  1. Sad to see the news regarding Bob at GTR media, did a great job at producing DVDs from Owlerton, especially Ricky's Big Day. RIP
  2. Left me slightly with red on face after my post yesterday, the first public statement i've seen on the problems on the new stadium. Least it sounds more positive for Swindon.. But again, only time will tell once the work actually starts
  3. Im not usually a pesimist but got the feeling that Swindon are going to be left red faced with this stadium, just like Reading. Im not local.. But there doesn't seem much positive news about it the new stadium, apart from people involved in the club who seem to be either keeping something from the public about the building of it, or are just papering over the issues and hoping it gets done. Only time will tell.....
  4. Cannot see Paco at 2 being a good move, don't really rate him and would have him back as a reserve if I had to.
  5. Can't knock Len's ambition.. All the best to him and his promotion at Kent. Think he could come up against a few stumbling blocks with an EL & NL side but will be good to see a new team in the EL with a good facilty to host it in.
  6. Can't disagree with that to be fair. Think there could be a lot of ups and downs of teams in every league for next season. Can't see their being 8 EL teams again by the sounds of things. Would be more than happy to stay PL, and hopefully carry on from this season bar the injuries.. Keeping hold of Bates, Garrity and Stead is a must.
  7. I back the play offs 100%. Creates excitement in all forms of media and social media, crowds are nearly always up for play off times, and it keeps people intrested. Imagine Belle Vue's end of season crowds etc if they didn't have a chance of the play offs, can't imagine it would of created the excitement it did. I re-started watching, following and attending speedway in 2012 because of the excitement of the world cup and play offs. I saw good crowds, exciting and competitive racing and a grand final at the end of it. Although they are different counties and in a slightly better place that British Speedway.. The play offs are also done in Sweden, Poland and Denmark (not 100% sure on that) and seem to work. The ideal of a play off shield will just not create enough interest than the play offs do now I don't think....
  8. I'd be quiet happy for Sheffield to have a bash in the Elite! If the FTD stays, could still use Bates at reserve along with maybe Sargeant. Steady would slot in the top 5 and I'm sure the promotion could get in some good names for us to be competitive. Love to see the likes of Holder, Janowski and NKI fly round Owlerton! Can't see it being a bad thing at all, just depends if thats what the promotion want or not just yet.
  9. All I can say is hats off to Peterborough, they deserved the win after the first 3 heats. We started off like a house on fire, then suddenly stopped making the gates, and not managing to get heat wins cost us dearly. Ben Barker was fantastic and I think he would of given Stead a run for his money last night he was that quick! Like a similar post said, Sheffield lacked that big scoring heat leader tonight and looks like the injuries have finally caught up with us, as the team is just not as strong as it was at the start of the season. Ideally Bates was needed down at reserve. Paco seems like he's finding the PL tough and Andre looked like he had bike troubles all night. If you look at individual scores, without Barker, the meeting would of been about level, but an 18 point max is always going to effect the scoreline. Can't be doing with all this rubbish from both promotions, we want a fair hard fought play off quater final with the best team winning. Not who can get each others riders banned, excluded or 'not being at full strength'. The tie is definitely not over, so Panthers fans need to calm down a touch for the moment, Im sure Sheffield aren't finished yet!
  10. Everything was great yesterday - stadium was its usual high standard, good entertainment, good sound system and a great crowd.. Just a shame the racing was a bit dull. Agree that the atmosphere was also very quiet for some reason, seemed like loads of people there but not really cheering for anyone! I personally thought Ulrich deserved to win, was the most consistant all day and certainly looked like it meant a lot to him. Cookie didnt look himself, seemed like he put himself under a lot of pressure and out thought himself for the final. Thought Well's would be a spooler and he certainly was, rode really well and well cheered on by about the only noisy fan base from Worky. Track seemed good, but I thought all the constant tractor racing just left it at a level playing field and once riders were out in front, that seemed to be that. Maybe leaving a better dirt line to develop would of helped the racing. Looking forward to the play offs now.
  11. Another good result for the tigers. Slightly concerned with Paco's form though, hopefully he can kick on at reserve. Bates has done a great job down there this past month and near enough won us meetings with his big scores. Looking forward to the derby on monday down at sunny scunny!
  12. Have to agree with Gemini.. I regularly attend at Sheffield, I know thursday night is speedway night and I look forward to it most of the week. If it becomes fortnightly, then we get a rain off, what will myself and other fans do? Probably find something else that we can do most weeks. What works in other countries doesn't mean it will work here. Some riders prefer Britain because it means more regular meetings, and if the GP boys don't like it then off they go to Poland and Sweden. They'll soon be back when they get dropped or can't get a team place. I'd rather see a team of the same 1-7 most weeks and continue to enjoy a home meeting every thursday with the odd away trip when possible.
  13. From an outsider looking in, I can't imagine that Rye House will be bowing down to Lambert's apparent pay demands at Peterborough, If anything (and no disrespect to the rockets) I'd imagine he would earn more per point at Peterborough. Makes me think that it was something a little more than that as to why he left P'boro.
  14. Great meeting last night, not an all out action meeting but a good win for Sheffield none the less. Like a few other posters, I was quiet surprised how well Sheffield did, especially after hearing Garrity was out injuried too. But credit to the lads, everyone gave it there all and some solid scores all over the board bar Paco. Kurtz was outstanding again, made Cook look ordinary apart from his one race win against Brady. Good to see Klindt with a big score, hopefully can kick him on. Anyone notice Bates give Bellego some grieve after a race though when he seem to cut him up about going over the line on Lap 2? Not quiet needed to a team mate, a quiet word in the pits would of been better than the w**ker sign. Good crowd once again, a good atmosphere, and another good night down at Owlerton!
  15. Looking forward to seeing young Zach ride, been banging in the points for Brum. Do worry for Sheffield tonight though. A good win for Edinburgh last week at Somerset, Cookie flying and rode well at Owlerton all year, Wolbert always rides it well and I think young Riss will put on a big score with how he rides the bigger tracks. Need Bates to carry on his good performaces around Sheffield lately, and need a big score from Bellego or Klindt to go with Kurtz and Garrity if we're to get a win!
  16. Gotta feel for Lanham, struggled last season at Sheffield, started on such a small average and put 2+ points on it and then gets dropped.. Now will find it even harder to get a club now his average is higher! Hope he gets fixed up again, seems a top bloke.
  17. Tuesday's result has obviously triggered something at Somerset, just seen on twitter that Lanham has been released/left this afternoon!
  18. Crazy how Douglas has such injuries after what seemed such a tame crash, to then see Holub smashed into the air fence and get up and walk away. Nothing more than luck (or lack of it in Douglas's case!) Seemed a really strange meeting, obviously we had to hurry through after Ryan's crash, but with the 2 minutes coming on straight after the race, was so disjointed. Pleased we got the 3 points over a very resliant side in Scunthorpe. Bellego was great to watch, especially as he didn't make a start all night! Garrity looks unbeatable around Owlerton at the minute which should stand him in good sted for the PLRC. Kurtz was Kurtz, smooth and super fast.. Looks totally in control at all times, reminds me very much of NKI. Slightly concerned for Sissis, looks quick one race and then ends up a straight behind the others in his next. Hopefully he can get some more consistancy towards the play offs.
  19. Anyone know what happened with Garrity and Jacobson (was it?) last night? seemed to kick off in the pits after race 13 but I didnt see anything on track that would of caused it... Good meeting and a good win for the tigers. Pleased to see our reserves now firing, especially bates who looks a totally different rider to the start of the season. Happy with Klidnt although slightly dissapointed that Andre won't be back anymore this season. Another healthy crowd in too which is always good to see!
  20. Such a sad story for Scunthorpe Speedway. If they could, for the rest of the season they should just chuck free tickets at kids at primary and secondary schools, nothing to lose but that should hopefully get their parents through the doors. If they haven't already, another idea has got to be flooding any local news and papers with the fact it could go under if not enough folks come through the door. Most communities do not want to see local venues close because of finances and sure it would help. Basically, what I'm saying is give it one last massive push from everyone at Scunthorpe to get people through the gate however they can, and do everything in their power to keep them there. (I understand it's not quiet that easy!) I would love to help out and go to Scunthorpe every week, but being a sheffield fan I will always be going there on a thursday, and I cannot afford to go to both every week. Will definitely try go as much as I can for the remander of the season though. All the best to the guys!
  21. I didn't really take much notice of the score last night until after heat 13, and was quiet surprised how far Sheffield were infront. The scoreline certainly didn't reflect the racing for me as it seemed much closer, although Sheffield were always in control. Some great races last night and all the tigers seemed to be on form except Arthur who struggled abit. Bates was very impressive and hopefully he's making that step up. Really good to see Ash Birks flying again, Garrity and Andre unstopable and Bellego gave some all out action racing. Good solid crowd again too and nice little promotion with the air horns for the kids, should do that more often. Can't quiet understand the moaning from diamonds fans though, you only had 3 teams members racing yesterday, so to say your embarassed etc is strange, it basically wasn't your team. Move on and go support your lads on sunday i'd say!
  22. Abit late to this thread but just wanted to comment on the meeting as it was my first visit to scunthorpe speedway. Really enjoyed the meeting itself, took a few races to get going but saw some great action and some good honest racing. Workington certainly carried a few riders but the scunny lads looked as if they knew the way around. Pjiper's double pass in heat 13 was brilliant. Was quiet surprised at the size of the crowd and can see why the promotion need more folks through the doors, seemed only about 300 there. Hopefully they can continue beyond this season as its a great track and don't want to lose the local derbies.
  23. Enjoyed last night's meeting. Strange what a decent crowd and some sun does for our enjoyment. Some good racing at times, but most people seem to enjoy it more when there's a good crowd and atmosphere. Its a no brainer to me for promotors when sky are in town to do what Swindon and Poole have done. Poole get a lot of flack, but over the past week they've conducted themselves very professioally and they can only be applauded for that (no matter how much some people seem to hate them!). Monday's fiasco they just went about their busy quietly and got on with it, no moans about the track or any disputes over anything. And last night, a very professional job infront of the sky camera's. You can tell the team spirit is their and all the riders are pulling in the same direction. Like Pearson said, they are now the team to beat. What does GD mean? You've lost me...
  24. Sheffield 1. Brady Kurtz 2. Ashley Birks 3. David Bellego 4. Jason Garrity 5. Andre Compton © 6. Josh Bates 7. Arthur Sissis Glasgow 1. Nick Morris 2. Dimitre Berge 3. Aaron Summers © 4. Kozza Smith 5. Richard Lawson 6. Victor Palovaara 7. James Sarjeant Should be a good meeting this one. Kurtz is a great guest for Sheffield after his last 2 outings round Owlerton. Bellego back in the Sheffield line up too makes for a much stronger 1-5 line up. Should be a really good, close meeting on paper. Any Glasgow fans making the trip?
