  1. I suspect that few fans who have seen him live would turn up their nose at the chance of seeing him as a home rider for a season, cert. not me. But for those BSPA rule benders {sorry guardians of the sport?} We would have had him at Brough in 2014. But hey, the rules must come become furthering the career of the next Woffy or surely the World, as we know it would end. Well probably, at least, anyway!
  2. More for devilment than anything else, just seen on another thread, that Leigh Lanham appears to now be available? A viable short or even rest of season Diamonds import perhaps? Reaching the end of his career prob. but maybe a change of scenery may work ala. Lemmo or more recently Chris Mills perchance?
  3. Sorry, my post was not a dig at the currant team or a hint to 'spend, spend, spend'. Merely an answer as to why big crowds came regularly to one sided encounters. If the frugal team building of 2015 allows us to run on in following years, then the management have it right IMO. It would have only taken a few less injuries to have our team far higher up the table, with a couple of the riders joining Stevie as an 8 pointer.
  4. Pretty much as most 2010 meetings were when Kenni Larsen et al basically destroyed most opposition, on our way to the treble. Okay, the crowd numbers clearly lower than the Owen era, but the reason for turn out is still valid. Namely a winning team. I would bet that Armadale and Ashfield draw their currant sizable crowds for much the same reason.
  5. Look, for a start, I have only perused this thread and may have missed a prior allusion to this idea, but here goes. What about a system where the currant top ranked reserves, your Garritty, Newman, Kerr etc. are pooled and picked by the EL clubs for a main body place. We continue to have one 'protected' Brit qualified rider at reserve, but open up the remaining birth to any existing rider, regardless of nationality. To balance the change a second main body rider should also be eligible for GB call up only. The promoters still get a cost reduction to team building costs, but the very good crop of PL riders are given back their chance to shine at EL level. I know that as an PL fan my grasp of EL politics is limited, but truly, the EL is missing some damn good riders purely because they are deemed too good for FTS yet not good enough or born in the right place to be considered. Are there enough riders around these days to stifle any of them. I am all in favour of a system to progress Brit riders but saying two or three of the seven must qualify as GB should be enough ala. Sweden or Poland. Where they ride should be less important than allowing them to shine.
  6. Yeah, Bellego was a very thankful disappointment, hope he aint saving his best for the Bandits shirt come next weekend.
  7. A good night of racing, a canny crowd turn out, the return of 'twin power' to Brough. three very welcome points in the bag, a message from Lewey's wife and first and foremost, no injuries to either side. All in all, a very pleasing night. The forum though has been very quiet. Shame that so many on here only post to have a gripe. Had we lost, the teams' detractors would have been out in force to be sure.
  8. Good point that RD, noted in the programme that George said he had some guesting to sort out. Guess that means that the team as now will finish the season, with a poss. return for Lewis Rose being the only likely change. Given his outing tonight Tero is going to be worth those kevlars, assuming he can ride though the pain of his rib injuries?
  9. The 'F' factor was being used to attract fans back in the Bruce Penhall {pennell} day WK. If the speedway 'groupie' factor can be exploited, why not. Some of the 'whoops' heard from female voices at Brough are testimony to it too.
  10. A pretty good meeting with one or two passes and repasses. Ricky Wells in good form as usual round Brough. Esp. good was the race between Richie and Ricky to deny the latter his tactical win. I think it would have been closer with Howarth racing- guess he may have got more than the 4 r/r achieved. Bellego was very poor, unusual here, hope he is equally inept next week for Berwick. Our new 'flying Finn' Tero looks to be very good value, with a very decent 7+2 return from reserve. Only after his fouth ride did Roy tell us he is nursing bruised and poss. cracked ribs from his Scunny tumble. Niesen looks to now be showing the form which brought him a second season here. For a change Newcastle looked like passing people and were trying. Thankfully Ludde's self made introduction to the fourth bend air fence had him up and joking with Roy very quickly. A stronger Worky side might have run us closer and no doubt their fans will be on here soon bemoaning the ill-luck which has followed them all season. All I can say to that, is welcome to the club.
  11. Good to hear this. Maybe the score was unjustly flattering. I wonder if Richie would have faired better than R/R had Somerset not been riding?
  12. Another bad day at the office for our lads. Ludde apart, there were few bright moments it seems. The late fight back just that- too late. If Tero and Richard had scored even half what each scored last night, the scores would have been substantially closer methinks. Most importantly though all came through relatively unscathed. Sounds like Tero had a lucky escape flying over the fence too. If this does not start Roy introducing him as 'the Flying Finn', I will be surprised and relieved.
  13. Very much not good for the lad. I have to admit that as a Diamonds supporter, I was checking the thread to see if Douglas was available to ride against us tonight, hoping perchance for a very minor injury enough to hinder you tonight. To find that he has suffered a season ending injury sickens me for even hoping he would not be available tonight. Truthfully, get well soon Ryan Douglas.
  14. Based on his currant form and his liking for our place, local popularity etc. this could be a real bonus to our chances if confirmed?
  15. Blimey Dantodan, we aint raced Scunny yet. Suppose its too early for guest info yet by any chance?
  16. Both Tero and Richard Hall scored heavily in guest appearances tonight with both in double figures, that allied with the withdrawal of Ryan Douglas with a leg injury may give the lads a glimmer down at Scunny . Fingers crossed.
  17. Still hopeful for a point at least. Tero is ex. Scunny , so maybe still knows the fastest way round their track and can give the rest of the guys some tips. With luck we get the gating version of Richard Hall and a decent showing from the lads. Ride with your hearts lads.
  18. Thanks for the reply, regrettably all the more relevant now.
  19. Been better if he had done it last year in our colours though.
  20. Dantodan, when I first read your post earlier, I thought, no, this is just too early. But now I think you are right about Lewey wanting the team to ride and hopefully win. This sport will always, regrettably, have injuries, thankfully not always as severe as that witnessed on Sunday. But the sport continues and Kings Lynn rode tonight, so of course Newcastle will ride on Friday at Scunthorpe. The worst injury I have seen first hand was that suffered by Kyle Newman and terrible though it was, he now still rides very well at Plymouth and indeed last night at Belle Vue against our current no 1 Stevie. What we all want is for Lewis to be able to recover and do the same. The sport continues so this forum must continue to debate the 'why and why fors' as always.
  21. As a supporter of the team on the receiving end of his Rye House guest booking, can I say all who attended applauded his riding skill and his total commitment. Few could believe the tenacity he showed even in heat 15, by which time the meeting was lost to us. True, it seems strange that he turned out if not 100% fit, but did he not want to let Len Silver down? Young as he, saying no to a meeting is prob. new in his vocabulary. Did he overstretch himself on Thursday, seemingly yes. As to his offhand comments- how many seventeen year olds do you know who are truly eloquent. Some studious ones perhaps, but doubtful any who are basically petrol heads who have grown up in the cut and thrust of speedway.
  22. Plymouth showing what can be done to a budget and with luck in picking the right riders who have more than held their own.
