  1. The other thing about this is that the promoters only announced the team yesterday when they must have known about Ayres being doubtful and Garrity being injured on Thursday.
  2. Lions have 3 guests plus 1 r/r - this means that I will not be there. Who would go to watch any team sport with over half your team not there? Would have been much better to postpone.
  3. Whilst I agree with posters that the track staff did an excellent job in the circumstances I seem to recall that someone, possibly Glyn, came on here and explained that, if rain was expected, the best thing to do was to remove the shale before it started raining so that the rain just ran off the hard surface into the drains and did not soak into the shale which would then be difficult to remove because it would be of a wet concrete consistency. This is exactly what happened yesterday - we all witnessed that the tractor with the bucket had difficulty scraping the surface away hence the need to load the bucket by shovel. On the announcement front everyone knew they were being extremely optimistic with their announcements. Its like being treated like idiots! Also the presenter missed a glorious opportunity to get a riders view of the situation when one of the Rockets riders spend about 15 minutes prodding the track near the start. Why did he not interview him. It would at least have made a change from watching the dumper truck racing!
  4. Looking at the forecast heavy showers from 3 pm I don't think there is a snowballs chance of this match starting. There is at least another half hours work to do despite an announcement of a 2.30 start.
  5. According to Bates in the Leicester Mercury its lack of home track time that's resulting in defeats like on Monday and against Poole. Lack of track time doesn't seem to bother the Lions when they are away (apart from at Rye where there were extenuating circumstances) or visitors to Leicester so what's going on? Also Leicester is one of the few tracks where there are practically no restrictions on when the track can be used so have they had practice sessions or not? King says he has but it doesn't seem to have done him much good.
  6. I thought the home match against Poole ran this one pretty close! A look at the Lion's averages reveals all. Everyone apart from the 2 reserves, has an average lower than the one they started with. King is -4.14, Bjerre -1.97, Nilsson - 1.87 & Riss -0.95 (I have excluded - (no pun intended) Garrity). Ayres (10%) is the only rider to have a lower race win percentage than King (14%)..
  7. So much for strengthening the Lions team then!Who is next for the chop? We could do with a proper no 5 for a start!
  8. There is a post on the club's Facebook page saying that it's still on.
  9. I think it was a bad move by the new promotion to stop the email notifications including postponements because of bad weather.
  10. I suspect it will be on. Latest BBC weather forecast is for some light rain about 7 pm but that's all. Quite windy at the moment. Good drying weather! No worries about late start because of setting sun!
  11. If this is correct I would go for Steve Boxall on Monday. He is only riding in the National League for Plymouth and averaging over 10. He should know the Rye track like the back of his hand having ridden for the Rockets.
  12. I know its early days with the track alterations but in the two meetings I have been to I have not noticed any improvement in the racing. I sometimes wonder if the bad publicity about the track over the years has influenced the riders into believing that there is only one racing line and that, once they have bends 1 & 2 behind them on the first lap, then they just protect the position they have. I cannot remember may riders, other than Craig Cook, being prepared to try out different racing lines during a race. I fully expect Cook to be the new track record holder when next he visits Beaumont Park.
  13. Is Terry Chrabaszcz, the new Lion's track curator, the Guy who was track curator at Coventry? I seem to remember there was some controversy over the way he prepared the track there. Does anyone know his background? There has been nothing on the Lion's website about his appointment. His name has suddenly appeared in the list of Leicester officials.
  14. Sorry Phil - no hard feelings! It was just that I could see in my mind's eye a three piece suite in Lion's colours in our lounge or a themed Speedway Hotel where all the rooms & suites were decorated in various team colours with complimentary dressing gowns that look like a race suit!
  15. Will they be three piece or in a hotel somewhere then?
  16. In view of the number of riders who have hit the air fence coming out of bend four over the years can they put one on the apex of bends 3 & 4 as well?
  17. Does anyone know what this 'slight issue' is?
  18. After getting rid of riders because of their Polish commitments one of their replacements signs for a Polish club! Is this weird or am I missing something!
  19. Posted 12 March 2017 - 09:39 AM by Glyn The track work is not finished. Still a bit to do . Drains need to be finished off, the track surface needs to harden up. We can't get any shale for 6 weeks as the clay pits have a water problem. So we are trying to find an other supplier. But all in all its 90% finished and the airfence is up. A great job and very good day from the volunteers . So with a bit of good weather this week and some shale we are hoping to be ready very soon.
  20. Does this mean you are looking for volunteers with sledge/lump hammers?
