  1. Or in a nutshell, supply an attractive and entertaining product. Or in other words 'Build it and they will come' However you look at it, even success only attracts currant or lapsed fans. What we need is a way to drag the new punter off the street, preferably not of close to pensionable age. I now have to explain what our sport is to many people who ask 'what did you do last weekend' and even to those who know, it is a distant memory. I don't proclaim to know the answer, but more 'hearts and minds' is prob. what is needed. Our sport is seen as 'down market' now and 'working class'. Change the minds in corporate marketing and push our advertising. Do even our own corporate backers really push the club?. I would be lying if I said I had seen our club advertised anywhere. Yes I know there was that brill shot of Richie? hanging by his fingertips to his bike a couple of years back, but what since. We are about to enter the football {spit, gnarl etc.} season again and there goes our advertising window yet again. Has anyone thought of the screens in doctors waiting rooms? or the screens at Newcastle airport? Yes it costs money, but its shoe tread on the terraces we want, not an end to Brough Park as a speedway stadium. Sorry for the rant folks, but my passion for this sport has yet again reared its {poss. slightly drink fuelled} head.
  2. Learning by riding! hmm? now there's a thought. As long as he is wanted, he should learn as many tracks as possible. And this comes from a Diamonds supporter who 1 hope he aint red hot in the fours and 2 can only see good things for a young lad with his attitude, with a view to the international circuit.
  3. Newcastle will take him, cos in our currant state, up s**t creek would suit him very well. Still hope for a fight back before the season's end, but Alamo comes to mind and George aint no Davy Crocket, let alone Daryl playing Jim Bowie, though I believe he may have his knife into someone soon.
  4. Yes, seeing is believing, it took him exactly one heat to fathom out Brough, and after that you just were in awe of a sixteen year old with that much talent to ride in his manner. The next Tai or is he more akin to the raw Darcy?
  5. Up here we call that by an ever so slightly shorter and easier to spell name. The S***s. Cheers for the answer though.
  6. Was Nielsen's absence explained at all at the team presentations, cos he is in a good run recently- cert more than this Connor Mountain managed for us tonight. Mind you, if he came in at short notice, I applaud the lad for stepping up.
  7. Shads, you sure know how to cheer up a losing teams fans. Sounds like yet another bad day at the office for our lads. And if nothing else, it bodes well for team GB.
  8. So beaten by 20 points then. I like to think that the 15 point max. inc. breaking the track record twice from young Lambert was the deciding factor. I would guess that numbers alone don't tell the full story, so we wait and see if we were bad or just out done by a GB star.
  9. No not you and sorry if I was too cryptic in my reply to the real post. Sarcastically accurate as always. Indeed another coup for the club. Still think he will be useful though. Any idea why Nielsen is missing?
  10. Sorry, thought you were meaning his unorthodox and at times erratic riding style. Something which Garrity seems to also often exhibit, but at x10.
  11. If Josh is only a bit of one, does that make Jason the full on real deal?
  12. Any news on if Lambert is fit to ride tonight, or is your much maligned owner? about to pull another rabbit from beneath his flat cap.
  13. Was there for the Tully incident and it was quite obscene to behold from the 2nd bend also known as gravel shower corner. Good view though. A vocal minority only, hopefully. But the promotion know who they are and are seemingly on too happy to encourage their 'football style' support.
  14. But not the grip on their purse strings methinks. Tero not the first rider to have home country commitments, so hopefully our promotion are looking long and hard prior to an idea on how to cope with our injury probs. if Henry and Rose are long term doubts. At least I bloody well hope so!
  15. Hell of a result for the Devils. Bet Somerset are glad SKY weren't in town for this one. Mind you I bet the SKY producers wish they had been.
  16. Yeah, guess he is, hopefully, saving himself for the fours. Maybe Diamonds hopes are on the up for Saturday?
  17. Not sure now if my confidence is higher or not. Thanks for your input-I think
  18. At least Kennett is away on EL duty, so lets hope we can take advantage of guest lambert's unfamiliarity with Rye's track. Wishful thinking I know. If Henry's injury is as bad as it seems, I hope we are looking to re-declare some time soon, cos R/R casts a strain on riders and machinery without the risk of losing another rider mid match.
  19. Always thought it was Shads, Guess it struck a nerve with the pseudo Hammers supporter though-ouch!
  20. Please do not become the next Newport. Your track could/has become a regular on the international circuit for hells' sake. They love it, we love it{note Diamonds supporter} even SKY justifiably love it. Too many grounds are under threat from developers. You at least are safe from that, but the noise police will stop you from ever doing another lap if you close. Don't let it happen. I was at Newport's last meeting up at Ashfield and I don't want be a witness to Berwick's demise also.
  21. How many threads for the same meeting do we need. Dantodan opened one several hours previous. On topic, I doubt that Lambert will let you down, bugger it.
  22. As a neutral { Diamonds fan} the only downsides were the injuries incurred to both sides, though losing Robbo in his first ride was esp. a downer. A superb example of two teams fighting in the face of adversity. Garritty is a talent to be sure, and while cert. erratic, I would pay good money to watch him on a regular basis. If you want{even need} to learn a technical track, then Brough Park fans would embrace you with both arms. Good luck on a long career, wherever it takes you. Seen you live and on the telly, and still not sure which is best. Clearly, at short range, from the terrace it is spectacular, but on the box we see it again and again. I guess the recent problem for all televised sports. Exposure verses crowd levels.
  23. Based on the Eddie Kennett I saw on SKY tonight, I think I and the Brough Park faithful missed a treat thanks to the weather. Points would have been very much there for the taking methinks?
  24. Minus the point, { at least } which was very likely on offer if your lads could have fathomed our track quickly enough. If at Berwick this morning you made damn quick time home, assuming you ain't on line at a Premier Inn en-route.
