The first World Final not to be held at Wembley, was held at Malmo in 1961 with a crowd of 25,000 - and home star Ove Fundin won. -

Thanks for the details, much appreciated! -
Any information about this weekends junior internationals at Malmo on Saturday and Gothenburg on Sunday would be much appreciated! Thanks
-
Both internationals, at Pardubice and Mseno, were rained off

Strong Polish teams! I think the Czechs will do well to win one of these matches - should be good speedway though.
-
These are supposedly Under-21 meetings, but judging by two matches held in Poland in May, they could well be under-18. Pardubice meeting is scheduled for a 7pm start on Friday. Meeting at Mseno is at 10am Saturday morning. I'll be at both matches (if the Czech beer dosen't get the better of me)

I should think the vast majority will agree, but it dosen't look like it will happen while Possletwit and co are in charge - still, they've only got the rights until 2020! Meanwhile the GP will have less and less credibility, and become more and more like a touring circus. I blame the FIM for selling off speedway's crown jewels.

Who knows what to believe??!! Old editions of the FIM magazine at the FIM site says: 2001 = 32,000 2002 = 42,000 2003 = 40,000 2004 = 35,251 -
World Cup Qualifiers This Week
TwoMinuteWarning replied to Hazzman's topic in International World of Speedway
Not really. Seemed sensible to call a halt after 3 rounds (15 heats) when all riders had the same number of scheduled rides. Still, I'm sure the FIM have a rule to cover it (well, maybe) Confirmation is at the FIM website: http://www.fim.ch/EN/default.asp?item=16&o...503main2005.htm -
World Cup Qualifiers This Week
TwoMinuteWarning replied to Hazzman's topic in International World of Speedway
Result of the Terenzano qualifier has been amended by the FIM to include 16 heats, not 15, so result is now: Germany 33 Slovenia 23 Hungary 22 Italy 18. Scorers are at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/speedway2/wtc05.htm Brian -

Many thanks for all the details, iris123. Much appreciated. -
Does anyone know if the planned Denmark - Sweden under-21 tests at Grinsted and Holstebro today and tomorrow are still taking place?

Just to say that Buddy (along with Ken Middleditch!) features on a new Website devoted to Hastings Speedway at http://hastingssaxons.doverathleticvideo.com/index.htm And a very well-researched site it is too.
-
And, Neil, your Dad was a teammate of Buddy in this country at Hastings in 1948 and 1949

Sad news from South Africa that Buddy (Arthur John) Fuller, who did so much for the sport in that country over many years, passed away peacefully in his sleep early this morning, 9 May 2005. He was 89. There will be a Memorial Service in Johannesburg on Wed.11 May. He rode in the UK in the late 1940s & early 1950s for, amongst others, Hastings. Then, for two decades, he became "Mr. South African Speedway" as both rider and promoter. Condolences to his family and friends.

Austria V Slovenia V Croatia
TwoMinuteWarning replied to TwoMinuteWarning's topic in International World of Speedway
I agree, Greg. It would be a boost for the sport in Croatia too. Jurica's father, Zvonko, has built the country's 2nd speedway track at Gorican, it opens soon. Pic of Jurica here -

OK Jesper, full details are on the Slovenian Forum here -
The first match of this series, at Lendava in Slovenia on Sunday, resulted in a surprise win for minnows Croatia. Their star was 16-year old Jurica Pavlic (son of a former Yugoslavian Champion), who really looks to be a massive talent. Have any UK clubs spoken to him yet? Croatia 37 (Jurica Pavlic 17, Zeljko Feher 12) Slovenia I 31 (Jernej Kolenko 14, Ales Kraljic 13) Slovenia II 30 (Izak Santej 17, Denis Stojs 12) Austria I 14 Austria II 5 The second of the scheduled 5 round series is at Ljubljana on May 15.

Wimbledon Meetings, April 1985
TwoMinuteWarning replied to NorthamptonKnights's topic in Years Gone By
Yes, there was. But it wasn't in April. All that recent publicity was premature, a case of the newspapers not letting the facts get in the way of a good story (as usual!) The Heysel Stadium disaster was on May 29 1985. On that night, Dons beat Milton Keynes 47-31 at Plough Lane. I was there as well. Nothing wrong with your memory! -
For anyone with an interest in the very early days of Dirt Track Racing, can I recommend some well-written and excellently researched articles by Ross Garrigan. Plus, the best biography of Billy Sanders. And it's all here

Falcace, the 1973 Daily Mirror Final, including the controversial run-off between Collins and Michanek (I've watched it 20 times, still don't know whose fault it was!) was one of several ITV World of Sport productions made available on video by Tony Jackson in the 90's - I believe he bought the rights to these programmes(?) Whether they are still available from him I don't know - I bought mine on eBay.
