  1. I've been told that these meetings have been rearranged for 12.8 - Pardubice 13.8 - Mseno Can anyone confirm this? Thanks
  2. With reigning champion Kyle Legault in the UK, Nick Fafard became the new Canadian Champion at Welland, Ontario on Saturday night. For a full report, go to http://www.speedwaybikes.com/csra2005/main.html and click on NEWS
  3. Somebody has asked me off-list where I got the information about the Ice Racing. It came from the latest edition of the FIM magazine at the FIM website: Track Racing Commission (CCP) Track Racing: the Management Council has agreed to give Benfield Sports International (BSI) the right to organise as from 2006 the Individual and Team Ice Racing World Championships, as mentioned in their option. Long Track World Championship: the last Final in 2005 will be held in New Zealand again. Some European organisers find unfair if New Zealand always has the last Final of the sea- son, which brings more spectators. On the other hand, to keep New Zealand on the calendar does not give much alternative, as for climatic reasons it is only possible to race there from November to March.
  4. Top 8 from each semi go to the Final at Togliatti on Sept 11 Note: October = Oktyabrsky 20.7.05 Salavat Sergey Darkin Tolyatti 13 Oleg Kurguskin Tolyatti 13 Simeon Vlasov October 12 Vladimir Dubinin Tolyatti 10 Sergey Eroshin Vladivostok 9 Albert Tibeev Salavat 9 Alexey Harchenko Vladivostok 9 Roman Ivanov Tolyatti 8+3 Grigory Harchenko Vladivostok 8+i Marat Gatijatov October 7 Talgat Galeyev October 6 Maxim Karajchentsev Vladivostok 6 Lenar Nigmatzjanov Balakovo 3 Igor Kononov Sterlitamak 2 Alexey Poptsov Vladivostok 2 Vitaly Matveev Balakovo 1 Ilya Ruzanov Sterlitamak 1 Vladimir Chapalo Sterlitamak 0 21.7.05 Oktyabrsky Renat Gafurov October 15 Maxim Kalimullin October 13 Denis Gizatullin October 13 Edward Shajhullin October 13 Emil Sajfutdinov Tolyatti 10 Daniel Ivanov Tolyatti 8 Radik Tibeev Salavat 8 Evgenie Gomozov Tolyatti 7+3 Cyril Filinov Balakovo 7+2 Ruslan Gatijatov October 6 Alexander Kosolapkin Balakovo 6 Alexander Kazionnyj Vladivostok 5 Evgenie Drevjatnikov Vladivostok 4 Arthur Nafikov October 2 Alexey Guzaev Balakovo 1 Victor Hodzitsky Vladivostok 1 Leonty Starostin October 1 Evgenie Mihajlov Vladivostok 0 Can someone tell me what country Roman Povazhny is riding for now? He didn't ride in this Championship, nor for Russia in the World Cup qualifier.
  5. I think they are, these days. But I remember seeing Ice Racing on natural tracks in Russia and Italy, on Eurosport in the 90s - now THAT was SPECTACULAR!
  6. Not sure if it has been reported before, but BSI are to stage the World Individual and Team Ice-Racing Championships from 2006. Ever get the impression that the FIM want to offload anything to do with track racing?
  7. The first World Final not to be held at Wembley, was held at Malmo in 1961 with a crowd of 25,000 - and home star Ove Fundin won.
  8. Any information about this weekends junior internationals at Malmo on Saturday and Gothenburg on Sunday would be much appreciated! Thanks
  9. Both internationals, at Pardubice and Mseno, were rained off
  10. I think many of your questions will be answered by going to Kevin Meynell's excellent Speedway FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) at http://www.speedway-faq.org/
  11. Strong Polish teams! I think the Czechs will do well to win one of these matches - should be good speedway though.
  12. These are supposedly Under-21 meetings, but judging by two matches held in Poland in May, they could well be under-18. Pardubice meeting is scheduled for a 7pm start on Friday. Meeting at Mseno is at 10am Saturday morning. I'll be at both matches (if the Czech beer dosen't get the better of me)
  13. I should think the vast majority will agree, but it dosen't look like it will happen while Possletwit and co are in charge - still, they've only got the rights until 2020! Meanwhile the GP will have less and less credibility, and become more and more like a touring circus. I blame the FIM for selling off speedway's crown jewels.
  14. Who knows what to believe??!! Old editions of the FIM magazine at the FIM site says: 2001 = 32,000 2002 = 42,000 2003 = 40,000 2004 = 35,251
  15. Not really. Seemed sensible to call a halt after 3 rounds (15 heats) when all riders had the same number of scheduled rides. Still, I'm sure the FIM have a rule to cover it (well, maybe) Confirmation is at the FIM website: http://www.fim.ch/EN/default.asp?item=16&o...503main2005.htm
  16. Result of the Terenzano qualifier has been amended by the FIM to include 16 heats, not 15, so result is now: Germany 33 Slovenia 23 Hungary 22 Italy 18. Scorers are at: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/speedway2/wtc05.htm Brian
  17. Many thanks for all the details, iris123. Much appreciated.
  18. OK, thanks. I assume that the result stands, even though only just over half the heats were run? Congratulations to Germany, I thought Slovenia may just beat them.
  19. Thanks tomaz, but the results seemed to stop after heat 15 - what happened?
  20. Does anyone know if the planned Denmark - Sweden under-21 tests at Grinsted and Holstebro today and tomorrow are still taking place?
  21. Just to say that Buddy (along with Ken Middleditch!) features on a new Website devoted to Hastings Speedway at http://hastingssaxons.doverathleticvideo.com/index.htm And a very well-researched site it is too.
  22. And, Neil, your Dad was a teammate of Buddy in this country at Hastings in 1948 and 1949
  23. Sad news from South Africa that Buddy (Arthur John) Fuller, who did so much for the sport in that country over many years, passed away peacefully in his sleep early this morning, 9 May 2005. He was 89. There will be a Memorial Service in Johannesburg on Wed.11 May. He rode in the UK in the late 1940s & early 1950s for, amongst others, Hastings. Then, for two decades, he became "Mr. South African Speedway" as both rider and promoter. Condolences to his family and friends.
