  1. do tracks get a special bus service? just for speedway fans?....i suppose crowd wise, the polish league does very well with strong line ups..as soon as you get a warm bank holiday afternoon, crowds flock in, so what makes a week night so different?..some people say its a school night, but that excuse doesnt work with football?
  2. i personaly preferred individual leathers, i liked seeing davis, louis, mauger etc stand out in there leathers.i believe there was far more team riding in yrs gone by, so identifying there partner was never a problem..i do believe we need new fans, but not to the extent of ignoring the older fans..guest riding and doubling up, is a big no, no for me..to attract the new support, you need less farcical rules, you need a team, to feel like YOUR team, and not sharing ridrs around, and seeing them 1 week for you, then the next week against you..i also feel, regarding play off, if you 5th and 6th mid season, fine, but if your sitting 12pts clear at the top, how do you motivate your fans to an away game, knowing your just waiting for the real stuff (play offs) to kick off in a few weeks time?..also notice lack of team stickers on cars these days....i recall following a swindon sticker 1 day, before sat navs, to an away game, unluckily for me, that driver wasnt going to speedway that day and i got well lost!!!
  3. still think world pairs could be staged in world cup week, a festival of top class speedway
  4. john harry, ted spittles, trevor jones, sandor levai, olle nygren, ron bagley, all folk law legends! i still have the newspape cutiing of the day after john louis returned to ipswich with halifax..i sat in the old back straight stand and watched tim hunt fence him on the home straight..sat there boo-ing a home rider co"s i WAS a hughe john louis fan. was great seeing him bt john cook in ht 4.....the headlines read "tiger back to foxhall and trouble"..only read that the other day!
  5. think sigalos was great, but not sure you could put him above ricko?
  6. oh i see.....thats tough as ricko is greatest rider,so has to be him surely?...but witches WERE blessed with greats, yrs ago
  7. yeah, i thought that!..how can donkey, gollob and ricko be named?
  8. if anybody in the coventry area want a fund raising night, for future funds, i can supply a hall for an evenings entertainment and money raising around june/july time, it could alsobe an awareness night with local press involved..if enough support, i can arrange this, if nnot then i have at least offered
  9. i would love to see a john berry statue myself..they rare to say the least in speedway circles..chris was clearly a decent rider, you couldnt argue with that, but on the promotion side (as yet early) he is way way behind on that score..those posts that knocked mr shears, for me, horrid times, but at least it was top flight, for me,thats where witches should be today, tomorrow and as long as foxhall exists
  10. absolutely spot on. not sure you can mention c.louis in the same sentence as john berry
  11. i recall him doin around 12 consecutive races without scoring...at that time i had more points on my driving licence!!
  12. during world cup week, theres 3 empty days, would it not be a money spinner to host a world pairs final during that week to keep the interest going?
  13. i personally think this year will tell us all a lot..especially cardiff, as i think crowd figures there has stagnated, so if having a brit world champ cant break the record figure, not much else will.. as far as sponsors go with bsi/tv coverage, the amazing sponsors with terrestial tv, which springs to mind, was the daily mirror.. unless speedway can consistantly make larger columns in newspapers, or get featured at the end of news items, i dont see this sport progressing too far
  14. id disagree, just my opinion. id say world of sport would of been around the 3-4 million mark..we all know sky only had around 180k watch..terrestial tv is far wider reaching, and lets face it, sky sports are no mugs, they dropped it for a reason
  15. tv audience bigger than world of sport?......very very much doubtful
  16. did someone say clouting? id say andy hines, whilst anders michaanek was probably the biggest letdown
  17. a bit part rider maybe, but his connections still intact i may add
  18. i cant believe, for just this once, not everyone is on the same wave length!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. the best way to get publicity throughout the season is to get brandon rammed solid with fans, and prove to the local press/mp/councillors etc, what they could be about to lose
  20. i personally thought it may be both, but hey, just offered
  21. if anybody think we should get ahead of the game, and not wait around a yr or two, im up for starting a fund raising scheme to help the future of coventry speedway..im based in ipswich but would certainly be up for driving up to help out events..i have a few contacts who could help out with certain activities,if we can muster up support, im happy to go for it
