ish. So there's less grading now, technically.... -
I'm afraid I have to concur with stevebrum on this, the difference in quality between EL and PL is still to massive, any result over 2 legs would always be an EL win by 25/35 points aggregate....

He was with Belle Vue last season and doubled with Sheffield until his horror crash with David Bellego at Rye House in the summer, busted his femur and a few other bones..... So, a lot depends how he has recovered mentally as well as physically... It was a pretty nasty smash by all accounts. Also, with being a Sheffield rider, he would miss a fair few Saturday premier league fixtures unless the premier league teams give GP weekend meetings a miss (doubtful) otherwise he would be an ideal 3rd heatleader.

So, who would Lions fans like to see fill the remaining slots available? (They must be available at the moment and fit within points remaining) otherwise it's not realistic.. Do we need an out and out points for team building muncher, or strength in depth..?
