Should Tai Woffinden Ride For Team Gb ?
Shale Searcher replied to robert72's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Tai has always ridden well in SWC events, but I think that's more for Monster than it is for Team GB... -

I have a proper scrapbook on Ole Olsen, anyone interested in buying it? -
Winter is what happened!! Do they get rid of puddles during the winter? That's where the damage gets done.. The laying water has the time to soak deep into the base, and the base then doesn't get an opportunity to dry out/cure before it's ridden on, any weak areas where water has contaminated the base is straight away vulnerable to rear tyres, graders, and the material is the first to get ejected, then the base is ejected, doesn't matter how many times the holes/dips/ruts are filled and packed, that area gets evacuated of material every meeting... Maybe if you have a 4-5 week break with no racing, and no significant rain, and the affected areas are prepped, filled and given the time to cure, it may just solve the problem...

Bit like what happens at Scunthorpe at the moment then....

Call it off now, 52% chance of rain between 17:00hrs and 22:00hrs. Nobody likes watching speedway in the wet, and riders don't like riding in the wet..!! Everyone can go and book cinima seats, arrange a pub crawl, put some shelves up, anything other than watching speedway.!! -

Calm down peeps... As it stands, Tai has let his British Fans down by opting out of League Racing in his Home Country.. Ok, we will at least see him in the British Championship, oh, no, wait a minute, he has won that 3 times already, and says he wants to give someone else a chance of winning it!! That's not borderline arrogance, that's damn right disrespectful to the other British Riders!! But, not all is lost, he says he will still represent Team GB in the SWC, Wow!! That's big of him.... On balance, I think he has burnt his bridges with British Speedway, and yes, he shouldn't be picked to ride for Team GB in this year's SWC because of his disrespect to British Speedway.... -
Welcome back to the madhouse as well BB2!! From Shale Searcher....!!

I saw the postings on this subject, written indeed by flagrag, I thinks it's in the "should Tai ride for team GB" thread, just confirming it did/does exist... If I remember it was a joint deal with Sky/BSPA + he chose which EL club to ride for, and he would also receive the clubs deal as well as the Sky/BSPA package....

Did anyone see the photos on FB earlier with Nicki P and his brolly, absolutely lobbing it down, pits, track flooded, still lobbing it down, but blue sky in horizon, he said ******** are fixing the track shortly.. Well firstly, I think it was in Sweden, were these photos of the here and now? And did they then race? If they did, then why, why, do the buggers fein and go all "it's too wet" to race over here?? (NP) obviously doesn't race here, but I bet one or two of the other 13 do...!!!!

Do sky advertise speedway at any other times except when a meeting is on? I never see it advertised during a footie, rugger, cricket, or any other sport....? You don't see it advertised on any of sky's other non-sport channels like the Premier League footie/cricket gets.. I will stand corrected if they do, but I cannot remember any, except maybe Cardiff? Even that may have been multiple season ago....

So there you have a list of people that are allegedly on your side.. (Swindon Speedways New track) Get their email addresses, postal addresses, and keep badgering them, don't allow them for one iota to think you no longer care....
-
Seems to me from watching the meeting last night at Poole, that a lot of the problems could be caused by over watering, and, this is important, with the track surrounded by structures with varying height/width that some areas of the track seem to be in some sort of perma-shade, some in bright sunshine and some in partial Sun/shade... This would cause real issues with track surface consistency... (Wet, deep, slick, rutty, wavy, etc) If this is the case, the track needs special attention, and varied watering, rather than just flooding the whole track...
-
You need to keep badgering the people that need badgering, the minute you stop because you think it's in the bag, and bang! the dozers are in and its the end.... Don't give em any excuse, keep at em, keep at em, and to be on the safe side, keep at em. Don't think, well, Sid and Eric are on top of it, or Geoff and Doreen, are at em, everyone, keep at em!!

Tai's attitude to the UK stinks, if he doesn't want to do league speedway, British Championship, then he shouldn't be picked for the national team, in my opinion.. How do you explain his appearance in the SWC, especially if he "WINS" it for Team GB, to any potential new sponsors, dignitaries, at the SWC... Who's this chap then, he's brilliant, and British, who does he ride for here? Errrr, well he doesn't, he rides everywhere in Europe, but not here in his Country.. Why? Errrrrrrrr, he says that.................. (Please add as appropriate) Oh, OK, I won't be adding any financial backing to him, or his local team, as it will not be of any benefit to my business... NO, NO, My point was, that using Lewis Hamilton, as a comparator to Tai, was not possible. There's only one F1 race in the UK per year, so if Lewis wanted to perform in the UK more often, he would have to take up another motorsport discipline.. Tai wouldn't have to or need to, just ride EL, do British Final, etc... Hamilton doesn't have that choice available.. -
Having top notch drainage is going to massively reduce rain offs, trust me, I know!! Water puddling due to poor drainage is probably the single biggest enemies to the speedway track... It changes the integrity of the track, and causes the dreaded "patchy" track, slick to grip to slick etc, it also creates dips, holes and ruts where the water lay and gradually eeked into the surface causing the track surface to be graded and worn away by tractors and speedway bike rear wheels!! These cannot be repaired during a meeting.... However, having great drainage does have a drawback, in that the clay can get "washed out" of the track surface, which needs the clay to bind it together.... The surface then becomes compromised and breaks up more readily, so the clay must be re-added as soon as possible....

You all know what I mean, if Lewis Hamilton wanted to compete more in the UK, he would have to compete in another form of motorsport, like Touring cars, or Ginetta, or Truck racing, or F2 or F3 Tai wouldn't have to..... -

That's not a fair comparator, there's only one F1 race in the UK, and he will be there....... -

What's the point of having a World Champion in any sport, if they don't ever appear in their home Country? The only chance anyone will get to see him is Cardiff!! and that's only gonna be true speedway fans, and the odd complimentary/freebie/corporate spectator.. That's why it's wrong. He may as well be included in the Polish or Swedish national championship, do A Rune Holta!!!
