  1. the reason I put john Louis was due to his achievement afer starting out at 28 yrs of age, blrc, british champ, world no3, 2x world champ (pairs and team), think that would suffice his position in this section.......
  2. despite certain people talking up a manages job, lets face it, its a piece of cake..its basic, im sure anyone doing a job for zilch needs to be Einstein!!
  3. yeah, remember british final semi line ups, what depth.....barry Thomas, another remembered
  4. interesting clip if can get you tube john davis documentary 1982 anybody know if a club had more than 5 world champions, b.vue/cradley I can recall, don't think that's bettered?
  5. this subject really makes 2014 look poor
  6. andy smith forgotten and 3x brit champ!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. davis, betts, ashby, kilby, Davey, jolly, Gresham, reg Wilson, dave Morton, turner, eriksen, pusey, les Collins, phil Collins neil Collins, none of these a top 10 rider, but shows the quality of line ups in strength of top flight speedway in them days..
  8. think I liked him cos he was a character, remember him getting jeered a few times, which livens up things, his style was a bit different, but no, never a top 10 rider..his pink in his leathers stood out a bit, but thinking of todays british finals, he highlights the strength in depth England had
  9. why are the in favour brigade soo over the top in there views?..i don't see this as any big deal, but say, if the riders want it let them have it.. if a young fan follow there rider, theyl have plenty options with "brand number"...1 in England 507 gp 3 in Poland etc etc speedway don't have the fan base for this kind of thing, but as I say, let the riders have it, and if they get more money, fair play!
  10. yep, know what you mean, I just loved watching him and the banter..but yeah, agree he wasn't a top 10 rider
  11. shane parker? you must of been deprived up in Glasgow!
  12. this particular comp is a million miles from reality on all counts
  13. totally agree. and as I said, good luck to the riders....
  14. im with Jacques on this one...yes, he was a british world champ....22 yrs ago..hes already had a testimonial, and if fans have no connection with him one way or the other, whats wrong with that? and ok, if the people who say hes English, and been a world champ, then YOU go along and pack the terraces for him... its called freedom of choice, and competition..now lets see how romoters can promote, instead of just giving in cos another match is going on
  15. mauger, Louis, olsen, michanek, p.collins, Jessup, lee, briggs, betts, davis.......amount of brits in these lists!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. if this makes the riders more income, it will be good for them, but personally, I don't think the sport is big enough, and not yet perceived by the mainstream as credible.... whilst at Cardiff once a yr, a few caps/tshirts may be sold, on a normal league fixture, id doubt on average, no more than 2 items would be purchased on a weekly basis...... id suggest, the powers that be, need to start attracting at least a half page coverage on a regular basis in daily newspapers, not just gp weekends, and until speedway results appear on end of news, id suggest this sport is a long long way for this sort of move.. but as I said at start, if this creates finance for the riders, then who could complain?
  17. those cards "may" work at wolves where crowd foced together, but most tracks it certainly wouldn't work, and when 5.1s are won in a strung out race, it also has a different effect in celebrations
  18. I don't have an opinion on him personally, I certainly have an opinion on his capabilities (which im entitled to have).. anybody is welcome to give anyone any amount of money, its there freedom of choice, to me, it looks like begging, whats to stop him earning in 5 months work? whats stoping him selling stuff?etc?....the perception doesn't look good to me, and if I (which im not) was going to invest in a rider, it would be someone with a winning potential
  19. a 30 yr old who never shown half tai"s ability, a average in watered down elite, that wouldn't of even managed to be a ht leader in the past......sell your posh car, get a loan, get a sponsor, work during the winter, dontbgo holding out your hand!!
  20. I know its not the same, its just harris has been in the game a while now, the gp"s "appear" to be quite professional, where riders have big teams and sponsors around, these are riders that are paid far better than other riders, and earn all around the world.. giving harris plenty of cash "may" help him scrape in 8th, but does anybody see him reaching the summit? hes had loads of opportunities, and I don't believe its money that's stopped him competing.. I once gave emmerson fairweather £10 at peterboro (not much) but he was jeered by his own fans, he got 3pts, but imo, those 3pts were just as important as anybody else"s..i also have sponsored another rider, and the minute I stopped, I never even got a thank you. but if anybody wants to hand harris cash, do so, its your money, your choice, but it just looks tacky to me all this
  21. any chance someone could help me pay rest of my mortgage? only 26k......if you want to donate, please do..if you don't, fair enough....come on bagpuss?
