  18. I consider Phil to be one of the greatest speedway riders, I first saw him ride for Southampton in the late 40's, I was a schoolboy then and saved my earnings from delivering newspapers to go to speedway. Because of his daredevil leg-trailing style he often fell in his first race, but always got up and had a go. The Southampton track suited his style, wide and fast.
  19. Cable users should be able to watch the GP at 11pm on Sky Sports 2 that means you can drown your sorrows in the pub first, or support your local track if they have a match.
  20. During the 50's some Americans were based at Shelbourne Park, Dublin and if I remember correctly, they raced on Sundays. I think that Ronnie Moore was Irish Champion around 1951. At other times Speedway was tried at Chapelizod and Belfast, I wonder if the time is right to try again ?
  21. I just want to say thankyou to # Name Removed # for giving us news of the veterans of speedway. I remember the time when he had his first ride on the grass at Corhampton, I thought he looked a frightened young man who wanted to impress his father Bert. Its nice to know he's back with the bikes and now matured. You don't know me David but we had a mutual friend who was your mechanic that day, Reg Rawlins, the late Ernie Rawlins brother.
