  1. Deep dirt on the outside lines now seems to either kill the engine, or the bike grabs far to much grip and the riders lose their bikes! Also, the dirt on the outside lines needs fettling, and some degree of packing, otherwise it's like riding on kittie litter!!
  2. Holes, dips, crowns, adverse cambers, ruts, are notoriously hard to reinstate, crowns being the easier.. Holes and dips, even after filling, wackering, filling, wackering never seem to "stay" filled and always seem to get "power slided" out! Or absorb water quicker, soften, then get graded out! Where possible, it's much better to grind a hole/deep rut bigger and not to leave a vertical edge.. Fill the bigger hole, which is now more of a dip with small layers, wacker well, them another layer, wacker well.. if the problem area is really deep, into or through the base, then a soil stabiliser can be used in the initial filling, but don't overdo that stage, build the infill up slowly, difficult to do in winter if it's very wet, short of dry weather and little sun/warmth as the layers will not fully cure.... In my opinion.
  3. And that's a pain in the backside, they have to 're-grass it far to often, not enough natural light is killing the grass quickly... An oversight? Or poor design? Poorly thought through?
  4. So it's race day, you wake at 06:00, you can hear the rain on the window, do you think, could be a tricky track for the boys tonight.. Wonder if they'll start on time, think it's a big coat tonight, but still excited.. Or So its race day, you wake up to the sound of rain on the window, do you think, it'll be off, hope they do an early call off, I can then go down pub with mates, think I'll go to the pictures, I'll ring my mates now and organise where to meet.
  5. Racing at most, if not all tracks is processional in the early heats, that is always brought up on Sky transmissions!! Not until a dirt line has been built up on the last third of the track do you get any passing, other than sporadic overtakes from other riders mistakes..
  6. Ray Wilson also had that terrible crash on the exit of turn 4, if memory serves me correctly, Dougie Underwood was also involved.. Wilson broke his Femur in that crash as he slid under the fence and got trapped under the hare rail on the dog track! He moved to Birmingham after that crash, he was never the same rider again.....
  7. That's probably not far from the truth!! As the track and surrounds were being built/laid, the associated rubble/rubbish is dragged along on the uncompleteted track until they got to the last section, bend 3 & 4, they were probably running out of the recommended track substrate and literally ran out, and also buried the "rubble" under the shale on 3 and 4, and that could be the underlying problem, pardon the pun!
  8. I was working on the first corner, if I remember correctly, didn't Ricard Hellsen have an ef directly in front of Cook, and Cook skewed into the fence trying to avoid him? I know he was thrown a long way!! I also seem to remember Mike Lanham having a carbon copy accident, Hellsen May have been involved again, and Lanham was thrown a very long way and was really badly injured, multiple fractures and all sorts of internal damage.. He never rode again, I saw him in the 90's at the fours, still needed a sling for one of his arms, lucky to be alive I think..
  9. Are Cov allowed a guest for Woryna, or is it a squad replacement or R/R?
  10. Absolutely spot on............ As it is now, the first sign of rain, anywhere near the track, and people think it's gonna get cancelled, abandoned, heat 10'd... That "seed" of doubt is well and truly planted in supporters noggins, and they don't attend. The few that do attend, rattle around in a half empty stadium and then the staging promoter decides to cancel early the next meeting on a mildly "iffy" forecast that doesn't materialise, and the evening turns out nice, and that haemorrhages more supporters who lose interest with no speedway, they try some other event/sport/cinema or save the cash and go to Cardiff, knowing it's a banker... Also social media can be great for garnering new spectators/fans, but equally it can damage the sport with so many negative, and sometimes damn right nasty/rude/spiteful posts about speedway and its problems especially unnecessarily cancelled meetings. Promoters should do everything in their power to get meetings on, not look for reasons to not run..
  11. If it takes a man a week to walk a fortnight, how many sticks of rhubarb does it take to make a rabbit pie?
  12. Where is his original statement about the crash the other night?
  13. Colin Cook in full flight on the pits bend at Blackbird Rd if I'm not mistaken??
  14. Weather Forecast: Well, unbelievably, it's a good one!! Sunny spells, chance of an isolated shower. Temps around 12c come the evening will feel pleasantly comfortable with little or no breeze. All Systems Go! (as they say)
  15. I know what you mean, at Leicester on Saturday, there was a rider there that was not in either the Leicester or Belle Vue line up, we did have a MDL encounter, Long Eaton Invaders v Belle Vue Colts after the EL match. I will not name him, I don't want to embarrass the lad, but he had a fairly new, fully sign written van, with: First Name, Surname RACING emblazoned all over the van. Now, I am not knocking the fact he had a van, but it just goes to show how the younger generation of would be riders prioritise equipment!!
  16. Yea, good nails are expensive, think I'll try "No More Nails" in a tube!! But how do you add a picture to a topic....? I have seen one or two, or is it only a select few that can do it?
  17. A bold statement, so how do you see the future structure of speedway in the UK then? The split/difference between amateur and professional, there still will be a professional level of speedway in the UK, but how do you see it??
  18. That was a good example of why it should not of been cancelled earlier. The band of rain could easily have stayed exactly where it was a 3pm, it was touch and go wether or not it moved north.... And in the end it did nudge north and caused Coventry to be rained off, but it was a knife edge forecast... And it just, and I do mean only just went against Coventry..
